“Margaret was the perfect sitter for our little dog, Hattie. From the moment that we arrived to drop off Hattie, Margaret met us with a warm smile and put us right at ease that Hattie will be well taken care of. Margaret updated us with pictures over the afternoon, and when we came to pick up, Hattie was was in a great, happy mood. We have no complaints with the experience, and would gladly leave Hattie with Margaret again.”

“So happy with this host! Dogs have fun with other dogs. Comfy nap time and even a walk!!! Love the pictures!!! Could not be happier . I used to feel so guilty dropping them off at pet day cares but since I found this rover host I feel not guilt! .”

“Madison is great. I would not hesitate to leave my pet in her care again. My Jaxson can be very nervous without his pet parents but she handled him like a pro and he did seem to enjoy his time with her.”

About: Lifelong dog owner with decades of experience caring for dogs both big and small. I work from home and am able to provide constant care and plenty of exercise. Boarders or daycare get at least 3 walks/day, dozens of photos, and lots of love of course! I provide toys, bowls, a dog bed, treats, poop bags and a backup leash. A tired dog is a good dog :) feel free to bring your pet’s crate if you’d like! I grew up with border collies and labs, then rescued my own dogs in adulthood. One of my rescues was a very sick 3-month old puppy that I raised, so I am well-versed with puppy care. I do not currently have pets living in the home, so your dogs will have the run of the place! I own my own home on a quiet circle street. My yard is an expansive quarter acre of grass with access to miles of mowed walking paths off my backyard. When a visit starts, I like to take the dogs on a “Welcome Walk” to get acquainted in neutral outdoor space. I prioritize safety and clear communication (with owners and dogs!) to create a comfortable experience for all. I look forward to taking care of your wonderful pets! I work from home, so I am flexible for drop-ins, last-minute needs, or regular walks, and can give your dog consistent companionship…and some fun of course! Rain or shine, I am happy to take them out. I provide a treats (if allowed), a dog bed, bowls, toys and backup leash (but I prefer you bring the leash your dog is familiar with!). Please feel free to bring a crate if you’d like to crate your dog! When a visit starts, I like to take the dogs on “Welcome Walk” where we get acquainted in the great outdoors. This allows me to build our bond in neutral space with plenty of positive stimulation for the dogs. I prioritize safety and clear communication (with owners and dogs!) to create a comfortable experience for all. I have used the clicker training method in the past, and do not believe in any form of domineering or physical correction. Your dog will have a stable experience here!
“Another great week with Dana! Oakley loves playing with Red and her nephew. Oakley is also being socialized with cats which is a huge plus. Oakley is always happy to be dropped off and tired from all the fun when I pick him up.”

“Hillary did a fantastic job watching our dog for the day. She is great at communicating and flexible. With our drop off and pickup times. We would definitely use her again. We really appreciate her letting us know details about his day.”

“My senior dog was well looked after by Cory and his wife. I forgot to mention my boy's aversion to cats, which I didn't know they have. They were very gracious about my oversight and managed the situation well. Felt very comfortable leaving my boy with them.”

About: I’ve owned both dogs and cats and have cared for several family members’ pets for over 20 years! I’m a huge animal lover and miss having one of my own. I’m a stay-at-home-mom of 3 kids so I have plenty of time to walk and play! My schedule is extremely flexible and I’m available on weekends. Dog parents share their Rover experiences - Dooms
Reyna was everything we wanted and needed for our dog Tucker. We are in the area visiting family for Christmas and planned to spend the day in Charlottesville. Reyna came to our rescue. She sent pictures and gave updates throughout the afternoon. We will definitely contact her again next time we need a dog sitter.
Reyna is incredibly kind and is so considerate with my anxious pup! She does her best to help him adjust and offer him comfort, and he clearly feels so safe in her home! It’s a huge relief knowing he’s with her while I’m at work and he’s getting the attention he needs.

Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your Dooms commute.
If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.
Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
