Pet Policy
Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- Pets are not allowed to travel in the main cabin, except service dogs.
- Acceptable pets are dogs and cats.
- For flights out of Hong Kong, pets can travel as checked baggage.
- For flights into Hong Kong, pets must travel in cargo. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- Brachycephalic dogs and cats are not accepted for travel. Brachycephalic breeds are those with a shortened head and nose and flat face such as pugs, shih tzus, and Chihuahuas. They typically have trouble breathing, which flying can exacerbate.
- Additional restricted breeds: fighting breeds such as the American pit bull, American Staffordshire terrier, Dogo Argentina, Fila Brasiliera, and Japanese tosa.
- Contact your local reservations office at least 48 hours before your flight to confirm your pet’s place on board and provide the total weight of the pet and their container; the dimensions, material, and make of the container; and valid health and vaccination certificates, entry permits, and other documents that are required by the country of entry or transit.
