Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- International policy: All animals traveling to the United Kingdom or Ireland must be transported with Icelandair cargo. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- No pets are allowed to travel in the main cabin, except service dogs.
- Pets allowed in the baggage hold: dogs and cats.
- Maximum layover time at Keflavik Airport for passengers with animals is three hours.
- All live animals entering Iceland are quarantined for four weeks.
- Animals traveling in the cabin will not be accepted for one-way travel if the passenger holds a return ticket.
- The only service or emotional support animal allowed in the cabin of Icelandair flights are dogs.
- Restricted breeds: pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, tosa inu and dogo Argentino.
- A maximum of one service or emotional support animal can be carried in cabin of each aircraft.
