About: I have over 13 years experience doing vet assistant and vet technician tasks and skills as a volunteer at The Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge, IL. I have been employed as part of the membership and philanthropic department at Lincoln Park Zoo from which I learned a great deal, stemming from my biology classes on taxonomy to zoology, to specific animal facts and conservation of threatened animals. I therefore know a great deal of educational background on animal behavior. I studied psychology and comparitive human psychology/animal behavior with a bachelors in science from IIT. I have grown up with dogs, cats, and ferrets. At Southwest Animal Care Center, I bathed, fed, walked, medicated, and cared for boarding and patient animals. I graduated with my veterinary assistant certificate in 2018. After graduating from IIT, I became a kennel attendant and learned a great deal about how to care for animals. Pet care is a daily task for me as I take care for two little fuzzbutt ferrets, Icarus and Agatha. Icarus often wakes me up with his bushy tailed excitement. I'm lucky to have such wonderful critters in my life. Right now, I am only offering dog walking and off-site at client's home services. From what I've read from the anthropologist book "Inside of a Dog" by Alexandra Horowitz, animals, especially dogs, crave human attention so being attentive to an animal's needs is to me, what's most important. This includes communicating with animals to know when they need a bathroom break, when they want play, when they want affection and cuddles, when they want nappy time, being fed according to what their schedule is, and of course, offering healthy treats (if allowed) and new novel smells, toys, etc. I can manage 4-5 walks per day with one or multiple dogs at a time 5-6 days a week. This is my main job and I'm dedicated to providing top care as if they are my own. I take extra care to be a courteous and contentious guest in the owner's home. I had a dog everyday of my life until five years ago when my 200 pound English Mastiff named Max died. It broke my heart and hasn't felt right to replace him. But I love dogs and cherish watching the relationship people have with their dogs. I say hi to every pooch on the street that I pass. I have a very flexible work from home schedule so I am home all day. I have plenty of time for play time and walks! About: I’ve lived around animals since I was a little girl and have owned a diverse range of pets myself. I grew up caring for my Hungarian Vizsla into college as well, even while he got sick and eventually had to be put down. I have experience owning rabbits, gerbils, dogs, cats. I live with three sweet cats now with my boyfriend and his mother, I’m home most of the time taking care of them. I do however now work a part time retail job that doesn’t have a fixed schedule, so I will have to work bookings around it. Our cats are kept inside most of the time but we do have a yard with a fence that allows them to be outside supervised. If the weather allows for it, we let them out to get exercise in and just have some stimulation. We have to feed them separately as one cat likes to try to steal food from the other. They’re both on their diets to lose some weight so feeding times are in order now for them.

I love working smaller pets, as I have a chihuahua myself, but I’m happy to work with bigger dogs as I’m 6’4- so a big guy myself! I enjoy playing with, walking, feeding, and spending time with your pets. I also will make sure to take the time to build trust with your pets- I’m happy to cater to each pets individual needs. I am available everyday from the hours of 2pm-10pm, I can walk or house sit your pet multiple times a day within these hours, and am happy to accommodate your needs. I have a dog, a little chihuahua named Minnie, and calico cat named Kiki! They are both very different, but I love them both the same. Minnie is a big foodie, and I often have to protect my food from her :). I enjoy cuddling, walking, and giving her lots of treats. Kiki is a bit more stand offish, so I give her space- but when shes ready to play I make sure I am too!

“Barbara was truly amazing. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with her. She cared for my two puppies — a high-energy 4-month-old German Shepherd and a spirited 7-month-old Yorkie — for the weekend, and she handled them both with so much grace, patience, and genuine love. From the moment we met her, I could tell my dogs were instantly comfortable. The way they interacted with her said everything — she truly loves dogs, and dogs adore her right back. Her communication was excellent throughout the entire stay, and I always felt confident they were in the very best hands. We previously had a not-so-positive Rover experience where the dogs came back timid and not themselves, so we were understandably nervous trying again. Barbara completely changed that. My pups were happy, energetic, and their normal selves when we picked them up — which told me they were not only well cared for, but genuinely enjoyed their time with her. I’m so grateful we found Barbara. She exceeded every expectation and gave us such peace of mind. We will absolutely be booking with her again! Highly, highly recommend!”

“Susseth always takes such great care of Zion! He’s a silly, goofy, and entering his adolescent teenage phase of puppyhood and she doesn’t blink at his boundary pushing ways. Zion loves going and (not so secretly) hates coming home at the end of his stay. I cannot say enough good things about Susseth and the care she takes. 15/10 always recommend!”
