About: I’m a lifetime dog owner who has over 10 years experience walking, feeding, and caring for dogs, and I’m a great pet playmate! I have had a variety of dogs of my own including golden retrievers, black labs, and border collies making me aware of the needs of different dogs. I am able to keep up with highly active dogs of any size and any age including if they have anxiety or need special attention. I am a seasonal conservation worker currently in an off period. I have full availability to care for pets all days of the week until I leave for my next job later in the summer. I have the ability to deal with a variety of dog personalities, I easily adapt. I am very comfortable being outside with pets and I have experience walking dogs in variety of environments and with walking more than one dog at once. At home with my dogs, I do daily walks and playtime, along with feeding. My dog Skye has anxiety and this requires certain care for me due to her having different triggers. This has given me the skill set of aiding and recognizing signs of anxiety.
“Lily is a wonderful pet sitter. She’s easy to work with and flexible and caring. I have a 12 year old dog and a young rambunctious Aussie, and Lily can handle both of them. She is also a “cat person” so my kitty is in good hands with Lily.”

“Adriana was wonderful! This was our first time using Rover and in home pet sitting. Adriana gave us regular updates and photos of Khloe. We are so thankful for the great care Khloe received while we were away, and Adriana also kept our home exceptionally clean!”

“Recently, Cinthia watched our seven year old retriever, Maya. I could not have asked for a better experience and if Maya could talk, I’m sure she would say the same. Cinthia made sure that Maya felt at home while we were away, walked her, cleaned up after her, and played with her. I could tell when I got home that Maya really enjoyed it by how mellow she was. The house was also in fantastic shape as well. We are very happy that she and we crossed paths and are looking forward to using her again?”

About: I've been a devoted dog mom on and off since 1998 and truly love caring for and walking our furry companions. While I'm currently taking a short break from having my own pup, my love for animals hasn't changed. I live alone and genuinely enjoy spending time with dogs, and I'm excited to support other pet parents through reliable pet sitting and attentive dog walking. Every pet I care for is treated like family. I work full-time Monday through Fridays. 830-5pm. Would be available to check in and walk your pups on the lunch hour and evenings and free most weekends. I provide a safe, calm, and loving environment for every pet in my care. I live in a spacious townhome on a quiet dead-end street. Perfect for peaceful walks. I'm also close to a lake with beautiful walking paths for longer, relaxing outings. I'm available for in-home stays and house sitting, and since I live alone with no pets or children, I'm able to give each dog my full attention and care. Your pet's safety, comfort, and happiness are always my top priorities.
“Dan loves dogs and took good care of our Effie. He kept us updated on Effie’s condition who was recovering from an illness. He took good care of our home and everything was in order when we returned.”

I can do overnights or I can do check ins. I have a bit of a green thumb so I can also care for any plants! I of course will be respectful of your home clean up after the animals and myself.

About: I have a German Shepherd and walk him every night around Canandaigua. He loves adventures and it is quite clear that dogs love to travel. I love to make sure they are having fun and are being stimulated. Dogs are so smart. It is fun to interact and treat them like friends. I am available all the time and have experience taking my neighbor's dogs out once a day as she was away at work. This was a truly fun experience and has compelled me to seek out more opportunities like that. I wish to meet more dogs and like-minded people who appreciate how dogs provide unconditional love whether you are having a good day or a bad one. Endlessly, they love. It is beautiful.

About: Hello! My name is Jahlea and I have always had animals in my house, those with and without fur, including fish, axolotls, hamsters, guinea pigs, a medium-sized terrier mix rescue dog and 2 large labradors. I have cared for and have loved my pets with all of my heart and I plan to do the same for your big and little ones as well. I have over 12 years of experience caring for various animals including bunnies, bearded dragons, dogs, cats, and fish. My specialty is caring for dogs and cats including those that are needing medicine (by injection or pill), are seniors, or have special needs. I am also a frequent petsitter for foster dogs so I have lots of experience with dogs that have emotional and behavioral issues and the patience and care it takes while they learn what it means to be loved again. I look forward to setting up a meet and greet with you and your furry friends! I will make sure that your pets feel comfortable and safe just as you would and I cant wait to give them lots of love!

Dan has a real connection with our 2 kids! We got home and both kids real calm looked great and house was all clean. He even watered plants for us. He showed up on time and didnt leave until we were on our way home. He also communicated well and sent pictures every day. We highly recommend Dan and will use him in the future!
Richard cared for our 16 year old cat that has chronic health issues. Our cat takes several medications twice a day and eats a prescription diet. He did a great job, was very responsive, responsible and would contact me if he had a question. We felt like we left our cat and home in good hands. I will hire Richard again in the future when we need someone to look after our cat.

Gillian was an excellent pet/ house sitter for our 2 dogs! She was on time and communicated at least once a day with pictures during our trip. Our dogs loved being with her and they were calm when we got home and took great care of our house. Gillian walked our kids at least 2x a day in the neighborhood with care. She was very meticulous about following our instructions and guidelines for the dogs. Our home was very neat and tidy when we got home! We are hoping to have her sit for us again soon.
Alicia was wonderful! She took great care of our home and sweet boy, Remy. She did an outstanding job caring for our dog. He was happy upon our return & you could tell he was well loved while we were away. We will certainly be calling Alicia for any future needs caring for our dog & home.

Mackenzie is an intelligent and compassionate young lady. Very easy to talk with and one who understands the task at hand. We had a death in the family and an immediate need for help with our pets. She went above and beyond sending us pictures of our pets and little notes while we were away putting us at ease. We will gladly hire her in the future.

FAQs for House Sitting - Canandaigua
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Canandaigua on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of June 2026, there are 491 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Canandaigua. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Canandaigua walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Canandaigua maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Canandaigua choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Canandaigua. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
