About: I have worked at a doggy daycare for almost 3 years, Cool Runners Doggy Daycare, and I have been taking care of dogs since l was little. My family has had four dogs throughout my life-two big and two smallâso I have experience with dogs of all sizes. I love caring for them and making sure they feel safe, happy, and loved. I have worked with all different ages of dog to! from puppy stages to 18 years old! i take care of my own 4 dogs everyday, and i have a Chihuahua (5 yo), shorthaired dachshund (1 yo), great Pyrenees (7 yo), and a lab (13 yo)! i also work 4-5 times a week at my doggy daycare called Cool Runners Doggy Daycare! I have experience caring for pets because my family has four dogs. I know how to safely put dogs in their crates, let them outside for potty breaks, and take them on walks. At home, we have a fenced-in yard, but l am also comfortable taking your dog outside on a leash for walks or bathroom breaks. My goal is to make sure every pet feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for while you're away.
âJaime was by far the best house/ dog sitter we have used since we started using Rover more than 5 years ago for our two dogs! I knew as soon as I met her that she was caring, responsible and perfect for the job, and the dogs loved her too! It was so nice not having to worry about our âboysâ and enjoying our vacation stress free. It was very evident from pictures sent that she loved the dogs and they were in good hands. Coming home to a clean house after our vacation was another plus. I will definitely use Jaime again for upcoming vacations in the future!â

âBrandy did a great job caring for our dogs. She stayed with them the entire time we were away, which gave us real peace of mind. It was clear they were comfortable and well cared for when we returned. We truly appreciated her reliability and dedication.â

About: Iâm an RVT that is wanting to help look after your little kiddos! Iâve been in the vet field for almost 9 years, Iâm good with all types of pets, especially dogs and cats Iâm currently switching to a new job so I have plenty of availability at the moment. I can stay overnights if needed or just stop by during the day. Iâm able to walk your dogs and play with cats. Im very capable of giving medications if needed or just hanging out with your little kiddos
âLatasha was wonderful! From the beginning she came for a meet and greet and got down on the floor with my Percy! She asked very specific questions about his routine and wanted to ensure he was as comfortable as possible. During her stay she was very interactive with Percy. Took him on outings and walks and made sure he had plenty of play time and attention. On a night of a storm she let Percy sleep in bed with her to help comfort him!! Any concerns she had she messaged me immediately. She was great about sending updates and pictures to make sure I felt he was in good hands which definitely decreased my worries. Latasha treated my home with respect and left my home just as she found it. She even helped me with my newly planted garden to ensure it stayed watered while I was away. I will definitely use Latasha again in the future.â

About: Iâve been caring for cats for many years and have experience pet sitting for both cats and dogs for friends and family. While my background is stronger with cats, Iâm comfortable handling the day-to-day needs of dogs as well, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and maintaining routines. I know how important consistency is for pets, especially when their owners are away, so I make it a priority to carefully follow any instructions regarding feeding, medications, dietary restrictions, routines, or other special care needs. Because I work remotely, Iâm also able to spend much more time at home with pets than many sitters can, which means more company, attention, and supervision throughout the day. I currently work remotely on a typical MondayâFriday daytime schedule and am able to work from anywhere within the state, which means I can comfortably set up my work-from-home station while house and pet sitting. This allows me to be much more present and attentive throughout the day compared to sitters who may be away for long periods of time. My work is also fairly flexible, allowing me to adjust meetings and tasks as needed to help accommodate feeding schedules, walks, potty breaks, medications, and other routine care. Weekends are typically very open for me as well, giving me even more flexibility and availability for your petsâ needs. I currently have two cats of my own: Draco, an 11-year-old part Manx, and Loki, a 6-year-old black American Shorthair. Iâve had both of them since they were kittens, and caring for them has given me years of hands-on experience with maintaining routines, monitoring health, and creating a calm, safe environment for pets. Draco previously needed some extra attention with his weight and diet, and through a consistent feeding routine and focused care, he was able to lose over 10 pounds and maintain a much healthier lifestyle. That experience reinforced for me how important consistency, patience, and closely following care instructions can be for pets. Loki is a rescue and can be a little shy at first, so I also understand the importance of giving pets time to adjust, respecting their comfort levels, and helping anxious pets feel safe and secure. When caring for pets in a clientâs home, I aim to maintain their normal routines as closely as possible so they feel comfortable, relaxed, and well cared for while their owners are away.
âLiterally the best ever!!! I could not recommend someone more than her! She took such great care of our neurotic dog and made Bailey feel at home and so comfortable, it was like we were never even gone!â

