About: I have taken care of dogs since I was the age of 10. Dog breeds I have watched over Doberman Pinscher, German Shepard/Husky Mix, Labradoodles, English Labs, a mini-Aussiedoodle, 2 Dachshunds, a Maltese Shitzu mix, Greyhound mix, and a Novascotia Duck Toller. I grew up riding horses which provided me access being around dogs of all shapes and sizes, including Great Danes, Boxers, King Charles Spaniels, Corgis, Australian Shepards and standard poodles. When I lived with my cousin Pacey, her Labradoodle was practically my dog as we would go on hikes. I have completed 5 home stays in the last 5 years. As far west as Clear Creek County, and Littleton. Depending on the weather, I love taking the dogs out for walks during homestays. I am based out of Superior, CO, and would be willing travel for extended house stays as far as Aspen. More recently I have taken care of a two different cats on three separate occasions. I'm not entirely sure what their breeds were, but I think one was a beautiful grey british shorthair. I work in tech, so having strong wifi would be preferred as I work remote. Thus I am able to cater my schedule around that of the animals from which I am watching. I only take care of pets in their homes, as I am not able to host animals in my home due to allergies with my roommate.
About: Hi! My name is Jake and I’d love to be the next person to watch your furry loved ones. I have grown up and cared for 5 different large dogs over the past 10 years. I have experience with aging dogs as well as younger ones. I also volunteered with the humane society so have experience with a large variety of temperaments. I love to interact with all sorts of dogs and I’m definitely the type of person who stops and asks to pet your dog as I’m walking by. I have the experience of taking care of dogs who need daily medication and have the ability to give that to them. Very happy to walk with or even run with a dog to exercise them daily or more often.
About: I have been taking care of a large variety of dogs for 20 years. From eight weeks old to 16 years old, from pugs to chows and pitbulls to 140 pound malamutes I have cared for them all. I can come by to walk and feed your best friends once a day or stay and cook them meals as per your request. I want to make sure you and your loved ones are as comfortable as possible while you are away. I do freelance work so I have pretty open availability. Making sure you're needs are met so you are comfortable is my top priority. If for some reason I can't meet all of your needs I will tell you before committing to something that doesn't fit my schedule or abilities. I am here for you. How I care for your pets and home is mostly dependent on your requests. I give medicine, food and exercise as requested. I can simply fill a food bowl, measure servings and even cook protein and veggies for your dogs if that is what you want. I am happy to keep you updated or send you pictures if you'd like. Walks are as far/long/plentiful as requested. I want to provide you with the comfort of knowing someone is there to care for your loved one as you would while you are away.
“Taylor was amazing! Our dog was happy and healthy and our house was spotless when we got home. We have a high anxiety dog and we were without phone service but felt very comfortable leaving Tito in Taylor’s care. He went above and beyond and sent many photos for when we were back with reception. Would rebook!”

“Eric was a wonderful house and pet sitter! Our dog, Willow, loved Eric and his dog Rufus. Eric took Willow on many hikes and left our house in pristine condition. We would definitely recommend Eric to anyone living or staying in Summit County! Thank you so much!”

“Lilou did a very good job communicating with us and was patient when we didn’t get back to her on a question. The dogs were taken care of as well as the house. Appreciate her very much”

About: I grew up around dogs. At just 10 years old, my mom involved me in dog sitting for a neighbor. I worked for her until I turned 18, cleaning kennels, walking the dogs, and dog sitting when she traveled. During college and afterward, I managed a dog care and senior dog shelter, dedicating my time to caring for the dogs. After work, I would walk the shelter dogs. I have two rescue dogs of my own and simply love being around animals. I love being around animals. I'm currently in between jobs and seeking new opportunities, but in the meantime, I would love to spend some quality time with animals. It really helps bring joy and comfort to my days. I live in the beautiful mountains with my two rescue dogs, who bring so much joy to my life. If the pet is staying at its home, it will enjoy cuddles and plenty of treats.
“Emma did an absolute amazing job with my pup! Kept in contact and sent pics. I would highly recommend her! She not only took great care of Bear Bear, but also of my home. Thank you Emma!”

“Aurelia was just amazing! She took such great care of our pup, communicated with us the whole time, and left our house so clean. We are so happy we went with her to watch our pup and can’t thank her enough!”

“Brenna was once again wonderful with Koshka and Quito! She was great to communicate with and sent us pictures every day. We came back from our trip to happy, healthy kitties! We highly recommend her.”

“Nate was very responsive, communicated well, sent frequent updates (and pictures), and took excellent care of our furry kids and our home while we were away. I can see why he has repeat clients and we will be one of them!”

About: I have had many dogs throughout my lifetime growing up, taken care of newly born pups, and mother while in process of giving birth. Have been given dogs to train and have trained and found loving home for them. Rescued a 3 week puppy almost dying, put him in healthy position, and found family after 3 months. Always been really patient with animals because they do not have a voice therefore we as human have to make sure we can communicate with them.
“Victoria was amazing. Jax had better care with her than he normally gets when we are home. Victoria sent regular updates with pictures and videos. She was completely trustworthy staying at our house. I can't say enough good things about the care she have to Jax.”

“Sarah did a fantastic job watching our two puppies for over 6 hours. She was prompt, quick to reply / give updates, and was a pleasure to work with. Our puppies loved her and we will book again!”

“Sasha was literally incredible. This is the first time I've ever used Rover and I was scared; we've all heard the horror stories about this app, but I am so grateful for Sasha! My dog loves her and I fully trust her with him. If you need a dog sitter, I highly suggest Sasha! 🐾❤️”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 6,396 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Downieville. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Downieville walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Downieville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Downieville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
