Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- Pets are not allowed in the main cabin, except service dogs.
- Pets allowed in baggage hold: Cats and dogs at selected airports. Pets must weigh less than 32kg. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- Pet must be at least three months old to travel.
- International policy: Pets cannot be transported on the below flights.
- Into/out of Australia
- Into/out of Brunei
- Into/out of Denpasar, Bali
- Into/out of Germany
- Into/out of New Zealand
- Into/out of South Africa
- Into Dubai
- Into Hong Kong SAR
- Into the United Kingdom.
- Prohibited dog breeds:
- Akita
- Boerboel
- Boxer
- Brussels griffon (petit brabancon)
- Chow chow
- Dogo Argentino
- English, French and American bulldogs
- Fila Brasileiro
- Japanese chin (Japanese spaniels)
- Lhasa apso
- Mastiffs, including Neapolitan and dogue de Bordeaux
- Perro de Presa Canario
- Pit bull
- Pugs, including carlino, mopshond, mops hund and Pekingese
- Shar-pei
- Shih tzu
- English toy, King Charles and Tibetan Spaniels
- Boston and pit bull terriers
- Tosa
Additional tips for day of departure:
- Make sure your pet is in good health and fit for travel.
- Make sure your pet is well fed and hydrated.
- Place a favorite toy or treat inside the container to keep your pet happy.
- Mark your pet’s name on the outside of their container.
