“Excellent boarding location. Will use again anytime we are going out of town and can’t take the pups. Daily updates with pictures and our dogs definitely enjoyed their stay. We were able to enjoy our time away knowing our fur babies were in good hands…”

“I’ve honestly lost count of how many times Jaxon has stayed with Crystal, and that says it all! She is absolutely amazing. Jaxon always comes home calm, happy, and relaxed, like he’s been on a little doggy vacation. 😊 Crystal genuinely loves and cares for him, and that peace of mind is priceless. She communicates well, treats Jaxon like family, and is someone I trust completely. I couldn’t recommend her more highly! 💕”

“We are so happy our dog was with Robin during our getaway! She was nicely cared for and happy to be around her two pups. Robin is a very responsible pet caregiver, we highly recommend her services!”

“They took great care of our older dog. We could not have asked for a better first experience using Rover. Plenty of updates and we were able to relax and enjoy family vacation time knowing he was being well loved and cared for.”

“Monica and her family were fantastic! Their backyard is amazing! Our dog loved playing with their dogs and was fascinated with their other pets. Monica was great about sending updates and pictures throughout the week. Our dog couldn’t have been happier. We would definitely leave our dog with Monica and her family if we are in the Hampton Roads area again.”

“Dickson and Mily were great with my babies. I was nervous about leaving them with a bigger dog but they assured me that they knew their dog and that they'd all be playing in no time. Sure enough, after about an hour I was sent a video of my dogs getting along with theirs. The entire time I was gone I got many updates, videos and pictures; it looked like my dogs were on vacation! Dickson and Mily really love dogs and treated my dogs like family. They also picked them up and dropped them off which made my busy life so much easier!”

“Having NEVER left my puppies before, I was hesitant and nervous to do so. Shania eased my concerns from the very beginning. I was literally in contact with her multiple times before my puppies were even in her care. I'm happy to say, ALL WENT WELL!!! I highly recommend Shania and can't wait to use her services again.”

“Katherine was wonderful! I felt very comfortable leaving my dog with her right away. She also kept us updated with pictures and messages. My Rascal liked her a lot and did very well spending a few days with her family. Highly recommend and will hire her again the next time we need to leave him.”

“Renee was great, I can't say it enough. I'm happy I found her to take care of our two dogs. She was very flexible and treated them like her own. They loved her huge yard and had tons of playtime with other dogs. We will definitively have them stay with Renee for our next vacation.”
“Needed to find a new dog sitter and I contacted Lana after reading her wonderful reviews. She agreed to take care if my soiled rotten long haired doxie. He was welcomed into her home and treated like a member of the family. He cuddled and slept on their laps whenever they sat down and even got to sleep in their bed. I couldn't have been any happier with the care Lana gave to my baby.”

“Laurie was a fantastic sitter for Loki. Right away he took to her like (insert favorite positive colloquialism here) and was very happy when we came back for the actual booking. Many pictures during his stay reinforced the knowledge he was having a great time. Definitely worth it and I’ll try to rebook during my next vacation need.”

About: I've taken care of pets for a long time, including my own, but also those of my friends and family. I love hanging out with animals and making sure that they're well-taken care of, and properly loved. I work remotely during the day, which gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to be available for pet care needs throughout the day. In the evenings, I coach baseball, but I have a consistent routine and am never truly on call, so I can always make time for feeding, walks, playtime, and giving a pet the attention and care they need. I prioritize creating a safe, comfortable, and trusting environment for every pet. In my home or a client’s home, I make sure pets have a clean space, access to food and water, regular exercise, and plenty of attention. I follow each owner’s instructions carefully, maintain their routines, and make sure pets feel comfortable and secure while they are in my care.

About: I’ve had dogs my entire life and genuinely love caring for them. To me, every dog deserves patience, kindness, and plenty of attention. Whether your pup loves long walks, playtime, or simply relaxing with good company, I’ll make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I understand that every dog has a unique personality and routine, so I’ll follow your care instructions carefully—from feeding schedules and medications to favorite toys and walking habits. My goal is to treat your dog like a member of my own family, giving you peace of mind knowing they’re in caring, reliable hands. Please note, we board on family at a time, we do not cage the dogs. Pet care fits seamlessly into my daily routine because I work from home, and my wife is home full-time. This means your pet will receive plenty of attention, companionship, and supervision throughout the day rather than being left alone for long periods. We have a clean, safe, and pet-friendly home where dogs can feel comfortable and relaxed. Whether it’s regular walks, playtime, feeding, or simply providing affection and companionship, we’re committed to making every pet feel like part of the family while they’re in our care. I care for every pet as if they were my own. I follow each owner’s instructions carefully, including feeding schedules, exercise routines, medications, and any special needs or preferences. I make sure pets receive plenty of attention, affection, playtime, and regular potty breaks while maintaining their normal routine as much as possible. In my home, pets stay in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment where they are supervised throughout the day. Since I work from home and my wife is home full-time, your pet will have lots of companionship and won’t be left alone for extended periods. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I respect both the pet’s routine and the owner’s home. I provide reliable, attentive care, keep the space tidy, and send regular updates and photos so you can have peace of mind while you’re away.
About: I’ve always been an animal lover, and caring for pets has been a part of my life for years. From playful puppies to senior dogs who need extra patience, I know how to adjust my care to fit each pet’s personality and needs. I have hands-on experience with feeding, walking, administering medications, crate training, and keeping pets comfortable while their owners are away. Friends and family often rely on me to watch their dogs and cats, and I treat every animal like they’re my own—plenty of cuddles, playtime, and attention included! Whether your pet is full of energy or just enjoys lounging around, I’ll make sure they feel safe, loved, and cared for at all times. Pet care is just a natural part of my day. I’m used to building my routine around feeding, walks, playtime, and lots of love. I make sure pets get their exercise, attention, and cuddles every single day, because I know how much those little things matter. Each week, I also set time aside for things like brushing, extra play, or whatever makes them happiest. Taking care of animals doesn’t feel like a chore to me — it’s something I truly enjoy and look forward to. I care for pets like they’re part of the family! In my home, they’ll have a safe, cozy space with plenty of love, playtime, and snuggles. In your home, I follow their normal routine so they feel comfortable and cared for—whether that’s walks, meals, meds, or cuddle time. Every pet is unique, and I make sure they get the attention and affection they deserve. 💕🐾

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Topping home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Topping.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Topping sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
