“Hailey was amazing! She shared pictures while watching Sam, took him on walks, and really followed our requests. We felt very comfortable with Hailey in our home and taking care of Samwise while we were out of town.”

“This was my first time ever using a dog sitter that wasn't in my family, so we were a little nervous. Heather went above and beyond for us the whole week we were gone. She stayed at our house and watched our Mini goldendoodle. We received daily updates with pictures, she took him on walks, and obviously took very good care of him. The house was left very clean. With no sign that anyone was even there. Every vacation we take from now on will just be planned around her availability :)”

“Hannah is fantastic with our dogs. She stayed with them for two nights. They were happy to have a new playmate and snack dealer. I highly recommend Hannah and will use her services in the future.”

“Allison took great care of my cat Trixie! I appreciate the time and attention she gave to my girl while I was out of the country. She also did an amazing job taking care of my home and left it cleaner than I did for her! Getting back from an international trip being greeting by my clean home and happy cat felt incredible. I would absolutely recommend Allison”

“Denise is so sweet and accommodating. We had a wedding and it was so comforting that she checked in and sent pics, so we knew everything was okay. Would definitely book with Denise again!”

“Gigi was absolutely wonderful while watching our dog and checking in on our cat. She was reliable, communicative, and clearly cared about our pets like they were her own. Knowing she was checking in and keeping us updated gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Our dog was happy and well cared for, and she made sure our cat was fed and comfortable too. We’re so grateful for her help and would absolutely trust her again — highly recommend!!!”

“This is the first time we have used Adam. He helped us over night and was so good with our dog Bailey. He was very attentive to all her needs. He sent many pictures which meant alot because we knew she was in good hands. We will definitely book him the next time we need him.”
“I cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about Kim! She was absolutely fantastic from our first meeting with the pups and throughout our entire trip. She sent pictures, took them for daily walks, made sure our oldest pup got her daily medications, left our house organized and cleaner than when we left it, the list goes on and on! We will use her again and again when we need to leave our pups in good hands. This is the first time we have used a dogsitter off of Rover and we struck GOLD. Our pups were happy and well taken care of; our oldest dog is 11yo with a new diagnosis of Cushing's disease and Kim was so patient with her and kept us updated on her progress. Thank you Kim, you are the best! <3”

“Ashton was so great, really easy to communicate with and provided pictures along the way. She was very patient with my dogs who take a little bit to warm up to new people and handled all the feeding and walking wonderfully. Highly recommend! We are moving out of state but would otherwise continue to use her help 👍”

“She was great took care of our 2dogs and house was clean. She sent us pictures of our dogs thru out her 3 day stay. The dogs were happy.I like to say thank you and will use her again.I would highly recommend her.”

About: I’ve been taking care of pets for 6+ years! I have 3+ years of veterinary background at Texas A&M University and additional vet pharmacy experience from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. I have experience administering medications including pilling and house-sitting! I am currently on remote rotation for my Pharm.D. program, so I am very flexible in my hours throughout the week! I am willing to stop by or stay to house-sit as well. I am in an apartment that doesn't allow pets, but I am willing to pet sit in your home, house-sit, or wherever you need it. I can also come in and let out the pets for potty breaks, or administer medications.

“Zoe did a wonderful job pet sitting for my 2 little pups. She did everything I asked her even though feeding my senior pup was complicated. Both dogs were happy & healthy when I got home and the house was clean too! She was good with them, they enjoyed her calm and gentle attention. She also sent frequent updates and pictures too. I would recommend Zoe for any dog care needs.”

“Nikkola did an amazing job taking care of my dog, Malfoy, while I was away. She stayed at my home, was very respectful of my space, and followed all of my care instructions perfectly. She kept me updated throughout the stay with regular texts and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind knowing Malfoy was happy and well cared for. When I came home, Malfoy was relaxed, happy, and clearly had been well looked after. I really appreciated Nikkola's communication, reliability, and professionalism. I would absolutely book her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring sitter!”

About: I’ve cared for many dogs outside of Rover and am currently building my profile here. I offer a true home-away-from-home experience—no kennels, no crates, just a safe, comfortable space where your dog becomes part of the family. Your pup will spend their days lounging, playing and getting plenty of attention, just like they would at home. We’re also an active household! My home backs right up to Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, so daily hikes and outdoor exploring are a big part of our routine. Whether your dog loves adventure or prefers to relax, I tailor care to their personality and energy level. I keep my numbers limited so each dog gets plenty of one-on-one attention, exercise and love. You’ll get regular updates and photos so you can relax knowing your dog is happy, safe and having a great time. I'm comfortable with pets of all ages, sizes and personalities whether they are energetic and playful or more laid-back and cuddly. From daily walks and playtime to snuggles and belly rubs, I make sure your pets feel safe, loved and happy while their owners are away. I'll treat your pets like my own! Pet care is already part of my everyday life. I work from home and have a flexible schedule, so your pet will get plenty of attention throughout the day and won’t be left alone for long periods. I’m able to keep a consistent routine with walks, potty breaks, playtime, and downtime, depending on what your pet is used to. I focus on creating a calm, structured and safe environment so pets can settle in quickly and feel at home. I follow your pet’s normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, exercise, and any specific instructions. I have a fully fenced yard for secure outdoor time and I can crate only if needed. I’m very attentive to behavior and energy levels and I keep things low-stress by not overbooking. You’ll receive regular updates with photos so you always know your pet is happy and well cared for.

“Jessica took wonderful care of our Aussie and our home while we were away. She was communicative, reliable, and gave us peace of mind knowing he was in good hands. We came home to a happy, well-cared-for pup and a house that was just as we left it. We’d happily book with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy sitter. 🐾”

FAQs for House Sitting - Shem
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 167 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Shem. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Shem walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Shem maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Shem choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
