I have a fenced in yard but I walk my golden retriever twice per day which I would include your dog in those walks and add an evening walk right before bed. I used to walk dogs at an animal shelter, too. I am a teacher, so during the school year your dog would be walked in the morning, in the afternoon and right before bed. I also have a large fenced in yard. The most your dog would be alone during the weekdays would be between 7:00 am and 2:45 but would have our golden retriever as a companion. I have two teenagers at home who also love dogs. I have a fenced in yard and a friendly spayed golden retriever female who is 7 years old. I also have two teenagers who love dogs. Your dog is welcome to sleep on the couch or bed or come with a crate. My dog does not sleep in a crate but I have had other “clients” that prefer to come with their crates.
