“Emily was great during our meet and greet with our energetic and friendly doodle! She was patient and attentive, while also answering our questions. She asked thoughtful questions as well, and we would be happy to book again!”

About: I keep up to date on tips and tricks for dog care! I used to work for Bark Magazine, as well as a pet sitting company based in Davis. I have experience dog sitting all sizes of dog (from Chihuahuas to Danes!) as well as cats! I have experience sitting pups training to become well-behaved and responsible dogs. (behavior, potty, etc.) Message me and we can make sure your fur family is well taken care of! I am working full-time at the moment, so I am available most days during/around midday. I am good to work around your schedule if you have work during the day as well! If the ground/cement it too hot for walks I'll try to get dogs to play or run around in whatever area is available (backyard/larger living space). I usually like to take them to parks, when the weather is nice. I’ve always taken care of pets, whether for my family, neighbors, or clients! I often like taking walks during lunch so walking or visiting pets during that time is very normal for me. I love to use what is available to me! If you have a small yard or a nice walkway near your home, I’ll make the most of it. Same goes for cats, a good toy basket or a nice place to find them is always helpful!

“Ruixi was wonderful!! Our two kittens were so happy to be able to play with her while we were on a long trip! We knew they were well cared for and loved! She communicated really well with us and gave us updates on our kitties! We would definitely book her again!!!”

About: I grew up with dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, and turtles. they were family pets and i learned a lot watching my siblings raise their dogs. i have a 7 year old cat that i've raised since he was a kitten. I have also fostered another cat for a few months. although introducing my cat with the foster was time consuming, it was worth to see them get along. I work part time as a barista. i don't have set days off but i work very early mornings. i am also taking a couple online courses, but i go at my own pace so im flexible with afternoons and evenings. just like with little humans, i make sure cleaning supplies, little choking hazards, and toxic foods are stored high in storage closets where my cat can't get into. i vacuum regularly in case i have dropped small pieces of plastic (that my cat loves more than toys for some reason). i will occasionally pet sit for my sister when she is away on vacation. i don't assume i know her pets better than she does, so i have texted her before about a concern i had about her dog. i fed both her pets at the same time, but one refused to eat. instead of assuming that her dog would eventually eat, i reached out to know if there was anything i could do differently and the solution was a change in environment. i would then feed them in separate rooms and that did the trick. i loved sending her pictures of them unprompted and when asked.

About: I love animals very much and as a result, have much experience with them. I had a dog for 10 years that I fully trained from the age of 8 weeks, so I am very comfortable with puppies. Additionally, I have dog-sat senior dogs many times, for multiple days. I am a student at UC Davis currently, with class only a couple of times per day. I have a car as well so I am easily able to visit your pet multiple times throughout the day. I have no classes on Fridays or the weekends so I am usually fully free on those days. About: I’ve grown up around dogs of all breeds and sizes my entire life, so caring for them has always come naturally to me. I also have a puppy of my own, so I know firsthand how much attention, patience, playtime, and love they need! Right now, I have a very flexible schedule and plenty of availability throughout the week and on weekends. I’m able to accommodate daytime and evenings, and I’m happy to work with your pet’s normal routine. My availability will always be kept up to date on Rover. I know how important it is to feel comfortable with the person caring for your pet. I’ll always follow your instructions and your pet’s normal routine as closely as possible! I have a friendly puppy of my own and understand the importance of supervision, regular potty breaks, play, and lots of attention of course! I’ll also keep you updated while your pet is in my care.

“I have a pretty high energy golden pup and Rich did a great job with her. He took her on a long walk then came back to the house to play a little fetch with her. Remi had a great time with Rich. I will definitely be using him again!”

About: I’ve been caring for animals for most of my life and genuinely love getting to know pets of all personalities, ages, and energy levels. I had my own dog, Boo, for 12 years and was responsible for her daily care, routines, and companionship throughout her life. Currently, I help with my roommate’s dog, Mavi, and have helped care for her for the past 3 years. I help make sure she is fed, walked, has fresh water, and of course gets plenty of cuddles and belly rubs. I’ve also pet sat for friends several times and have experience caring for dogs of different ages and temperaments. In high school, I regularly house sat and cared for animals for a family friend with a farm. Along with caring for their dogs and cats, I also helped look after their horses and goats. I understand how important it is for pets to feel safe, comfortable, and loved while their owners are away, and I always try to provide calm, attentive, and reliable care. I currently work full time Monday through Friday from 8am–5pm, but I’m available to care for pets before and after work, during my lunch break, and much more flexibly on weekends. I’m committed to making sure pets stay on their normal routines and get the attention, care, and companionship they need while their owners are away. At this time, I plan to provide care in the client’s home, where pets are often most comfortable in their familiar environment. Since I currently rent, I’m limited on additional animals in my home, but I’m happy to provide reliable in-home visits, walks, drop-ins, and house sitting care. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on maintaining their normal routine and creating a calm, safe, and comfortable environment. I understand that pets can feel stressed when their owners are away, so I try to provide consistency, patience, and plenty of attention to help them feel secure. I carefully follow all instructions regarding feeding schedules, walks, medications, house rules, and any special care needs. I also make sure pets always have fresh water, regular potty breaks, exercise, affection, and supervision appropriate for their needs and personality. I believe communication and trust are very important, so I’m happy to provide updates and photos to help owners feel reassured while they’re away. My goal is always to make pets feel cared for, comfortable, and loved in their own environment.
About: As a dog trainer, I have the opportunity to help people build deeper relationships, communicate more effectively, and have more fun with their dogs. It’s a privilege to bring joy to my clients by strengthening the bond they share with their companions. My goal in training is to develop balanced, confident dogs. I believe a dog that understands what’s expected of them, and what they can expect from the world around them, is a dog that can move through life with confidence, security, and joy. I am a professional dog trainer so my full day is dedicated and devoted to the animals in my care. I often enjoy early morning walks at the river with my off leash pack, then I work and train dogs through the day. 1) Safety First: animal welfare is the #1 priority, full stop. 2) Relationship Second: training does not being until trust is built between animal and handler. This is very important - I will never push the animal faster than they are ready to move or faster than the trust and relationship will support. 3) Goals Third: after we ensure safety and build a trusting relationship, we can prioritize the client’s goals for training. Training is done through positive incentive based learning following science-backed principles of learning theory.
“Cody was absolutely wonderful! He checked in on my cat, Jacki, for a drop-in visit, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. He was caring, reliable, and attentive, and it gave me great peace of mind knowing Jacki was in such good hands. It’s clear that Cody genuinely cares about animals and takes his responsibility seriously. I really appreciate the care and attention he gave Jacki, and I would happily recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate pet sitter. I would definitely book Cody again! 🐱❤️”

“Mooney is just incredible. Our cats adored him. You can tell from the pictures, they were crazy about him. The most important quality in a pet sitter is someone who truly loves animals and Mooney does.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
