Kayla is a 5 star sitter. From the meet and greet until the last day of the booking she was friendly, responsive, and most importantly, the best (substitute) companion for my anxious/scared chihuahua. Will (hopefully) be using her services again. Thanks Kayla!

Five stars isn’t enough — Preston is the real deal. As professional dog daycare and boarding operators, we have extremely high standards for who we trust with our animals and our home. Preston didn’t just meet those standards — he obliterated them. Our four boys were calm, happy, and clearly well-loved when we got home. The house was spotless. And Preston had already handled everything. Here’s what truly set him apart: he noticed an ear infection developing in one of our dogs — something that requires a practiced, attentive eye — arranged transportation to and from the vet, cleaned the ear, and administered the post-visit medication. All on his own. That’s not just good pet sitting. That’s genuine expertise and real initiative. We’ve been in the pet care industry. We know what great care looks like. Preston is the rare kind of sitter you hope exists but rarely find on any platform. If you’re on the fence about booking him — stop deliberating. Book Preston. We won’t use anyone else.

Kristen took excellent care of my cats. She has a calm, friendly presence, and my cats responded very well to her. All three, especially the two Ragdolls, are very attached and tend to follow people around like little puppies, and they were clearly comfortable with her.

Ben’s service to our dog and our family was top-notch. He was prompt for the meet and greet meeting, he messaged ahead on the day of the booking to see if there was anything that needed changed. He went above and beyond with watching our dog: taking her for a walk and playtime in the backyard. He texted us photos and even a concern about a skin blemish with our dog. He cleaned up very well after himself, even laundering our guest bedroom bedding. We recommend his services to anyone who has need. And we will definitely be booking him again.

Penny kept our 15-week-old lab puppy and cat at our house for four days while we were out of town. Our pup is definitely in the puppy phase and is a real challenge to keep out of trouble. Penny did a great job in maintaining the consistency of his schedule and continued his training while we were away. I'm sure this was over the top from the normal sitting arrangements. She keeps a daily diary of what she and our pets did so she does an outstanding job of communicating. This was our first experience with having someone stay in our home and it worked out great. Penny is reliable, great with our animals and a great house guest. We will definitely rebook when the need arises and would highly recommend her to watch your pets.

When I got home, I honestly couldn't tell anyone had even been here, but for the fact that the pets were happy and healthy. :-) She sent updates and pictures, and I never had a worry. I look forward to having her here again.

As an online college student at UTK, I'm your ideal pet sitter, always available and ready for anything your furry friends need. Whether it's playtime, walks, or just some extra TLC, I prioritize your pet's happiness and well-being above all else. Throughout the day, between classes and assignments, I'm there to ensure your pets feel loved and attended to. From morning cuddles to evening adventures, I'm dedicated to creating memorable experiences and building a strong bond with your pets. With a flexible schedule and a genuine passion for animals, I'm not just a pet sitter – I'm a trusted companion for your pets, ready to make every moment special. Choose me, and rest assured your pets will receive top-notch care and endless affection. When it comes to caring for both cats and dogs, safety, trust, and creating a comfortable environment are my top priorities. While cats won't be venturing outdoors, I ensure they have a stimulating indoor environment with cozy spots, toys, and scratching posts to keep them happy and entertained. In my home, for our canine companions, leash walks are the name of the game to ensure their safety and enjoyment during outdoor excursions. Meanwhile, our feline friends have their own special corners where they can lounge and play to their heart's content. From playful pups to curious cats, I welcome pets of all sizes and personalities with open arms. Whether it's a solo adventure or a cozy cuddle session, I tailor my care to meet the individual needs of each furry friend, ensuring they feel loved and cherished. While outdoor adventures may be off the table for our feline friends, there are plenty of indoor activities to keep them engaged and content. Whether it's interactive playtime, cozy naps in sunny spots, or exploring new toys, I'm dedicated to providing a stimulating environment that brings out the best in every pet. So, whether it's a purring cat or a wagging tail, rest assured your beloved pets are in caring hands. With safety, trust, and a whole lot of love, I'm here to make every moment special for your furry family members, indoors and out.

