I make sure pets are safe in the home, that they are maintained on a secure leash during walks, avoid encounters with other dogs/animals during walks, I check to make sure there is no access to items that could harm them, and pay attention to overall general health. I believe for the most part the safest environment for a pet is in their own home where they are comfortable.
