“Theresa is simply amazing. She came through for my fur baby at the last minute when we needed to leave town. She was kind, patient and answered all of my questions to help soothe any anxieties with leaving my fur baby in someone else’s care. She was on time for pickup and drop off. She sent pictures and responded to text and phone calls promptly. You can’t go wrong with Theresa!!”

“Mary is fantastic. This was our first booking with her, and we will definitely be booking with her again for future dog sitting needs. She sends updates with pictures and the dogs really seem to be comfortable with her. Highly recommend!”

“Jacqueline took such great care of our dog while we were out of town. She and her family treated our dog as if he was their own. We couldn't be happier with Jacqueline. She's the best! ❤️”

About: Friendly, warm, and welcoming. I have plenty of indoor and outdoor space to roam in my home plus a fenced in backyard. I've had dogs in the home since I was child and have been caring full-time for my dog for 7 years. I have previous experience with in-home boarding for some of my co-workers and have cared for dogs with nervous bladders. I currently work full time, but am always home in the evenings for plenty of playtime and walks. I can be flexible with pick up and drop off times with at least a day's notice to work with your schedule. I have a fenced in yard and plenty of space to roam inside my home. Dogs are welcome on the furniture or in bed if they need some extra cuddle time. I can crate your dogs if needed during the day and my own pup is crate trained for while I'm away.

“Stacy welcomed my dog into her house and treated him as her own. Rudy loved playing and snuggling with her family! She communicated well and made sure she understood his needs. I will use Stacy again.”

“Jennifer was great! It helped us relax on our trip knowing our dog was with someone who was treating her like their own dog. Our dog was able to play outside in the fenced yard, snuggle a bunch and treated like a part of their family. We will definitely use Jennifer for another future trip! Thanks so much!”

“Rosie was happy when I picked her up. The next morning she was back to her usual self. With some other sitters, it can take one to three days for her to be back to her usual self. So just from that I’d say Alyssa did a nice job.”

About: I’ve covered private care, dog walking, training, vet settings and grooming over the past 20 years. Currently I’m the lead groomer at a local doggie daycare specializing in behavioral rehabilitation. This means dogs in my care get folded into my pack and taken along for our day. We have a 1/3 of an acre to relax on and can reinforce training or loose leash pack walks during their stay. As I work with dogs full time, we can easily fold 1-2 dogs into our daily routine. Structured feed times, crate rotation, daily training and lots of playing in the yard are already a part of our day. Dogs can come to work with me if necessary where they will have yard access for potty breaks and a private area indoors, or stay home with my older girl who prefers the peace and quiet of sun bathing, and midday breaks for walks or time in the yard. We have a large home and yard to accommodate everyone, employ structured meal times and crate and rotate when necessary so everyone has 1-1 time at home.
About: Hi, I’m Bonnie! 🐾 I’ve been caring for dogs for over 30 years and have rescued many pups along the way. I have experience with puppies, seniors, and dogs needing medication or extra care, including caring for my own senior diabetic dog. I’m loving, dependable, and will treat your pup like family! ❤️ Flexible weekday schedule for walks, medication or drop ins. I’m available for flexible pet walking, including mornings, afternoons, early evenings, and weekends. I’m happy to work with your schedule and your pet’s needs. I provide loving, gentle, and attentive care in your home, following your pet’s routine while giving them comfort, companionship, medication care(if needed) and plenty of affection.
“Alyssa was an amazing sitter while I was away for a training. She sent me photos and videos of Genghis while I was in class or studying. I definitely recommend Alyssa and would book again.”

“We were nervous to tryout Rover but couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter for our fur baby. Ali treated our dog as if he was her own and also made sure we got several updates throughout his stay with her. We highly recommend Ali and will be a returning customer for sure!”

“Morgan was very flexible and accommodating. She provided lots of pictures of the dogs during their stay with her and they seemed to have a blast. Would definitely use Morgan again.”

