Rules and restrictions
Be sure to review this information before your trip and plan accordingly. And remember that all airlines have different restrictions, so read each airline’s rules before you book a new trip.
- Pets allowed in the main cabin: Birds whose weight together with the cage/skipper does not exceed 8kg.
- Brachycephalic dog breeds are restricted. Brachycephalic breeds are those with a shortened head and nose and flat face such as pugs, shih tzus, and Chihuahuas. They typically have trouble breathing, which flying can exacerbate.
- Pets allowed in the baggage hold:
- Cats, dogs, and birds. For cargo crates, the ASPCA says that crates should be large enough for your pet to sit, stand, and turn around in.
- Polecats, ferrets, meerkats, fennec foxes, lorises, hedgehogs, rabbits, marmosets, etc. can travel in the baggage hold if they are tamed.
- Only adult and legally capable passengers are allowed to transport domestic animals or birds.
