About: I have experience caring for dogs, cats, small mammals, horses, fish, and some reptiles. I am an animal lover through and through, so whatever kind of pet you have, I promise to care for them as if they were my own. I am great at following instructions, so even if it is a new type of critter I haven't met before, I will provide care exactly as you direct. I have extensive experience with senior dogs, diabetes management, blind and/or deaf animals, and other medical care. I am not deterred by special needs animals. If you can show me how to perform the necessary tasks, I can do them. I will ensure that your babies get their special diet, their meds (pills or injections), their specific bedtime routine, or even just their exact required number of belly rubs and forehead kisses to keep their routine as steady as possible. I love sending photos and updates so that you know your pet is happy and healthy while you are away. Looking forward to meeting you and your pet! I work fulltime Mon-Fri. I can visit before I go to work in the mornings, anytime during evenings and weekends, and I can do midday check-ins for a quick potty break or medications on my lunch break. I am currently only offering services in the client's home. I will care for your pet carefully according to your instructions and will be respectful of your home and privacy. I will make sure everything is locked up behind me before leaving and if you want me to turn the porch light on at night or bring in your mail, etc. just let me know!
“Karrie was fantastic! She stayed in our home, which helped our dogs feel comfortable and relaxed right away. She kept them on their usual routine, so we never had to worry while we were away. She was also a wonderful house guest and even washed dishes and bedding before she left. We couldn't have asked for better care and will definitely be booking with her again!”

“Fabulous!!! First time hiring Jenna to house sit and pet sit (4 big dogs and 2 cats). She was great with the animals and went above and beyond to keep the house clean. Would definitely recommend her to anyone! She was great and our pets were very comfortable and happy!”

“Jenna was great. Super communicative, very attentive during the meet and greet, and sent regular updates for both my pets. I would definitely have her house sit again!”

“Jennifer goes above and beyond, helps with watering the plants as well as making our little lady feel loved and safe while we are away. It’s hard being away from our dog while we are traveling but we know Ilsa is having a great time without us because she’s with Jennifer.”

About: I’ve had dogs all my life and it seemed the family dogs always gravitated toward me. I can’t imagine life without them! I’ve been caring for other’s dogs ever since I got my drivers license. The first dog I watched for a family (a beautiful Alaskan husky) had diabetes and required diabetic shots twice a day. Even though it hurt to have to give him shots, I loved having the opportunity to care for dogs other than my own. Since then I’ve had the opportunity of being the go-to dog watcher for several families with several different dog (and cat) breeds. I will make every effort to give your dog the same care that I was able to give Skyler and the rest of the dogs I’ve had the great fortune of watching and taking care of. There’s not many things that give me more joy than spending time with dogs. Now that I have more time on my hands in my 30’s I have recently gotten connected with volunteering with KC Pet Project. Dogs deserve all the love in the world. I currently work from home Monday and Friday so in addition to the weekend, it opens up availability to be present for the doggie. I’m in the office Tuesday - Thursday but available for morning/evening and quick bathroom breaks over lunch. I have a fenced in backyard and ample space inside the house to make your dog comfortable. I can crate if needed, but also have rooms that can function as “dog” rooms for the periods when I need to leave the house. I have my own Belgian Malinois, who mostly does her own thing. :)

“I’m so thankful for Erika! I was nervous about leaving our 14 year old cocker spaniel Sophie for a week long trip. Erika was conscientious, communicative, flexible, professional, kind, trustworthy, mature, and responsible! She really loves animals. I can’t recommend her highly enough. When we returned home, Sophie was peaceful and content, calm and happy. Thank you, Erika, for making our vacation enjoyable by taking such good care of Sophie and our home.”

“This is the third time we’ve had Pamela stay with our pups. I can’t say enough good things about her. Our fur babies are always cared for as if they belong to her, and she leaves our house in excellent condition!”

