Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- International policy: Pets are not accepted for travel on any international flight, except service animals.
- Pets are not allowed in the baggage hold for travel at any time.
- Birds and rabbits are not accepted for travel to or from Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I.
- Pets allowed in main cabin: domestic dogs, domestic cats, small household birds, and small domestic rabbits.
- The dimensions of the container must not exceed 18 x 14 x 9 inches, and must be able to fit under the seat.
- A maximum of 2 pets per container is permitted, but only one container per guest is allowed.
- Animals must be able to stand upright and move about comfortably in the container.
- The combined weight of the pet and carrier may not exceed 40 pounds (18.14 kg).
- Pets must be at least eight weeks old to travel.
Note that Spirit allows only six pet containers per flight on all domestic flights, so it’s best to book as early as possible. Guests traveling with pets will need to check-in at the ticket counter. Please allow extra time beyond normal check-in guidelines.