About: Call me Kat or Anna! I've been living with animals my whole life, including dogs, cats, and guinea pigs. From the age of 13, I have been taking care of my neighbours' and family friends' pets when they ask. I've got experience with rodents, lizards, cats, and dogs, but I'm not afraid to learn new animals! I've got particular experience with special needs pets, including post-surgery care, asthma, seniors, separation anxiety, leaky bladders, and daily oral/injection medication. I'm not squeamish around messes, smells, or loud noise. I've cared for nearly every personality out there, and whether your pet wants space, cuddles, or needs a bath, I'll help out for as long as you and your pets need, no matter how many or how weird they are! I'm currently a college student and take classes on monday/wednesday from 12pm-3pm and tuesday/thursday from 6pm-9pm. During those hours, I will not be available. I am happy to care for your pets anytime other than that, however, even on holidays! Personally, I use free-feeding (there's always kibble in the bowl) and positive reinforcement with my pets. They're only allowed outside under supervision, I clean the litter boxes every other day, I play with them daily, and special treats are highly encouraged. Of course, other houses have different care plans, and I am flexible. I will never enter any areas of your home you have not given me permission to access unless it is an emergency, I will clean your house before leaving if it is an overnight stay, and I will always alert you via a text message when I enter or leave your home so that you know your pet is being looked after. If you have other requests regarding your pet and home, such as getting mail, watering plants, etc, I am more than happy to oblige.

About: I am currently pursuing my X-ray tech degree, and while in school, I work at a local bakery that offers me the flexibility to help care for your pets. I recently transitioned from the veterinary field, where I gained extensive experience handling medical needs for animals. With years of hands-on care for dogs, cats, and even horses, I’ve worked with pets of all ages—from energetic puppies to gentle seniors. I’m passionate about providing reliable, loving, and knowledgeable care, ensuring every pet gets the attention they deserve. I am currently working full time at a local bakery while pursuing my X-ray tech degree, with most of my classes online. I’m looking for a part-time job on my days off. My schedule can vary, but I typically know my availability about two weeks in advance. Having recently left the veterinary field, I bring years of hands-on experience and a strong medical background. I’m committed to making your time away less stressful by providing attentive care along with daily photo and video updates, so you can have peace of mind while you’re gone. I take pleasure in creating enrichment activities that suit each pet’s energy and interest. This could mean trips to the dog park, going for walks, engaging in a training session, or using treat-dispensing puzzles to keep their minds active and entertained.

About: I’ve been taking care of animals for most of my life. I love high energy animals and taking care of them. I grew up with a dog and cat I still have and care for and more recently I have been a volunteer at the Humane Society, I even ended up starting my own club of volunteers in high school. This role has equipped me with all sorts of animal care skills such as cleaning after them, bathing them, feeding them and administering medication, and making sure to provide lots of love and attention. I’ve always said that I’m not a dog or cat person when asked, but rather an animal person. I love animals and caring after them. I am a college student at Tulane University and I am currently home for the summer! I am available until June 22nd and have open availability all day every day until then. I have a fenced yard and two pets of my own that are both friendly so I am no stranger to spending time outdoors with animals or having playdates. I am more than happy to take pets to any appointments they may have and am able to administer medication if needed.

About: I’ve been working with animals for 15 years, caring for dogs, cats, birds and can help with farm animals as well. I have handled breeds that are small to very large. I am very flexible with my schedule. I love to ensure they are getting their exercise as needed, as well as a well rounded diet. I am a stay at home mom so I am very happy to be with them however they require. We use leashes and harnesses for outside. We have a dog park close by that’s fenced in and safe for giving them running time and ability to play freely

FAQs for House Sitting - Philadelphia

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 386 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Philadelphia. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Philadelphia walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Philadelphia maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Philadelphia choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Philadelphia. On Rover:

  • 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
