“Alexis is always so good to our Tucker! He adores her! I know she will always go above and beyond for our boy! Shes dog sat for us twice now, and if I say “Alexis is coming” his ears lift up! Alexis thank you for loving and taking such good care of our boy!”

About: I have always been drawn to animals, big and small, domesticated and wild. Cats were the first animal I adored to the point of obsession (drawing dozens of cats on one page and naming them...yes, I was a special child). I still remember the way our family’s first cat, a tuxedo boy named Seemore, would swivel toward me as I picked him up and "hug" me around my neck. However, he was skittish around anyone outside of the family. Growing up with Seemore and our second cat, Zoe, showed me that every animal truly has their own unique soul and personality, just like people. They also may have their own past traumas, quirks, and boundaries, again, just like people. This includes rescued baby robins (ask me) and pet-shop parakeets (my little yellow-green Atticus was distinctly grouchier than my brother’s blue buddy, Mordecai), sweet old beagles, and pretty tropical fish. It’s impossible to talk about my love for animals without mentioning my soul-cat Sofia of 13 1/2 years, who died at the age of 19 1/2 in January 2023. I still grieve and miss her everyday... AND I’m comforted that she taught me everything I need to know about how to care for another being: with unconditional love, high attentiveness, endless patience, and always forgiveness. When an animal really trusts you, that’s a sacred thing and a badge of honor. It's the kind of trust that can only build over time, which I wish Sofi and I had an infinite amount of. Rest in peace, bean. In the spring, I adopted a now 14-month-old tortico rescue kitten named Josie. She's got a dynamo personality, her own language of chirps, meows and trills, and a passion for fetch. When it comes to dogs, I wasn't raised with them in the home, but still grew up around them, so my instincts with them are sharp. The first dogs I loved were my aunt’s dog Abby, an older mutt who was sweet, patient, and mellow with four-year-old me. My uncle’s dog Jack was a yellow lab/Golden mix who we called “Jack the Man Dog.” Jack had a presence that made me feel safe, and my positive memories of him after decades are proof that yes, you can be a cat AND dog lover! For decades, I have pet-sat and house-sat for neighbors, family, and friends/friends of friends. In 2017, I bottle-fed and bathed Maine Coon kittens (long story). During my first college term at Knox in 2008, I volunteered at the animal shelter to take the dogs for walks and hold the kittens to help socialize them. On New Year’s Day 2021, I helped to rescue a young cat in Chicago with a small but devoted group of local cat lovers. "Four" was successfully trapped and taken to a warm home. Through shared videos, we watched him transform from constantly terrified and shrinking away, to flipping over and showing his belly. I am honored that I was a part of him finding his furr-ever home and healing from the trauma of whatever past led him to the cold Chicago streets. More than any other cause, I donate to nonprofits that serve vulnerable animals, such as One Tail at a Time. I adopted Josie through Sanctuary of Hope in Galesburg, and since Sofia's death I have donated in her name to Alley Cat Rescue and Ernesto’s Sanctuary in Syria. During each visit, I take photos and videos for guardians to see while they’re away. It's what I would want if I was leaving my pet with someone else, missing their face, and wondering how they're doing. I also make sure my visit descriptions are detailed, e.g. my time of arrival, time(s) of feedings, and whether/when they went #1, #2, or any other number. ;) One of the lessons that Sofia taught me was how to manage several medications at once, and I became skilled at this while caring for her during her final weeks on Earth. I'll follow all directions regarding doses, supplements, etc. to a T. You can count on me to treat your pet as if they were my own, while also respecting any boundaries and special needs. Their safety is my #1 priority, full stop. I fully believe that every animal deserves kindness, respect, and reassurance that they are good, and that they are loved. I work full time, but can make time early in the morning (depending on where you live) or in the late afternoon on weekdays (after 5pm) to care for your pet. I am also totally free all day on most weekends! I believe our pets become part of what home means to us, and therefore are inextricable from it. We treasure our homes as safe spaces and we treasure our pets, so I make sure to keep doors locked at all times, both when inside and outside of the house. I ask that you do a basic scan of your home before leaving your pet in my care to make sure there are no obvious safety risks (toxic plants or products left within their reach, windows that can be pushed open, etc). You know your pet best and can help play a huge role in preventing accidents or incidents before they happen! Also, if your dog is not fully house-trained and prone to accidents, please consider leaving puppy pads in a designated area for them. At your request, I can do basic cleanup of anything that doesn't make it onto the absorbent pad, so please let me know what cleaning supplies to use (spray/wipes, paper towels, etc). Ideally, I’ll know where all the basics are: treats, toys, those cleaning supplies, leashes, clean food/water bowls, any already-opened wet food cans in the fridge, poop bags, etc. If I’m in doubt over the right meds or a similar concern comes up during my time with your pet, I'll reach out to you promptly. In case of medical emergencies, I’m not afraid to do what needs to be done to get them immediate treatment—just know that I don’t drive or have a car, so I ask that you please leave the contact info of a nearby neighbor or friend who would be able to take us to the vet in an emergency.

