“Sidney is the best! First time I left my dog Zoey with dog sitter and we couldn’t be happier! She is responsible, caring… even cleaned my house before I cam home. My dog, Zoey is worn out from all the trips to dog park, playing, and got her first pup cup icecream! We will definitely be using her again soon!”

“Kayla went above and beyond for our boy! She is super reliable and took such amazing care of Jax! Just to add how amazing she is, our garage code wasn’t working and she stayed over an hour locked out trying to figure out a solution to make sure she got to Jax while we were out of town!! A+ from us!”

“Sonja was wonderful with karma! We are so glad that Rover has such capable people. She kept me posted on how things were going. I highly recommend her. If we have a need for a dog sitter again we certainly would use her. Thank you”

About: I have cared for cats and dogs my whole life. My family had labs and border collies at home when I was younger, and I currently have two cats. I am a teacher in the Iowa City school district. Currently, I am fully available for the summer. I will have evening and weekend availability during the school year. I am very sensitive to the needs that different pets can require. I have two cats that are very different and require different types of care. I am happy to tailor services to the needs of your pets.
“This review comes from a mom that rarely has to leave her "babies", but could not pass up an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime family vacation. We found Auden...and for a reason...she is not only an amazing dog mom, but a fantastic dog sitter! Auden spent two weeks with our dogs in our home. She went above and beyond when it came to to taking care of our dogs, in addition, our home. The highlight for all of us was our dogs making a new friend, Yen, which is Auden's dog. All three dogs are dachshunds and get along wonderfully! Made our hearts happy! We have many plans coming up in the near future and will be contacting Auden again. Thanks to Auden for giving us peace of mind and for making our pups happy.”

“Avery provided us with complete peace of mind for the week we booked with her for house/pet sitting. She went above & beyond for our very spoiled dogs, sent the most adorable pupdates, and took amazing care of our home and furbabies. We would definitely book again, and so thankful for you Avery!”

“Elise was great! She took good care of our standard poodle and gave him his eye drops twice a day. Bonus: while house sitting she took our old bananas and made banana bread! Highly recommend as a pet/house sitter!”

“Madison was the best rover we ever had! Sent us updates and cute pictures, took great care of our baby and did everything we asked for. Made everything easy for us and left a sweet note too. We will definitely be in touch with her for our next trips😌😍”

“Thanks Angie for taking such great care of our 3 puppies! Angie was very prompt, responsive, and communicative. We have 2 very vocal small dogs and one senior dog. She did so great with them and we knew they were in good hands. We got regular pictures and updates. Angie also took great care of our house. Highly recommend using Angie to watch your dogs - they'll be well loved.”

“Christine was absolutely amazing! We were hesitant in finding a house sitter for our dogs and cats as we’ve had a bad experience in the past, so I feel so lucky finding her! She cared about the wellbeing of our pets, sending photos throughout the day, giving us piece of mind. One of our dogs has major separation anxiety so she made sure to give him extra TLC. She took great care of our apartment too! I love that she was communicative and just had great energy. Christine will now be our go-to sitter for as long as she is available.”

“Thank you for taking such good care of our pups and kitties! It was so nice to be able to check in and get a quick response when I reached out. There were lots of storms during our week away and our pups don’t handle weather events well, Tiffany made sure they were safe and comfortable! Was so nice to not have to worry about them having good care. I would recommend Tiffany to others looking for quality care of their pets while they are away.”

About: I have my own dog at home who I have grown up with. I have also grown up taking care of neighborhood dogs and my uncles dogs who I have taken care of since they were puppies. I have also taken care of many of my neighbors cats and other various pets. I am currently a full time student technically but I have a lot of open times that I would love to come hang out with some pets who just need some extra loving or taking care of. This also helps me have a break from life and focus on just spending quality time with some pets who are fun to be around. I always put the pet first. I make sure I remember times I went over or left and how long I have stayed at a residence so they have enough time outside of kennels or for play time. I want the pets to feel like they can be calm and chill or be crazy and I’ll play with them or walk them when they just need some energy out.
“Lauren was absolutely amazing with Axel and Layla! I needed last second care for them and she took great care of them! She was punctual, communicative, and open to do more for them. Hands down the greatest experience I’ve had on Rover for the pups! 12/10 stars and would highly recommend her! Your fur-children will be in the best care with her!”

About: I grew up with a dog and I lived with dogs. I was often left in charge of the needs and cares of these animals. I am capable of caring for multiple dogs at a time and have no issues with walking them simultaneously. I work a full time job I’m available evening and nights during the week and sometimes on the weekends. I have 3 days off a week. I abide by the rules you set for your pets from feeding time to going outside, two walks a day and plenty of play time. I have a mellow energy and a strong ability to pick up on an animal’s vibes, adjusting my own energy to match. If they’re playful and active, I will engage with them on their level. I’m currently working a full time job. I work two twelve hour days and 2 eight hour days every week. I work two weekends every month but I have 3 days off a week. I’ll take care of them like they are my own. I make sure they are safe and have everything they need especially if I’m not there.

FAQs for House Sitting - Plato
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 342 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Plato. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Plato walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Plato maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Plato choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Plato. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
