Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- Pets are allowed to travel on flights under six hours.
- Pets are allowed within Mexico and to/from the USA, Canada, and Central America if traveling in the main cabin. Generally, in-cabin crates should be soft-sided and fit under the plane seat in front of you.
- Pets traveling in the baggage hold cannot weigh more than 100 lbs including the carrier. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- Pets allowed in baggage hold: dogs, cats, and chickens.
- Pet must be older than 16 weeks to travel.
- Rabies vaccination certificate is required (issued at least 28 days before travel).
- Health certificate issued by the Import/Export Deputy Director’s office required, except for USA and Canada.
- Unaccompanied minors are not allowed to travel with pets.
- Pets undergoing medical treatment are not allowed.
- Only one pet per passenger maximum.
