About: I've helped take care of the family dogs since I was young. My father had hunting dogs when we lived in the country and those types were friendly but could be assertive. Feeding, watering and checking for ticks or small wounds was a daily routine in any weather. We had German Shepherds for security but they were also loyal and protective pets. I attended Vohne Liche Training Kennels in Indiana and became an Explosive Detection Dog Handler while working as a defense contractor in Iraq, and have the certificate. I currently don't have a dog since my yard is small and I know that a healthy dog needs daily exercise. I have taken care of my friends and neighbors' dogs and walked them daily, but I avoid taking them to city parks or dog parks. A few owners disobey the laws and allow their dogs to roam the park off leash and this almost always ends badly. Sooner or later there will be a fight when an off-leash dog decides to attack other dogs that are leashed. Not all dogs at doggy parks are well socialized, and there is no proof of any current vaccinations. Dogs are pack animals and some may try to assert their dominance by fighting or harassing other dogs, especially those that are well mannered and non aggressive. I'm retired and an empty nester, so I have the time to devote as much attention as your pet may need. I only have a cat, so I can be available to stay overnight with your pet. My house has three bedrooms and an air conditioned garage, so my cat has the run of the house unless I'm boarding a client's dog. In that case I close off a part of the house to keep dog and cat separate, at least until I find out if they're compatible. In a client's home, I keep the same routine as the pets are accustomed to. I enjoy walking the family dog(s) and pay close attention to their eating and potty routines. If the dogs are to be given treats, I make a game of hiding them in plain sight and letting the dog use their senses to find them. I play fetch or tug of war if the dog enjoys this type of activity. I don't mind sitting with lap dogs and sit with them wherever they're allowed, on a couch or just the floor.

I will be able to check in a few times a day, making sure they have what they need. They will receive lots of love and the owners will get plenty of check-ins with their fur babies as well! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I make sure every day they have fresh water, they’re fed on time and that they remain safe while outside in their fenced in backyard. My cats are indoor, so I have tons of experience making sure the cats remain indoors as well! All my fur babies are well loved and taken care of!

About: I loved fostering with Osceola County Animal Services in 2017 and aiding adoptions with Faithful Friends at a North Florida PetSmart (in 2022). Friends and family have sometimes needed me to be a sitter, too. A value I have, for both people and animals I meet, is for all of them to feel included. When people ask if I’m a dog or a cat person, I respond that I love both. I’ve babysat children as an occupation since September 2022. Skills developed that can apply to Rover from the caregiving experience are alertness, tenderness, self-discipline, and biceps. Older kids loved a game called “elevator” on swings that required all of my strength. I am confident that this has prepared my muscles for dog walking scenarios with larger dogs that could require more assertion and quick responses. And only recently did I learn to love all breeds—even Chihuahuas. My sister showed me the beauty of Sphinxes, the hairless cat breed. I am looking for work! Other activities I do include exercise, music, dance, etc. Then I simply have my routine of eating food. I am available to help. Each animal and owner is unique. I aim to be adaptable and gentle in care. Discipline is also beneficial—let me know any specific callouts or gestures you’d like me to use with your animal (i.e. for “sit”). I may use some on instinct. I can be mindful of socialization needs.

About: I've taken care of many types of dogs and few different types of animals since I was 4. About: My passion in life is working with animals. I have always had dogs, cats, and birds—all rescues. I've worked with big cats, primates, reptiles, and just about anything you can imagine when was Lead Caretaker at an animal sanctuary in Citrus County, FL, where I was in charge of feeding, cleaning, food inventory, and enrichment. I then spent many years in Panama, where I volunteered for "Amigos de los Animales," a charity organization that holds a monthly spay and neuter clinic. There, I supported veterinarians and helped monitor and revive dogs and cats after their procedures.
