I never did meet Jessie in person as she took over from a prior house sitter while I was out of town. She seemed to do an outstanding job though, was very responsive, kept me updated, and didn't mind spending an extra night when schedules got delayed slightly. Would happily have her house and dog sit again.

So Rona took amazing care of our pup and house while we were gone. She was very communicative and always sent good pics and videos at least once a day (as requested!). She took extremely good care of our house and it was really nice coming home to a clean space ❤️

I can’t give Erica enough stars, she is absolutely amazing. During my recent trip, Erica stayed at my place and took care of my pet for ~ 2 weeks. She was quick to gain the trust of my anti-social cat, she communicated with me nearly daily, and my cat was happy and well cared for while I was gone. Erica also was an excellent house guest and left the place in great/tidy condition (probably better than I had left it). Thanks again Erica for taking such great care of Toed!

Scott did a great job of caring for our pets and our home while we were away! He sent videos and photos daily, which was wonderful. Our dog loved the extra exercise while playing with his sweet dog and hitting trails that she wasn't familiar with so she was super happy! This was our first time using Scott and I would definitely ask him to housesit again!

Izabelle was great! She clearly loves animals and seemed very comfortable caring for my older dog, which put me at ease. She communicated clearly and sent me pictures of my pup along the way. I felt safe having her watch my home as well. Would definitely work with Izzy again. :)

About: Animals have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve spent years caring for pets for friends and family. I have experience caring for dogs of all ages, sizes, and energy levels. I make sure every animal gets plenty of exercise, affection, playtime, and care while their family is away. I love creating a fun, safe, and comfortable environment for every animal I watch. I am great with any communication requests/requirements and I hope to help make this process easy and smooth :) As a General Manager in retail, I have a very flexible schedule and am able to create my own work hours. I can adjust my day as needed and take breaks when necessary, making it easy for me to return home for feeding times, potty breaks, exercise, and general care. My schedule typically ranges between the hours of 9am to 9:30pm, but I have the flexibility to structure those hours around the needs of my pet. I worked in child care for a couple years and I am the oldest four siblings. I also grew up with our family dog named Pookah. While I understand that caring for humans and dogs are different, I have experience caring for others with the upmost respect, care, kindness, and patience. I love taking walks and getting outside. Overall, I strive to create a very warm and fun environment for any pet I care for.

About: Hello fellow animal lovers, I have experience with pet sitting many animals (even up to 4+ in one household). I am capable of playing with, feeding, watering, and caring for your pets. I have lots of patience and love being around animals. I love meeting many lovable pups and kitties as I don’t have any of my own yet. I would take care for your lovely pets as you would yourself. I’m usually flexible with time, though I have another full time job as well. I am looking for forward to caring for your pets to interact and learn more about different breeds and well as help me make a little extra money for my education! Thank you so much for considering me! My work has me off one week at a time and most every Friday night to Sunday early morning. I can be home with them majority of the day as needed or take them on long walks and hikes as I love to do that in my own free time. I maintain a clean living space and provide enjoyable interactions with pets both inside and outside the home. When leaving the house I make sure to go through a checklist of things needed to be done to make sure the house is exactly as I found it. Harnesses and leashes always put on to go outside, doors locked and pets in protected spaces they need to be when I have to say goodbye.

About: I moved to AK summer of 2017 from Florida, I grew up on a farm so always had a love for animals. That summer I heard of an elderly woman needing someone to care for her pets while she went to a Drs appointment in the lower 48, so I volunteered my time for 5 days. When she returned I got a message from her overjoyed of how healthy and happy her pets were and how spotless her home was, she was relieved and was able to settle in without worry, The following week the calls began, word of mouth spreading like wild fire I became a guy in demand with 100% of my clients returning. I have experience with all sorts of pets (Cats and dogs) ranging from bit older to a few months, I have clients with medical conditions needing daily medication some with dietary needs. I have clients who have separation anxiety and some who don’t like other men or even children or other pets. I have clients who have ran away from every other pet sitter the owners have left them with and yet they stay glued to me like white on rice. Im a 24/7 pet care provider so will be available all day and wouldn’t leave for 8hrs a day I’d be with your pet all day, Im able to form a bond with animals easily I can read and understand the mannerisms of animals easily and able to help them adjust and become comfortable and at ease. I don’t just open the door and say ok go potty or go outside for a bit, I take them on adventures and yes even the older ones get to go on a small adventure making them feel like a puppy again! Your pet won’t need for anything under my care may it be dog walking or even pet day care or sitting for weeks or months at a time while ( and yes I board cats) or even some simple training or even a good ole grooming! My expertise is well versed when it comes to pets care/needs. Soo treat your pet to that vacation like experience don’t settle for less. Certified CPR and First Aid specifically for pets, I’ve sat birds, chickens, hamsters even up to 10 pets all part of same home without any issues! Anything pet related, this has become my profession this is what I live for and I love and I’m blessed to say this is my full time job, I can sit up to 5 pups at a time without issues they will all get the best care and individual lovings they need,I’ve been doing this a long time and am more then capable of making sure every pet is living there best lives! My home is not only pet friendly it is a home, many of my clients owners see my house and ask are you sure? your home is nice. Well do you want your pet living like a king/queen or locked up in a cage while you go on vacation or what not! Love going on adventure! They will be able to take in the fresh Alaska air and feel free and not locked up.

About: I’m a dedicated cat mom who understands how much our feline friends rely on trust and routine. Since adopting my cat last year, I’ve learned firsthand how much patience, observation, and care it takes to get to know a cat’s unique personality and habits. This experience has truly expanded my life and deepened my appreciation for their independence, curiosity, and warm companionship. I have open availability during the week for drop ins, house sitting and walks. And make sure to update my calendar every 2 days. Please check back or message me if you have any questions. 😊 To me, caring for pets is more than feeding or cleaning. It’s about creating a calm, loving environment where they feel secure, understood, and valued. I strive to make every pet feel that in my presence, even when you’re not there.

Sharika was amazing with Yuna. She is super kind, friendly and sweet. It didn’t take long for Yuna to warm up to her and want all her attention for the night. Before meeting Yuna Sharika asked several questions about Yuna to make sure she knew everything she needed to know about her. This really reassured me and made me feel very comfortable leaving her with Sharika. She kept open communication with me the whole night so I didn’t ever feel worried about Yuna. I will definitely be rebooking Sharika in the future P.s. Sharika even walked Yuna in the morning while she waited for me to come back and I didn’t even ask her too. She is a lovely girl and I highly recommend her ❤️❤️

FAQs for House Sitting - Girdwood

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Girdwood on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 290 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Girdwood. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Girdwood walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Girdwood maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Girdwood choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Girdwood. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
