⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We could not have asked for a better pet and house sitter. Ashley did an amazing job caring for our home and pets, and went above and beyond in every way. She sent us updates and pictures every morning, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Ashley also administered our dog Wade’s insulin injections, and she handled it confidently and carefully. Knowing Wade’s medical needs were met so well was incredibly reassuring. What truly meant the most to our family was how Ashley also helped care for my dad—making sure he had food every evening and checking in on him. That extra level of kindness and responsibility speaks volumes about her character. She is dependable, thoughtful, communicative, and genuinely caring. We felt completely comfortable and confident knowing everything (and everyone) was in such good hands. We would 100% use Ashley again and recommend her without hesitation.

Jaclyn has been exceptional with my Cane Corso Sasha. She is a genuinely kind and warm-spirited individual. As someone who is very particular about who cares for my beloved pet, I was truly impressed by how quickly and naturally my Sasha bonded with her—almost as if they had known each other for years. I wholeheartedly recommend Jaclyn to anyone seeking a trustworthy and compassionate caregiver to look after their fur baby. She is truly heaven-sent and treats your pet as if they were her own.

Brooke was phenomenal! She and our skittish little dog, Bingo, hit it off right away during a "meet & greet". She took great care of Bingo, sending us pictures & updates on a regular basis. we were able to fully enjoy our 10 day trip, knowing our home and fur baby were in such good hands. We will definitely want Brooke back the next time we leave town.

Jessie looked after our soon to be 19 yr old kitty, Bella. She's a tough one...blind, deaf in one ear, has asthma and in renal failure (but is still going strong). Oh, Bella also has attitude...aka...tortietude...the kind a Persain tortoiseshell, senior cat would have. Trust me, I had reservations leaving her for one night, but I did. Thankfully, Jessie came through. Jessie was reliable in every way...even when it came to medicating Bella, which turned out to be more difficult than the consult. I guess, because Bella is now blind, taking a treat, with medication hidden inside, from a stranger, is a no-no. Anyway, we were able to talk things through, and ultimately, late in the evening, Jessie was able to manually give Bella her medications...and I was able to sleep soundly knowing Bella was in good hands. Jessie is a kind soul, has patience, and cared enough to meet Bella where she was. For that, I would hire her again in a heart beat.

About: Hi! I'm a pre-vet student with hands on animal care experience and a genuine love for animals of all kinds. I know how important it is to leave your pet with someone you can fully trust, so I focus on providing attentive, dependable care while making sure your pet feels safe and loved! Whether its walks, playtimes, feeding, or just keeping them company, I treat every pet as my own. My goal is to give owners peace of mind while creating a fun, calm, and caring experience for their pets. Pet care fits naturally into my weekly routine and is something I prioritize and plan around. I have a flexible schedule that allows me to provide consistent care, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some weekends depending on the day. I’m able to accommodate regular visits, drop-ins, walks, and feeding schedules, and I make sure to build my commitments around each pet’s needs. I’m reliable with timing and communication, so pet parents can feel confident their pets are being checked on and cared for as planned. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize creating a calm, safe, and familiar environment by following their normal routine as closely as possible. I pay close attention to feeding instructions, medication schedules, and any specific behavioral needs or preferences each pet has. I make sure doors are secured, litter boxes are clean, water is fresh, and the space is kept tidy and comfortable. I also focus on building trust with each pet by moving at their pace, especially with shy or anxious animals, and giving them gentle attention and reassurance. I treat every home with respect and care, keeping everything clean and leaving things exactly as I found them. My goal is always to ensure both pets and owners feel safe, comfortable, and confident while I’m there.

Our experience with Amy was the least stressful house/petting sitting experience I've ever had. Within 5 minutes of talking to her (maybe less), I knew I could trust her to treat our four-legged kiddos like she would her own pets. Amy has a very calming presence and I think the animals could sense that. She asked a ton of thoughtful questions at our Meet & Greet and I could tell that she wanted to keep as much consistency and normalcy for our pets as possible while we are gone. She gave perfect little updates a couple of times a day - just enough to remind us that they were being well taken care of and loved on. We will absolutely be booking again!

Anna is amazing! Anna treats my Birdie just like I do. And Birdie adores her. She sends me beautiful photos of Birdie in action and is a great writer with a little story about every day. I live for them when I’m traveling. She also left my home spotless. Totally unnecessary but lovely to come home to a clean fresh house.

Jennifer was a fantastic house sitter for an 11 day stay for my 2 large dogs and 2 cats. This was an emergency, and so I had to book her with only 2 days notice. She came to meet with me and the animals before, and very quickly learned the routines for walking, feeding, and caring for the animals and the household. Everything was fantastic during her stay and she had excellent communication and tons of pictures. She's also kind of a neat freak, and left the house cleaner than when I left it!! I know my animals were well cared for, and would definitely have her back. 10/10 - and I would definitely recommend Jennifer to anyone looking for a house sitter!

FAQs for House Sitting - Lakeland

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Lakeland on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 491 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Lakeland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Lakeland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Lakeland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Lakeland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Lakeland. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
