“Amadie was amazing! She cared for two of our dogs on a very hot day for three hours. She was prompt, thoughtful, sent great photos, and communicated very clearly. The pups were happy and tired after the time together. Who can ask for more than that? We will definitely book her again!”

“Jordan watched our dog Sam. This was my first time actually leaving him behind but Sam had such a great time with Jordan. Jordan was so great at sending pictures and videos. I can't wait for Jordan to come back and watch Sam for us again so trustworthy!!”

About: Dog mom for the past 8 years and recently lost my girl to cancer. I'd be happy to love on your pup while you're away! I'm a full time teacher so only available for pet care on weekends and breaks during the school year but have full availability in summer. I love having dogs in my house where they can have their own bedroom space or share my room. 1.9 acres next to the rail trail means lots of walks and time spent outside. I also love helping pets work on their manners and good training habits and am happy to help dogs with specific behavior challenges or needs.
“We had a great experience with Rachael! She was able to accommodate our last-minute request, was incredibly flexible with timing, and made the entire process stress-free. Most importantly, we felt completely confident that our puppy, Zeke, and cat, Ophie, were in excellent hands. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing they were being well cared for while we were away. We would happily book with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter.”

“Emily exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I met Emily, I could tell that she had a genuine love for dogs. She was friendly, caring, and asked all the right questions to ensure she could provide the best care possible for my pups. During the time that I was away, Emily kept me updated with daily messages and photos, which made me feel so much better knowing that my dogs were in good hands. When I returned home, my dogs were relaxed and happy, which was a clear indication that they had been well-cared for during my absence. I was impressed by the level of attention and care that Emily had provided, from feeding my dog on time to taking him for regular walks and giving him plenty of love and affection. I would highly recommend Emily to anyone who is looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter. Her love for dogs is evident in the way she treats them, and she is incredibly responsible and attentive to their needs. I have already booked her for my next trip, and I know that my dogs are in the best hands possible with Emily. Thank you, Emily, for taking such great care of my dogs!”

“Julisa was wonderful - she stayed in frequent contact, sent pictures and, when our rascal of a dog breached the fence and ran off, she immediately got on the phone with me and we tracked him down at a neighbor’s house. I know what a terrible feeling that is when watching someone else’s furry babies and Julisa handled it so well.”

“Sarah was great! She took the time to meet with me ahead of time to review Lucy's special needs. She even did research ahead of time so she would be familiar with her disorder. She arrived on time and communicated quickly every time I reached out. Lucy seemed very happy upon my return. She helped keep the house in order and even watered my plants. She is extremely kind and caring. I have fully confidence in leaving Lucy in her care. I will definitely continue to request Sarah as I need assistance.”

“What a dear person. Nadine is a natural with knowledge and a love of animals. She showed great judgement, and was kind enough to let me know when our cat was in for the night. She was thoughtful, and clearly is great with animals. Our cat was thoroughly in love.”
“Amanda was AMAZING for our house sitting booking. She took such good care of our pitbull and cat. She really connects with animals and they absolutely love her. Our cat, who normally hates strangers and always hides, was curled up on her lap by the first night. We will definitely be booking her again!”

“Haley did a great job taking care of our cats while we are away. One our cats got sick while we were away and she provided us with details updates and pictures to make sure we knew what was going on.”

“Kayla was fantastic! She helped me in short notice and stayed at my place. I got updates on my dog and how he was doing, and she was very communicative regarding her schedule in tandem with my dog’s. She also happened to be at my place when there was an issue with a leak, and if it wasn’t for her quick response to me then I would’ve come home to a huge mess. She cares about you and your companion(s)! Thank you for being compassionate and respectful, Kayla!”

“Kaeleen watched our dog Sadie and cat Mac for a week. She took great care of them. She provided updates and sent pictures. She was respectful to our home. I would recommend her for anyone looking for a great in-house sitter!”

“Julie is THE VERY BEST! We have three older dogs who can be challenging. She gave them such loving attention and care. Julie always kept us abreast of their status with updates and photos. When we got home, our dogs were happy to see us, but they didn’t seem as jubilant as they normally do. THAT’S A TESTAMENT to Julie. THEY LOVED HER!!! And that’s what every family should want for their pups. Have no reservations about hiring Julie. We will be using her services again in the future. Thank you, Julie!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 338 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Troy. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Troy walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Troy maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Troy choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Troy. On Rover:
- 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
