âEllen was absolutely amazing watching our pets! This was our first time using Rover (or any pet sitter) so we were nervous at first. Our nerves went away when Ellen started to send updates and pictures multiple times a day while we were on vacation. We were able to enjoy our vacation without worrying about the safety of our animals at home because we knew they were in good, caring hands! Coming home, our flight was delayed twice so Ellen was able to quickly adjust our booking to add another check in so our pets wouldnât be home alone for too long. Thank you Ellen for being awesome, we will definitely be booking again in the future! ?â¤ď¸â

About: As a lifelong animal lover, I bring years of experience caring for both energetic puppies and senior pets. My last two dogs lived to the wonderful ages of 15 and 16, giving me invaluable insight into every stage of a petâs life. Working from home allows me to provide constant attention, whether itâs for walks, potty breaks, or just companionship. Iâm also highly organized and reliable, with reminders set to ensure medications or special care needs are never missed. Your pet will be in loving, experienced hands My flexible schedule is perfect for providing attentive and consistent care. Since I work from home, Iâm available throughout the day and night for walks, potty breaks, playtime, and cuddles. This also means your pet wonât be left alone for long periods and will always have someone nearby for comfort and supervision. I can easily adapt to your petâs routine, ensuring they feel secure and well cared for while youâre away. I understand how important it is to feel confident that your pet is in safe and caring hands. I prioritize your petâs well-being by maintaining a secure environment, by keeping doors and gates locked, monitoring them during walks, or ensuring they stick to their normal routine as best as I can. Building trust with both you and your pet is my top priority, so you can rest assured knowing theyâll be treated with the same love and respect as my own.
âMichaela was amazing! She took such good care of our fur babies. She communicated very well and sent many updates. The house was even cleaner than when I left it. I would recommend Michaela to any friend.â

About: Hi Iâm skye I love dogs especially little dogs and puppies. I do have my own dog so if you board or doggy day care he has a friend to play with and there own room with lots of toys to play with. Iâve been watching dogs for friends not only in my home but house sitting as well so Iâm very trust worthy. Every time I see a stray I canât help rescuing every chance I get. If you want to bring your dogs toys or crate your more then welcome. If you have strict rules for your pet please let me know or leave a list for me. If you want your dog being watched by a real dog lover Iâm definitely the one to use.
About: Iâve always owned a dog since being a young girl. I have raised puppies, owned ferrets, house watched birds, and have my very own doggo that I consider my own child (sheâs got her own closet of clothes and is spoiled beyond belief). Our daily walk includes her breathing in fresh air as I rollerblade and then a round about walk/run to keep her in shape. I am a teacher so I work Monday-Friday but am free weekends. After school I dedicate my time to my fur baby. Lots of love and pets to give after a busy work day. Summer is neigh so I will be home 24/7 to give extra snuggles and the best dog vacation EVER for your pupper (or feline friend). I have a fenced in yard and a baby gate to allow for play in the living room and kitchen area. Doggos are allowed on furniture and plenty of dog beds and toys to play with. Owners are always allowed to bring a crate or any dog items to help your pupper feel more comfortable and acclimated.
âCarolina was wonderful and really gave us peace of mind during our trip. She was excellent at communicating and giving updates to us and also left our home clean. She will definitely be rebooked by us in the future!â

âZoe was wonderful with taking care of our two golden retrievers. Great communication and sent plenty of updates with how our girls were doing. We will definitely book with her again!â

âAlyssa was the absolute best! She took such good care of our babies and gave us updates all throughout the stay! We never had to worry about if the boys were okay, because she constantly gave us reassurance! She left our home cleaner than we left it! I can not recommend Alyssa enough! We will definitely be using her again!â

