Ziggy and Zuzu had a great time with Amanda and her family. They loved all the attention and pets playing in the backyard. Amanda gave me great updates with pictures and responds quickly. Hope she can sit for us again!

Corey was wonderful. He vacuumed, cleaned up and the dogs were well cared for. We got snow while out of town and he even shoveled. We would happily have him dog sit again.

About: Hi! My name is Sarah, and I specialize in caring for small dogs in my home. I have a small dog of my own, so I truly understand the unique needs of little pups and how important it is for them to feel safe, comfortable, and protected. Because I have experience with small breeds, I’m very mindful about their safety. Small dogs can be more vulnerable to things like larger animals, big birds, or unsafe outdoor environments, so I always closely supervise outdoor time and make sure they’re in a secure, controlled area. Your dog will be treated like part of the family here. I focus on providing a calm, attentive environment where small dogs can relax, play safely, and receive plenty of attention and care. I know how much trust it takes to leave your pet with someone, and I take that responsibility very seriously. I look forward to meeting you and your pup! I am home full time so I will be available to be with your pup all day and give all the care he or she needs! Safety is my top priority — pets are always supervised, introductions are done slowly and carefully, and I follow each owner’s routines and preferences. I keep a clean, pet-friendly home, provide comfortable rest areas, and can crate your dog if requested. You’ll receive regular updates and photos so you always know your pet is happy and well cared for.

Have absolutely no complaints! We were gone for 10 days leaving behind 3 animals and Heaven took amazing care of them. I had daily pictures of all three animals. We ran out of cat food, she got some and went above and beyond and even got a litter scooper. She is a rockstar and will be our go to from now on!

Elizabeth is so good my with high anxiety rescue pup. I appreciate how clean she left my home (even washing my coffee cup from the morning before I left!) she was communicative, kind, and sent me photos of her engagement with my dog throughout the day when I was missing him. Really appreciated her energy and willingness to be super flexible with start times! I will be using her again in the near future! ❤️

She kept us informed on how the dogs and cat was doing with texts and pictures. Our older dog ended up getting kennel cough right before we left. She gave her the pills and kept us updated on Thistle's progress. We got back and Thistle was back to her usual self. Our house was cleaned and could find nothing wrong with the place!!! I will book f a. again when we go out of town!

About: My name is Cameron, and I’m a dog trainer offering personalized training and boarding services designed around the unique needs of each dog. I take a thoughtful, intentional approach prioritizing structure, environment, and overall well-being so every dog in my care feels safe, understood, and set up to succeed. No two dogs are the same, which is why I tailor each stay to match their temperament, behavior, and needs whether that means building reliable obedience, working through behavioral challenges, or enjoying a balanced and structured day-to-day life. When dogs stay with me for boarding, they’re not just being watched they’re cared for with purpose. Each dog follows a structured daily routine that includes exercise, enrichment, rest, and play, all adjusted to their individual energy level and personality. I’m very intentional about creating a calm, controlled environment, whether a dog thrives in a social setting or needs more one-on-one time and space. A big part of my program includes getting dogs out into the real world in a safe and structured way. We incorporate long walks, hikes, and adventure-style pack walks to build confidence, improve behavior in new environments, and allow dogs to decompress in a healthy, fulfilling way. These outings aren’t just for exercise they’re intentional training opportunities that help dogs learn how to exist calmly and neutrally around new sights, smells, and distractions. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of dogs, from police K9s and sport dogs to beloved family pets and rescue cases. That experience allows me to confidently adapt to different drives, temperaments, and challenges. At the end of the day, my focus is on building clear communication, confidence, and trust so both you and your dog feel supported every step of the way. For the past four years, I have immersed myself in working with dogs across various fields, from pet dogs to police K9s and protection dogs. This diverse experience has enriched my skills and deepened my passion for canine care and training. My part-time job provides me with the flexibility to dedicate ample time to these incredible animals, allowing me to focus on their training, well-being, and development. This journey has been immensely rewarding, fostering a profound connection with each dog and enhancing my expertise in handling and training them. Ensuring the safety and well-being of dogs in my care is my top priority. I implement strict safety protocols, including secure environments, proper nutrition, regular health check-ups, and personalized training programs tailored to each dog's needs. I vigilantly monitor their behavior to prevent any potential issues and provide a nurturing atmosphere that promotes their physical and emotional health. By fostering a routine that balances exercise, socialization, and rest, I create a harmonious environment where each dog can thrive safely and happily.

About: I have been caring for pets for my entire life. Knowing that your baby is as important to you as mine is to me, I will care for your furry friend as I would hope someone would care for my own baby. I’m looking to build my care community and availability so I will be able to help when needed. Currently Saturday and Sunday are fully available. Monday-Friday is mostly open with a few instances where I don’t have flexibility. I will care for your fluffy friends either at your home if that is your preference, or I can offer short term stays at my home. My preference is to keep animals where they are most comfortable.

Kira took fantastic care of my two dogs over Thanksgiving week. They absolutely loved her, and it was clear from their relaxed, happy behavior that she gave them lots of attention and affection. She also went above and beyond with my chickens. She noticed their heater wasn’t working, figured out how to build a functioning fixture from parts in the garage, and then continued to check it daily to make sure it was still working properly until we got back. I will definitely be asking Kira to watch my animals again. She’s competent, communicates clearly, and is truly compassionate with animals. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter. And here ADA dog is a sweetie too!

I have dog grooming experience, training, basic first aid/medical care (old pups and special needs). I currently am off for several months from working on the slope so I have all the time in the world to love your baby. I am also insured through PCI (Pet Care Insurance) on top of the Rover Garuntee. Currently, I am off work from the slope till the winter so I have all the time in the world. Walks whenever needed. Dog park if they want. Whatever is best for your pet. Following your instructions on how best to care for them. And of course, lots of attention, lots of cuddles! If they are in my home, I have no problem with them.Being on my furniture or sleeping in bed.

Jaime took excellent care of our entire animal family. She kept me informed of how everyone was doing and sent pictures so I knew that everyone was doing well. She had a lot of animals on her hands with my four dogs, three chickens and two tortoises. It was clear that everyone was well taken care of when we got home, the dogs acted like we'd just been gone for the day as opposed to over a week!

FAQs for House Sitting - Houston

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 417 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Houston. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Houston walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Houston maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Houston choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Houston. On Rover:

  • 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
