Pet Policy
Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- Pets allowed in the main cabin: dogs, cats, birds (except birds of prey), fish, aquarium turtles, and some rodents (hamsters, guinea pigs or small rabbits). Generally, in-cabin crates should be soft-sided and fit under the plane seat in front of you.
- Pets allowed in the baggage hold: amphibians, insects, crustaceans, reptiles (except aquarium turtles), rodents (other than hamsters, guinea pigs, and small rabbits), ferrets, and some breeds of dogs. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- Brachycephalic dogs and cats not exceeding 8kg including their container are allowed in the main cabin but not in the baggage hold. Brachycephalic breeds are those with a shortened head and nose and flat face such as pugs, shih tzus, and Chihuahuas. They typically have trouble breathing, which flying can exacerbate.
- Pets are not allowed for transport to or from the UK.