About: I have been asked by many friends to care for dogs, cats, birds, lizards and houseplants. One time, I had to give dialysis treatment to a poor girl who got bit by a snake! Another time, I was asked to let a cat out until he returned home. I've moved a lot recently, and am looking forward to settling down so I can establish a zoo. Until then, I'm looking forward to taking good care of your non-human friends and family. I'll be available most days throughout the summer. My landlord doesn't allow pets, otherwise I would board as well. Just let me know what you need and when! Animals have different personalities and needs. So it all depends, but love and attention are always a must. I've given medical treatments to dogs, including diabetes injections and have give cats baths, if that says anything. Some dogs like it when I jog with them, others want a slower pace. So, it all depends on the situation.

About: I have had extensive pet care experience over the years. I have cared for both dogs and cats, as well as smaller animals like rabbits and hamsters. I have experience with both indoor and outdoor pets, and I am comfortable with administering medication if needed. In my previous job, I was responsible for feeding, walking, and playing with the pets under my care. I also kept an eye on their health and reported any concerns to their owners. I am passionate about providing the best possible care for animals and I enjoy spending time with them. Well, pet care is an essential part of our daily and weekly routines, especially for pet owners like me. When it comes to taking care of our pets, we need to ensure that they are healthy, happy, and safe. This means providing them with proper nutrition, exercise, grooming, and veterinary care. As a pet owner, my daily pet care routine involves feeding my pet, giving them fresh water, and taking them for a walk or providing them with playtime. Additionally, I take some time to clean up after my pet, such as cleaning their litter box or picking up after them outside. Weekly pet care routines can involve much more, like giving my pet a bath, cleaning their bedding or cage, and checking for any potential health issues or concerns. I also make it a point to play with my pet and teach them new tricks during the week to keep them mentally stimulated and happy. Overall, pet care is a responsibility that pet owners like myself need to take seriously. By incorporating daily and weekly routines, we can ensure that our pets continue to thrive and live healthy, happy lives. Well, I think my approach to caring for my pets at home is pretty comprehensive. Firstly, I make sure to provide them with a clean environment, which means their area and kennel is cleaned as well as, beddings are changed regularly. I also make sure they have access to plenty of fresh water and nutritious food. In terms of exercise and playtime, I schedule a set amount of time each day for interactive play and exercise, in addition to walks outdoors. This keeps them happy, healthy and stimulated both physically and mentally. I also prioritize their medical needs by ensuring they receive regular checkups and vaccinations as needed. This proactive approach helps to prevent health problems down the line. Overall, I believe that providing a safe and nurturing environment, plenty of exercise and playtime, and proactive medical care are all key to caring for pets in a responsible and effective way.

About: It is a dream of mine to become a veterinarian. I am actually currently attending school to become a veterinary technician first, and I have been working at a vet’s office for about 2 years, although I have been shadowing for 3 years. I have always grown up with pets, whether it be farm animals or indoor cats and dogs. I love all animals, and it’s my dream to be able to help and care for them! I’m currently working full-time at Knox Pet Clinic as a vet assistant. I work 7am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. I can also stop by during my lunch break if you live within a close distance! I will make sure that everything in your home is left the same as when you left it! I know pets can make things messy, and I will try my best to keep it tidy!

About: I’ve previously trained bird dogs under the professional dog training business H& H Gun Dogs. I have a Viszla, Great Dane, Bulldog, and painted turtle. I love all pets and have had them all my life. Very good at working with them. I work PRN as a caretaker so I do not work every day I either have mornings or evenings off if I am not away traveling.
