“Jani & Paul were able to graciously accommodate my puppy for daycare on very short notice. He thoroughly enjoyed his stay and will most definitely be booking again. The best!!!”

“Madison took great care of my skittish fearful rescue beagle! Her dog was also great company for mine. I’m so happy to have found a great sitter. We’ll be booking again with Madison soon!”

“We were visiting the area and needed a sitter in a pinch. Cory responded within minutes and was ready to take Juno in that same day. His house sits in a wonderful wooded area and is perfect for dog walking. He took Juno in, introduced her to his dog and cats, sent pictures, took her for a walk. It was clear he has experience and he and his family genuinely love to take care of dogs! Juno was happy and calm when we picked her up. We were very lucky that we found Cory and definitely highly recommend him!”

About: Lifelong dog owner with decades of experience caring for dogs both big and small. I work from home and am able to provide maximum companionship and plenty of exercise. Boarders or daycare get 2-3 walks/day, dozens of photos, and lots of love of course! I provide toys, bowls, a dog bed, treats, poop bags and a backup leash. A tired dog is a good dog :) feel free to bring your pet’s crate if you’d like! I grew up with border collies and labs, then rescued my own dogs in adulthood. One of my rescues was a very sick 3-month old puppy that I raised, so I am well-versed with puppy care. I do not currently have pets living in the home, so your dogs will have the run of the place! I own my own home on a quiet circle street. My yard is an expansive quarter acre of grass with access to miles of mowed walking paths off my backyard. When a visit starts, I like to take the dogs on a “Welcome Walk” to get acquainted in neutral outdoor space. I prioritize safety and clear communication (with owners and dogs!) to create a comfortable experience for all. I look forward to taking care of your wonderful pets! I work from home, so I am flexible for drop-ins, last-minute needs, or regular walks, and can give your dog consistent companionship…and some fun of course! Rain or shine, I am happy to take them out. I provide a treats (if allowed), a dog bed, bowls, toys and backup leash (but I prefer you bring the leash your dog is familiar with!). Please feel free to bring a crate if you’d like to crate your dog! When a visit starts, I like to take the dogs on “Welcome Walk” where we get acquainted in the great outdoors. This allows me to build our bond in neutral space with plenty of positive stimulation for the dogs. I prioritize safety and clear communication (with owners and dogs!) to create a comfortable experience for all. I have used the clicker training method in the past, and do not believe in any form of domineering or physical correction. Your dog will have a stable experience here!
“Bertie was amazing! It was my first time using Rover as a pet owner, and I needed a sitter for the day while on vacation. My puppy is still fairly young and is very attached to me, but she appeared to settle in pretty quickly and have a great time with some other pups. Bertie stayed in touch while I was out, sending pics and updates, and even recommended some great local spots to check out. Super happy with this experience!”

“Paula is very responsible and attentive to your concerns about your pets wellbeing. Having had two really bad experiences here with my pet, I wish all sitters were like Paula. A responsible adult with good common sense looking after your pets wellbeing. On top of that she lives in a nice neighborhood with her own backyard.”
“We truly appreciate Brandy! We booked very last minute with brandy. Being on vacation we brought our epileptic pup and he wasn’t coping well in a new place being alone. So we downloaded this app for the first time and booked with her while we went out. She responded when I checked on him, and sent me pictures of him while he was with her. We are even booked an extra day with her while we were here because he did so well in her care! Thank you Brandy !!”

About: I’ve owned both dogs and cats and have cared for several family members’ pets for over 20 years! I’m a huge animal lover and miss having one of my own. I’m a stay-at-home-mom of 3 kids so I have plenty of time to walk and play! My schedule is extremely flexible and I’m available on weekends. I have an unfenced yard and live 20 feet from the Crozet trail system, right next to Claudius Crozet Park. We don’t have any pets of our own but my three kids (ages 4, 5 & 6) are very active and will play all day with your pet. My sister is a vet at Dominion Animal Hospital so I have immediate access to professional help if needed!
“Our little terrier, Maxine, is always well taken care of at Amy’s. Amy goes out of her way to ensure each dogs safety and tends to their individual needs. We know that Maxine is happy and well taken care of whenever she is with Amy and her fur babies.”

“Ms Emily was so wonderful and every welcoming to me and Leo!!! He had a ball thanks again ms Emily for your hospitality to me and Leo really appreciate it see you again soon ☺️☺️”

“Another great week with Dana! Oakley loves playing with Red and her nephew. Oakley is also being socialized with cats which is a huge plus. Oakley is always happy to be dropped off and tired from all the fun when I pick him up.”

“Athena had another amazing time with Svitlana at her home! They played in the backyard and met a new dog friend, which got Athena into the nap mode. Look forward to our next meeting!”

About: I have been surrounded by dogs since birth and wouldn't have it any other way. I'm happy to care for your dog's general wellbeing, as well as to spoil them in your absence! I am a work-from-home High School teacher, so I am available 24/7 to spoil your dog! We have an invisible fence, but I'll leash your dog for backyard adventures. We love hiking and neighborhood walks, which I can schedule for your pet, per your preferences. I have 2 dogs, who can be separated from yours, as needed. I have .5 acres, surrounded by an invisible fence. Leashes are used on all walks and a doggie seat belt will be used in the event that we need to travel by car.
“Sue is great with Amos. She is also fast to respond when asked a question and to scheduling requests. We were nervous leaving Amos in someone else’s care, Sue quickly put us at ease and Amos enjoyed his first daycare with her!”

“Will and Vannessa have been great. My corgi Milo is always excited when we pull up to their house. It is not easy to tire Milo out since he has a ton of puppy energy, but he always comes home happy and tired after playing with the hosts and their dogs all day.”

About: I’ve had a dog my entire life except for a few very lonely months in 2020 after I lost the love of my life, Romey, the naughtiest lab with the best sense of humor. I grew up with labs (mostly ) but now have Gizmo, a labrodoodle , who will soon become BDE (best dog ever) if he can finally learn how to not jump like a kangaroo when he sees his dog friends. I’ve taken care of dogs of every kind since I was young. I’d walk, feed and love on my neighbors and friends pets. I hope I will be the one you call and who you can trust with your furry BFF. Whether you have a long day at work or a weekend vacation, I’ll be there for you! I work part time on the weekends up on the mountain and have lots of time during the week to help out with your dog! I have a fenced in play area in my back yard and crates, dog beds and a designated “dog room” where your pet can relax in solitude or with Gizmo!

Reyna was everything we wanted and needed for our dog Tucker. We are in the area visiting family for Christmas and planned to spend the day in Charlottesville. Reyna came to our rescue. She sent pictures and gave updates throughout the afternoon. We will definitely contact her again next time we need a dog sitter.

Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your Dooms commute.
If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.
Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
