About: I've always been a "dog person" and my family always had dogs when I was young. They have been mysteriously important to me, but I didn't understand why until I got my first puppy Atlas; my entire perspective on dogs, humans, and how we live with them has changed! I've been so affected by this that I'm considering becoming a professional trainer and Rover is my 2nd (or 3rd?) step in that direction. I'm now obsessed with learning about their behavior, communication, teaching techniques etc. and I've been studying daily since he arrived in our lives last year. I consider almost every moment a learning opportunity for us and them! If house-sitting, I'm happy to take care of plants/gardens as a trained horticulturist, and I'm also a mycologist, so I am teaching my pup to find mushrooms. "Scent work" is so cool! I'm the go-to pet sitter for my friends when they travel and I'm the trusted coparent of Nori - sometimes for months at a time - the Kelpie/Terrier pictured in my profile. In short, I think pet care and "training" is going on 100% of the time as our animal friends watch us and their environment and make their associations. So "pet care" is something I'm trying to always attune towards. I exercise/walk/run/play/teach with Atlas every morning and afternoon before/after the days we go to my very flexible job on 220 acres in Occidental (usually T, W & Th.) Atlas usually comes with me and gets to be outside almost full time and there is a pool for hot days. Friday - Monday I work from home. On these days we do our morning thing, and usually 2-4 other outings throughout the day: car rides, parks, Dillon Beach, etc. I'm big on focused exercise/teaching and then rest alternating through the day. I care for pets by listening to their body language and watching for their communication signals (to me and their environment) with the highest priorities being comfort, happiness, trust and safety. And I'm happy to shape-shift to whatever style, skills, requirements you have found to be most effective for your pets. That said, I generally don't like pain-based or coercion/dominance styles of teaching, however this does not mean I won't set boundaries! I am most interested in listening to our animal friends and having a loving/cooperative relationship. I am regularly asked if I'm a professional trainer because of how I am with my puppy, but I just started my journey into that title! I think having a pet, especially a dog, is such a huge gift and responsibility, and I'm always trying to remain in integrity around this and honor them and how amazing they are!

About: Hello, we are Peter & Shannon. We have both had pets throughout our lives and, over the past decade +, have taken care of own dogs and others' dogs in all stages of life. From puppies to seniors with special needs, we know that every dog is special and we aim to provide care, affection, and play to is unique to each dogs ability and preferences. We are comfortable providing medications and incorporating any medical necessities into our daily routine as needed. We do not have children and our dogs (and yours) are absolutely our babies. Currently have one dog, Violet, a very friendly and outgoing doodle who loves meeting and playing with new friends. Violet is quite intuitive and has shown gentleness with more senior or less energetic dogs but she also can "turn it on" and play, play, play with those who are interested. We recently lost our 10 year old labrador, Charley, to cancer and have so much extra love to give to your fur baby. Peter and I mostly work from home so your dog will have both human and canine companionship the majority of the time during their stay with us. When we both venture out, we are not typically gone for more than 4-5 hours. We go on daily walks and frequent excursions with Violet and can easily accommodate the routine needs of your dog(s) as well. Our home is clean is comfortable with lots of dog beds (although you are more than welcome to bring your own) and toys for playing. We do allow dogs on our furniture but, of course, will ensure that we enforce any of your home rules as preferred. We have a fully fenced back yard which we love to spend lots of time in when the weather is nice and we enjoy taking lots of adventures to the Russian River, the beach, and local parks.

“It started out as a week stay with Bernadette, but I had an emergency and needed to extend a week, then I needed to go in for an emergency surgery- so I needed her help for another week. Three weeks from the day I dropped off my doggie and She helped me with something that could have been extremely difficult. I am so grateful for Bernadette. She is an animal person and it shows.