“Virginia was awesome and took care of our pups while we were away for a week. House was left very clean and she even took care of some of my mail that was delivered throughout the week. She asked appropriate questions and double checked anything that was not clear with our instructions. She was very knowledgeable and you can tell she is passionate about her job while pet sitting. I can't think of anything that would have made this a better experience. I will certainly use her again in the future.”

“Lauren is amazing! She communicated regularly and sent pictures to us throughout our vacation. Our dog was well cared for and happy when we got home. We will absolutely book with Lauren again and recommend her to our friends!”

“Excellent sitter for my 8 year old and 2 1 year old Rottweiler puppies. Mya is a loving and compassionate person. She followed my special instructions to the tee and was especially great with my youngest puppy with epilepsy as one of the 7 dogs in her own household also has epilepsy. I couldn't have asked for a better person than Mya for my last minute booking while I had surgery. Will definitely use her repeatedly! Highly recommend.”

About: I have raised dogs and cats through out my life, I currently have a rescue Shih Tzu named Gizmo who is nine years old and is great with other dogs. I’ve worked at a dog training kennel and I’ve worked in an animal shelter previously so I have experience with all breeds and temperaments as well as years of professional dog walking and pet sitting. I’m getting ready to go to school for dog grooming to add to my pet care skills and would love to take care of your pets to help make money for school! I will give your fur babies the love, care and attention they deserve. I also have experience administering medications including pills and insulin shots. I work short days outside my home starting early in the morning, but my partner works from home so your dog wouldn’t be left alone if you board with me! I’m available for in home visits or walks as well. We have a rescue Shih Tzu who is 9 years old and loves the company of other dogs, she’s not big on playing but she’s all about the snuggles and naps. I cater my care to each individual dog and am happy to discuss your pets needs. If you board with me your dog will get frequent walks and as much exercise as you request, we live in an apartment so I would be taking them out on a leash to walk around the neighborhood; we also have a fenced area specifically for letting dogs run around and play if that’s what you prefer. I am happy to crate them if you’d like or let them sleep in one of my dogs many beds, she sleeps in bed with us so she won’t mind! If I’m coming to your house I can follow any instructions you have for walking/ feeding/ administering medication I’ve done many walks and home visits for pet owners over the years, and my experience in animal shelters and dog training facilities had given me a lot of knowledge about dog behavior and needs.
About: I loved animals ever since I was a kid and raised and trained my dog Zephyr since he was a year old. I adore all animals care for two rodents of my own named Orchid and Meadow. I often petsit for my family and friends and have taken care of a wide variety of animals. I've taken care of pets of all ages from puppies to my senior dog who currently has from dementia. I am very patient and licensed CNA so I know how to handle a mess. I am a freshman in college though my classes are very light. I'm free after 9am on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays I'm free after 12:15 though I can come in earlier anytime before 9, Fridays can vary for me but I'm typically free after 9-10 am though sometimes if I have an exam it might be an hour or so later though I can always make arrangements if necessary. I care for pets by following their routine, spending lots of time with them, and making sure they feel safe and comfortable while their owners are away. I’m respectful of my client's homes and always clean up after the pets and leave everything as I found it. I After a procedure my dog needed to be crate trained so I know how to handle that.
“Julia took excellent care of our girl. We made a last minute request for Julia to extend her stay and she was kind enough to accommodate. I would definitely recommend Julia for your pet sitting needs.”

“I’ve had trouble finding someone on Rover who is reliable and gives excellent service. After trying many others, we have finally found an amazing rover sitter!!! She is far and away the best I’ve found since using Rover since 2019. I hope we can use her services for a long time to come!”

“Hailey was amazing! We were gone for a full week and she took such great care of our girls. One of our pups had some stomach issues. She took time to pick her up from the vet, get additional meds and help our sweet girl. We were so lucky to have her!”
“She was great with the animals even with our lengthy instructions. Took very good care of our house and sent pictures everyday with updates of what they were doing. Definitely recommend using her!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 1,504 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Birmingham. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Birmingham walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Birmingham maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Birmingham choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Birmingham. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
