About: I’ve had dogs as pets since I was a baby. I have two chihuahuas that are 10 and 11 years old. I’ve had them since they were 8 weeks old and they are my babies. They are so spoiled and loved and my whole world. I’m currently taking a break from my full time job. My day depends on what I have scheduled, it’s very fluid and open. I start my day by scooping the cat litter box, letting my dogs outside to potty, taking care of and feeding my beta fish, opening windows and watering plants, and then making meals for my two cats and two dogs. I am at home majority of my day and spend a lot of time with my animals. I walk my two dogs everyday and make them meals. I brush my two cats everyday and give them enrichment activities. I spend the day cuddling with my dogs too. At my clients home, I would follow the directions provided to me as well as using my own discretion when necessary to provide the ultimate care. Your pets will be treated and loved like they are my own.

“This is my first time using Rover. Hortensia arranged a meeting a few days prior to us entrusting our dog, Honey, to her care. During this meeting, she showed us her home and yard, where the dogs typically relax. Honey quickly settled in and appeared quite comfortable. Hortensia provided excellent care for Honey and followed all the instructions we provided. We will most certainly reach out to her again for future pet care needs for Honey. Thank you Hortensia!”

About: What makes me different is my hands on experience with animals of all ages and temperaments from playful puppies to wise senior pets. Plus, I’m reliable, detail-oriented, and genuinely passionate about animal welfare. Your pet’s comfort and happiness are my top priorities! I’m currently a college student half the day so I can have fun with your furry friends when you need me, I’m available on the weekends and most mornings on the weekdays I have a fence yard so your dog/dogs can play outside and for cats I have two cats, so friendly, I have toys for them too
“Paws on Puente is out go to for our pup’s boarding and daycare! We always feel so at ease when our pup is under the care of Cher and Gil. My pup gets a ton of socialization and comes home exhausted. We love Paws on Puente”

“Steve is an excellent dog sitter, would highly recommend. He’s well versed in dog caretaking and went above and beyond keeping us updated throughout the day. Drop off and pick up was seamless, our dog was so happy at the end of the day. Zero stress! Absolutely will ask Steve to dog sit again!”

“Lisa and her husband are AMAZING! They were so flexible which was a huge help when our plans changed. They were responsive, considerate, friendly and sent photos of our puppy having fun. Very grateful!”

“Stephanie is a complete gem! She and her beautiful family were absolutely wonderful! The children were so gentle, calm, respectful, and VERY accustomed to being around animals, dogs in particular. We (and Piper) were put at ease immediately. We will certainly be scheduling with her again! ♥️”

“Reeti and her family watched Sparky at their home daily for a week. I dropped sparky off in the morning and Picked him up in the evening and Reeti was annle to accommodate my early morning drop off time. I was worried because Sparky is wary about people outside the family and he became comfortable from the first day he stayed and it was great! Reeti sent photos that eased my mind and took sparky on walks and he now loves Reeti, her husband and children! I booked additional drop off and pick ups with her and now Sparky runs into their house without even looking back at me! He is so happy to be dropped off that I am beyond thankful and grateful for Reeti’s family for taking care of Sparky!”

“Jaycee and Brendan are a super sweet couple, and were very welcoming to Louis and me. I felt very comfortable leaving Louis with them, and sure enough he was in good hands with them. Will absolutely use them again when needed. Thank you Jaycee and Brendan, appreciate both of you!”

“Weilin treated Honey like a star and deserves all the stars! I would highly recommend as you know your pet will be in good hands and she sends updates too. Thank you!!”

“My girl Luna loves other dogs but is nervous around new people. Ronald was very patient with her, and his two dogs got along well with Luna. She was a happy and healthy dog when I picked her up. He also sent pictures of Luna throughout the day, and you can tell she enjoyed herself. Ronald has a big, fenced back yard for dogs to play. Definitely recommend!”

“Alessandra took great care of my dog while I was at work today. I appreciated her flexibility when I booked on short notice. I have confidence Sansa will be well taken care of when she stays with her during our upcoming vacation.”

Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your Vernalis commute.
If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.
Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in CA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, Rover is well-suited for finding sitters who can care for your pet within 24 hours. With 570 sitters in Vernalis, 88% respond to messages in under an hour.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