About: Iâve always loved animals and enjoy spending time caring for pets. Iâm responsible, patient, and attentive to each petâs individual needs. I understand how important it is to feel comfortable leaving your pets with someone you trust, and Iâll make sure they receive plenty of care, attention, playtime, and love while youâre away. I have a flexible schedule that allows me to spend plenty of time caring for and playing with your pets. Iâm available for pet care on weekends and during my weekday availability. I want every pet in my care to feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Iâll make sure they have plenty of attention, playtime, and supervision while also following their usual routines and any instructions you provide.
About: At the young age of 10 I started gaining experience in dog sitting, daycare, and taking animals on walks. I know the importance of communicating with pet parents as well my experience of ensuring animal safety, going to the vet, and specific diets. My sister has a pet business and I worked with her for a long time to gain more knowledge and experience hands on. I have a lot of experience with different sizes and breeds of dogs including grooming or pet-handling. Currently I am in school for drone operations and have a good amount of time to watch, love on, and enjoy taking care of your fur babyđ For my clients no matter the service I provide photo and video updates, knowing how it feels to leave my furbaby with another person than me or my fiancĂŠ. I also keep my phone nearby so that I am able to quickly respond to any text or calls I may receive.
About: I have been taking care of pets for family members and friends for over 5 years now. It started when a friend had an emergency out of town and needed help. It was a pleasure to sit in and feed, play, and send goofy pictures of my friendâs dog to provide ease and comfort during a hard time. I work full time and that means my cats are fed on a routine. They require a special diet that requires portioned meals and time to play. I have an active pet cam that I am able to use to talk to them when I am not home to provide comfort and time dispensers for treats. I will abide by your routine and follow directive on when to feed, when to walk, and when to provide or administer medication. Only you know your companion best and in order to provide safety and structure, as your care-taker it would be a privilege to honor your schedule and routine.
âWe had such an amazing experience with Tuongvi and Ray. They stayed at our home for five nights to care for our baby girl Roxy. I truly could not have asked for better sitters. They took amazing care of Roxy and treated my home with so much respect while they were here. It gave me peace of mind knowing she was in such loving and responsible hands. Communication was excellent from start to finish⌠they sent daily updates and pictures which was very reassuring that Roxy was happy and well cared for. Grateful to have found them, and I am booking them again for two more trips I am taking.â

âLana is great - super reliable, on time and most importantly she kept the puppy super happy ! Those with puppies know that this can be a busy job âşď¸âşď¸âşď¸. We did book her twice and will definitely book her againâ

âJenna was excellent and we would definitely have her back to care for our animals. Her communication was top notch! Jenna went above and beyond when our dog got sick on the last day and she had to clean up quite a mess. Not only did she take a crate outside to wash, she also washed two of our three dogs as well. Highly recommend !â

âThis is our first experience in trusting our pups to someone other than a family member or a friend. We cant be more pleased with our experience and itâs due to Aidenâs wonderful personality and love of animals. Aiden continuously provided us with updates and photos of our pups. He was always very prompt in replying to our messages. Both the pups settled in with him very comfortably and even though it took our 16 year old Ruby a little longer, she came around. We are so pleased with Aidenâs care for our pups, weâll definitely book with him again and refer him to our friends and family.â

About: ever since I was 10, iâve always taken care of dogs, whether itâs my own, or someone elseâs. I I have tons of experience with puppies to senior dogs, and I always make sure to have the owner on speed dial whenever thereâs possible questions or emergencies towards their pets. Iâm an active person, so walking dogs isnât a problem for me. Iâve always believed that dogs should get the same amount of exercise as us to keep them healthy, promotes better movement, and overall happiness for pets. As of right now, my schedule is completely free in the afternoon, especially on the weekends. The only days that Iâm not available are major holidays. when it comes to supervising animals, I always make sure to give them my full attention. I make sure to have them in the room with me, and take the time to make sure to take them out to use the restroom every hour or two.
âOverall, I am VERY happy with Kahealani. She kept us updated throughout the stay, sent plenty of pictures, and even handled an issue with the neighbors dog who learned (or maybe it was our dogs who learned) to operate the latch on the gate between our yards and decided to come over for a swim. We have not had the best luck finding a pet sitter, but I am pretty sure we found someone in Kahaelani that took care of our babies in a way that made us feel happy. For the first time in a while, we did not have to worry about our puppies while we were gone, we knew they were in GREAT hands. I will be sending her name to a couple of my neighbors who are looking for a sitter for their dogs. She was GREAT and I cannot wait to use her services again, and I know my puppies can't wait!!!â

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 1,023 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Hempstead. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitterâs presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Hempstead walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your homeâs security or appliances.
Itâs helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Hempstead maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate theyâll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your petâs profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hempstead choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Roverâs commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justiceâs National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Hempstead. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
