John did amazing taking care of my baby girl Chloe. She is a very active 11 month old lab and I had to leave her home while I went on vacation because she just isn't mature enough to travel with. I was able to relax and not worry about my baby girl because I knew she was in good hands and being taken care of. John kept me up to date daily and shared photos. When I got home, he kept a logged each day and all that he did to take care of my baby girl. I definitely recommend John and will be utilizing him in the future.

Rita came to our rescue during a last minute request, actually a day of request, after our special needs daughter was admitted to the ICU. When everything in our world was turned upside down, Rita was able to bring some peace of mind knowing our fur babies were well loved and taken care of. We couldn’t have asked for a better house sitter and we were so blessed to have had Rita there during our time of need. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! 💕

We're fairly new to PA & needed someone to come house sit with our dog & cat while on vacation. Melisha was available during our anticipated days away & from her profile/bio she seemed a good fit. I booked a meet-n-greet & while speaking with her in person, I knew she was THE one to watch Gunther & Honey. She's very personable, very knowledgeable, and experienced. I had requested she send daily pictures & updates, & that's exactly what she did - kept in daily communication (unlike other sitters I've had in the past). She also walked Gunther daily, & fed him at my requested times to keep his schedule as close to normal as possible. I will be booking Melisha again to watch our fur babies during future trips out of town! She was excellent, & I highly recommend her!!!

About: I’ve been pet/home sitting for 7 years with different families all over Maryland. My goal is to give clients ease and know their pets/home is in good hands! 😊 Since I work in the evenings, my mornings and afternoons are free to walk, play, or just keep your fur baby company while you’re away. And with house sitting, I’ll make sure your plants watered, etc. What started out as something I did to help our family and friends has grown to something I thoroughly love to do! While I do not have any pets of my own, I know there is great l responsibility when taking care of animals . My promise is to keep your pets in the safe environments you’ve provided/created for them.

About: I have lots of experience with all kinds of animals ranging from lizards to giant dogs! I will treat your pet like my own, and give them the best care I can. I am gentle and empathetic with all animals, I even treat them like people! I currently have no job, so I can do pet sitting or care most hours of the day. I currently don't have a car but my husband is willing to give me rides between 8am and 2pm, and if I can stay late he can get me at 11pm too. I am willing to stay the night places to ensure the best care for your pets. My personal pets are 3 lovely cats I spoil to no end. I feed them the best food I can find and give them all the attention in the world! When I have pet sit in the past I exceeded expectations with how much time I spent with the pets and how loving I was. I also left the place as clean as it was when I arrived.

This was a last minute thing, as one of my co-workers informed me of Rover.com, so I went on and did an immediate search within my zip code and found several sitters. We reached out to Rachel because she was so close to our home we felt it would be convenient for both our dogs as well as her if she needed to tend to her own needs. Rachel met us the very next day and was prepared with notebook and pen to take notes, so we walked her through everything and she had very few questions. She also worked at our vet and was comfortable giving medication to dogs since our greyhound takes several meds in the morning and evening and this went well. No complaints from our side, she did keep us informed and left the house as she found it. Thank you Rachel, see you next time.

About: I am a lover of all animals and will treat yours like my own. I was a Dog Trainer at Petsmart for 3 years. I have two dogs, two horses, and a cat of my own. We live on a farm that opens up to the woods so we love to exercise and we also love to hit the trails at Solider's Delight or the Westminster pond. All sizes and breeds are welcome. If they need special care or medication, I am also able to assist with that. If there's any other pets in the house, I am knowledgeable with most. You’re welcome to call and check in at any time, and you’ll receive text or email updates daily. I hope you will consider me in your search to find someone to care for your pet family. I work full time, but happy to help your family out with the furry, feathery, or scaling member of the family just like my own. Just like my own! I try to stay as organized as possible, so a list to go off of is preferred! I'm happy to spend time caring for your pet.

Debra did a great job. She sent lots of videos and pictures. Both pups loved her. It’s always tough to be so far away from our 2 dogs, but we had nothing to worry about. She also came to our house before we left on vacation so we could relax and also staying till our follow up sitter came. So we were very happy with her.

I have been having Shanelle come and watch my house and furbabies for a year now and they are always happy and healthy when I come home. I also know that whenever I come home after a trip it is to a clean house, not because I expect that in any way,but just because she leaves the area better than how she found it.

Zacharie was absolutely wonderful with our two dogs! He kept us updated throughout his stay with great communication and plenty of photos, which gave us total peace of mind while we were away. The dogs clearly loved spending time with him. He walked and played with them a bunch, and they were happy and relaxed when we got home. As an extra thoughtful touch, he even brought us a couple of sweet treats from his trip to the apple festival… such a kind gesture! We’d definitely recommend Zacharie to anyone looking for a caring and reliable sitter.

FAQs for House Sitting - McSherrystown

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in McSherrystown on Rover is $21.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 967 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across McSherrystown. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred McSherrystown walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in McSherrystown maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in McSherrystown choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in McSherrystown. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