About: All my life, I have bonded with both dogs and cats, and animals in general. I have been told that I have an ability to connect with any animal effortlessly. While I have been dog-sitting for friends, family, and others for about four years, I also have worked as a Caregiver at CARE STL, an animal shelter in St. Louis. During my time at CARE, I fed, walked, played, and formed connections with over 100 dogs, as well as cats and other animals. After that, I started working as a server/bartender at Bar-K, to make money while still working in an animal-friendly environment. Since then, I have been a reliable, trusted, and consistent dog-sitter for many clients. The safety and care of any animal is always my biggest priority, and I promise that I will not disappoint! I currently am not working, as I have just recently graduated from Saint Louis University. In other words, I am more often than not, completely available to work anytime on Weekdays and Weekends. However, on June 1st, I will be starting an internship that requires 20 hours a week but my schedule is extremely flexible, as the internship is willing to adjust to whatever schedules I have. Because of my flexible availability, I am able to spend as much time with your fur baby as you would like me to. Whether it be cuddling, playing, or going outside, I will provide all of my attention and services to the care of your animals.
âMelanie was so great with our dogs. We typically only leave the dogs with family, but stepped out of our comfort zone by hiring Melanie and she was phenomenal! She sent several photos and sent us texts about the characteristics of our dogs personalities that one would only know if they were really playing and getting to know each dog. We were able to enjoy our vacation knowing our dogs were well taken care of.â

âMason was wonderful! He came over for a pre-meet and was very polite and was happy to do what we asked. BUT he went above and beyond walking the dogs, playing bubbles. Great communicator. Sent pics and videos. Had a small emergency and he handled it beautifully! So happy we found him!!!!â

About: Iâve taken care of my dogs in my home since I was around 13. A lot of neighbors rely on me to watch their dogs or even stay the night. I have raised many puppies throughout my life. I am currently working part-time. I work Monday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I also am in school from 8-2:40 throughout the week. Other than that I am available a lot!! I take my dogs out on leashes. If there is a fence able for the dogs to go out, I will let them out but stay out there with them.

âStephanie was great! She watched our six dogs for the day when we were out town. She sent pictures through out the day, made sure they all ate dinner and had plenty of potty breaks. We definitely will use Stephanie again. The dogs were all fine when we got home and Iâm sure had a good time. She was a lifesaver!â

About: Iâve had a dog since I was 9 years old. Iâve been taking care of them ever since! I have been watching other dogs since I was a teenager. Iâve pet sat a good variety of dogs, from border collies to labs and teeny little Pomeranian mixes! I have a good deal of availability during the summer, so my schedule is very flexible! I teach private lessons on Monday and Friday afternoons for a couple hours, otherwise my other jobs provide me a good deal of flexibility, so that I can pet set as much as possible! At my home our dogs have an electric fence, and have been properly trained not to cross the invisible line. I have also lived in areas where dogs are fenced in, and even with neither type of fence and just a long chain attached to the ground. Regardless I will take care of your pet regardless of the outdoor situation. I am pretty physically fit, so I can carve out some good time to take them on walks, long or short! I follow your instructions to the T when it comes to specific needs and potty/bed times. I will come to you and do whatever needs to be done to make sure your pet is happy and safe!
About: Iâm an attentive, deeply responsible pet sitter with a warm heart and a professional approach to care. Iâve been pet sitting since I was a child, loving and caring for dogs, cats, reptiles, and more. Iâm always open to learning and training because your peace of mind matters to me. My background in a detail-driven healthcare field means I value precision, safety, and following care plans exactly as written. Whether your pet has two legs, four, or more, I treat them with the same care and respect I give to my own family members. Iâll treat your pet like my own and give them the attention, comfort, and best care they deserve. Pet care fits naturally into my weekly routine because Iâm currently working part-time and have flexibility over my schedule. I can build in extra time for daily walks, feeding, play sessions, and care plan tasks without rushing. This means Iâm able to stay consistent, be present with your pet, and adjust my day as needed to match their routine and comfort. I care for pets in your home since my place doesnât allow pets indoors. Iâve been around animals all my life, and like many pet owners, Iâve learned to recognize their cues and patterns simply from growing up with them. It may take a little time to learn your petâs quirks, but I enjoy that process and find it fun to understand what makes them feel safe and happy. The level of care I provide matches your petâs specific needs. If you just need walks or drop-in visits, Iâm happy with that. If your pet needs medication, special feeding, or other care tasks, Iâm comfortable handling those too. Iâm ready to rise to the level your pet needs and will follow your care plan exactly.

âEvelyn was very communicative and took very good care of our girl. Our senior dog has some quirks and special requests, and Evelyn had no issues, making our time away stress free.â

About: I have had pets and taken care of other's pets for most of my life! I absolutely adore animals of all kinds. I have been house/pet sitting for the last few years on my own but I'm trying to expand my client base and meet new furry friends! I also have lots of experience with cats! A large portion of my clients prefer overnight stays but I am willing to do drop ins as well. I'd love to hear from you soon. I currently work part time and my schedule is pretty flexible. With notice I can make sure I am able to spend plenty of time with your babies! I have done some house sitting before and never had any complaints! I am also very responsive and I will take good care of your pets and your home. No worries!
âVery communicative! Let me know when there was a problem with one of my girls! Sent cute pictures daily. I felt very comfortable leaving for a long holiday weekend with Mary taking care of my babies!â

âMallory did an excellent job ensuring our house and pup were well cared for. She was super reliable and responsive and asked questions if she wasn't clear on something. Strongly recommend her!â

FAQs for House Sitting - Merrimac
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 1,484 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Merrimac. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitterâs presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Merrimac walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your homeâs security or appliances.
Itâs helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Merrimac maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate theyâll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your petâs profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Merrimac choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Roverâs commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justiceâs National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Merrimac. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