About: I’ve been caring for dogs for over 11 years, beginning with my own Yorkie Terrier, Lola. I got Lola when I was in 9th grade, and she was one of my first big responsibilities growing up. I’ve had her ever since, and caring for her throughout her entire life has taught me a lot about patience, consistency, and paying attention to a dog’s individual needs. Over the years, I’ve handled all aspects of Lola’s care, including daily walks, feeding, bathing, grooming, and administering medication. I’ve also cared for larger dogs, including a Weimaraner and a Golden Retriever, staying with both for five days. I currently work from home 90% of the time in marketing and communications for a nonprofit, so I have a flexible schedule and am able to give pets plenty of attention throughout the day. I also live an active lifestyle and love going on walks, getting outside, and spending time with dogs. What I love most about dogs is how energetic and affectionate they are. I’m patient, attentive, and want every pet I care for to feel comfortable, safe, and loved while their owner is away. I also enjoy cats and have spent time around them during college. While I’m newer to caring for cats independently, I’m very comfortable following an owner’s instructions and learning each pet’s individual routine. Pet care is already a natural part of my daily routine. Monday through Friday, I wake up around 5 a.m. and go to the gym before starting work. I’m back home around 7 a.m., which is when my dog usually wakes up. She’s a small senior dog who loves to sleep in and stay warm! I take her outside as soon as I get home, then prepare her breakfast. I work from home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., which gives me plenty of flexibility throughout the day. I give my dog a smalll lunch around noon, depending on when I take my own lunch break, and take her outside afterward. She has dinner around 5:30 p.m., followed by another potty break. On weekends (during warmer weather, 40 degrees and up), I typically wake up around 7 a.m., feed my dog and take her outside, then head to the gym. When I get back, we go on a 20-minute neighborhood walk together. She gets another meal and potty break around 12:30 p.m., and I usually run errands afterward. Dinner is around 5:30 p.m., followed by another potty break. At the end of the day, after dinner, I also make time for her dental cleaning as part of her regular routine. Because I work from home and have a flexible schedule, I’m able to give pets plenty of attention, breaks, walks, and companionship throughout the day. My priority is to make sure every pet feels comfortable, safe, and cared for while their owner is away. I’ll always follow the instructions and routines provided by the owner, including feeding schedules, walks, medication, potty breaks, and any other specific needs. I also think communication is important, so I’m happy to provide updates while you’re away and let you know how your pet is doing. Depending on the pet and the service, I enjoy spending time playing, going on walks, giving plenty of attention and cuddles, and simply keeping them company.
“Frida was an absolutely phenomenal sitter and so sweet and loving to our dog Blaike. She treated her with warmth, kindness, and patience. Her dogs were loving and playful with our dog and welcomed her with open paws! Frida provided many updates with pictures and videos and let us know how thoroughly she was being cared for and enjoying her stay. Frida truly treats your dog like family and I highly recommend her as your sitter! We will absolutely be booking her for our next trip. Thank you so much Frida!!”

About: I have always loved animals and being around them as much as possible! I have a pittie, Nugget, & a chug, Pumpkin. They LOVE to play with other dogs, which is why I wanted to pet sit! I have a few years experience of fostering rescue dogs, so me & my pups are used to working with all different types of pups & we love them all 🥰 My calendar is set for days I'm off work, so I'll be home with your dog for most of the day. If I need to run any errands, I can certainly take your pup on a car ride with me if they enjoy those! If there are certain routines your pet needs to stick to, I can certainly stick to that schedule. I have a secure, fenced in yard that they can be out in for as long and as often as your pup would like. I have extra crates if your pup is comfortable with those. They are welcome on my furniture or in any of my extra dog beds. Let me know of anything that will help make them feel most at home!

About: I have a wealth of experience caring for dogs of all sizes while their parents were on vacation. I’m skilled in handling potty-trained puppies and have experience with special needs dogs, including those who are deaf or blind. Ensuring their comfort and well-being is my top priority. I love to keep pet parents updated with plenty of photos, whether I'm providing drop-in services or taking them for a walk. Although, I do not have boarding or house sitting not active if you reach out to me I can see if we can make something work. While I am pregnant, I can still hustle and would love to meet your pet to see if we are a match for dog walking! Additionally, I have experience with exotic birds and small mammals like hamsters and rats. Plus, as a proud cat mom, I understand the unique needs of our feline friends! As a dedicated dog walker and pet mom myself, my schedule is quite flexible as a server compared to the traditional 9-to-5. This allows me to easily adapt to your needs and ensure that your furry friend gets the bathroom breaks & love they deserve. My off-peak hours, especially during the winter months, give me even more time to devote to your pet, ensuring they receive all the love and attention they need! While I don't offer boarding in my home due to having a small child and four cats, I'm more than happy to accommodate pets that are friendly and comfortable with little ones. I invite any pet parents to set up a meet and greet to ensure a good fit. During their stay, pets are treated like family and are allowed on our couch and bed, enjoying a cozy, loving environment. When caring for pets in your home, I understand how important security and peace of mind are. I’m completely comfortable with having cameras inside for your reassurance, and I promise to respect your space by not bringing anyone else into your home—trust is key. With extensive experience in house sitting and dog sitting prior to joining Rover, I always take the time to go over your pet’s daily routine, ensuring they feel at ease. This way, you can enjoy your vacation with complete peace of mind! I also love sending updates and pictures everyday.

About: I’ve had dogs all my life. I have a 7 year old golden named bode. I am familiar with medication distribution and other restrictions. Bode was diagnosed with lymphoma at 5 and has been in remission for 2 years. I grew up with labs as well as shitzus and my dad has a 9 year old golden. I would prefer to meet any candidate prior to boarding as they will be in the same space as my golden, he’s a gentle giant and gets along with all animals. He is a service animal so I have experience in training and younger dogs as well. I work from home full time and have a lot of free time to give during the week. Weekends are busy for me at the moment but will slow down come winter. I work from home so week days are great I have a lot of flexibility for walks and play time and potty breaks. Very attentive and will have my golden to play with. Big grass area to play at but no fence, live in a townhome with lots of toys. Since I work from home I’m very attentive and responsive.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Shirland home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Shirland.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Shirland sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in IL ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
