Pet Policy
Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- Pets are not allowed in the main cabin, except service dogs. Generally, in-cabin crates should be soft-sided and fit under the plane seat in front of you.
- Pets allowed in baggage hold: dogs and cats. Travelers can check-in and pick up their pet at passenger terminals for their flight’s departure and arrival airports. The pet will be loaded in an aircraft hold just beneath the passenger cabin where it will be in a temperature-controlled environment. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- International policy: Pets are not allowed in baggage hold on the following flights.
- Flights to Auckland, Denpasar, Dubai, Hong Kong, and London.
- Flights to and from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
- Flights operated on aircraft A320.
- Restricted brachycephalic breeds: American bulldog/bully, American Staffordshire terrier, American pit bull Terrier, Boston terrier, boxer, Brussels griffon, bulldog, Chinese pug, chow chow, Dutch pug, English bulldog, English toy spaniel, French bulldog, Lhasa apso, Japanese boxer, Japanese pug, Japanese spaniel (Chin), mastiff (all breeds), Pekinese, pit bull, pug, shar pei, shih tzu, and Staffordshire bull terrier. NOTE: Brachycephalic breeds are those with a shortened head and nose, and flat face. They typically have trouble breathing, which flying can then exacerbate.
