About: I have been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. I absolutely adore animals of all kinds, especially cats. I have experience caring for my kitty that had cancer, including providing subcutaneous fluids, medications/fluids/food through a feeding tube, and administering liquid, capsule, tablet, and transdermal medications. I also have experience with other feline medical issues, such as chronic urinary blockages and feline asthma. Further, I have never lived in a home without a dog, and have a background in animal behavior, training, grooming, and health. I have no problem providing medications to any animals and have experience with seniors. I love dogs of all sizes, especially huge dogs! I am available 24/7 and am extremely flexible with scheduling! I am fully self-employed and I have an extremely open schedule. I have no problem with short-notice cancellations or applications, and will almost always be able to take on your request! I will fully adapt to you and your pet’s schedule. My job is to maintain your pet’s wellbeing and enrichment, so that is what I’m there to do!
“PLEASE do yourself a favor and hire Ty as your next Rover sitter. she was on time, so attentive, and provided so many updates. We really do not leave our fur baby with many people, but I felt really comfortable leaving her with Ty. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!”

“Kayla was the best Rover we’ve ever used. She sent us pictures daily of our pups and she was extremely communicative. We did a meet up before our trip just so she could meet the pups and they warmed up to her right away (dogs know ?) You won’t regret using Kayla as your in home dog sitter. She treated our home with respect and we came home exactly the way we left it.”

“Avery did a wonderful job taking care of our corgis. We are. very pleased. She stayed in touch and sent photos. She was conscientious in making sure she was taking care of them the way we do. I’ll most definitely call on her again. Mitzi”

“Jessie looked after our soon to be 19 yr old kitty, Bella. She's a tough one...blind, deaf in one ear, has asthma and in renal failure (but is still going strong). Oh, Bella also has attitude...aka...tortietude...the kind a Persain tortoiseshell, senior cat would have. Trust me, I had reservations leaving her for one night, but I did. Thankfully, Jessie came through. Jessie was reliable in every way...even when it came to medicating Bella, which turned out to be more difficult than the consult. I guess, because Bella is now blind, taking a treat, with medication hidden inside, from a stranger, is a no-no. Anyway, we were able to talk things through, and ultimately, late in the evening, Jessie was able to manually give Bella her medications...and I was able to sleep soundly knowing Bella was in good hands. Jessie is a kind soul, has patience, and cared enough to meet Bella where she was. For that, I would hire her again in a heart beat.”

“Brooke was phenomenal! She and our skittish little dog, Bingo, hit it off right away during a "meet & greet". She took great care of Bingo, sending us pictures & updates on a regular basis. we were able to fully enjoy our 10 day trip, knowing our home and fur baby were in such good hands. We will definitely want Brooke back the next time we leave town.”

“Absolutely perfect first house sitting stay with our pup. Great communication, excellent care of our pup and our house. Really good guy, we definitely recommend that he take care of your pets.”

About: Over 10 years of pet care experience with dogs, cats, and more. I’ve cared for everything from dachshunds and German shepherds to many different Cats! Friends, family, and former coworkers have trusted me to walk, feed, cuddle, and overnight-sit their pets with the same love and attention I’d give my own. Pet care has always been a natural part of my life. I’m fully available for overnight stays, extended house sitting, and daily care. I follow instructions carefully and treat every pet like family — because that’s exactly what they are. I currently live with two dogs — a poodle and a Doberman mix — so your pet will be in a comfortable, animal-friendly environment. I’m attentive to each pet’s individual routine, dietary needs, and personality. Whether it’s medication schedules, feeding times, or extra cuddles, I make sure every animal feels safe and loved.

About: Had to make new account *** Hi, my name is Carson! I have been dog sitting for 10 years now. In high school I worked at Sidle Hill Farms (Dog boarding) in Southhaven, MS. I then gained clients and have been pet sitting from my home and others ever since. I have always dreamed of opening my own dog boarding and then remember I won't even take my own dog to be boarded! That is why I do what I do now, to nurture to love and to calm your pets nerves. I understand that it can be sometimes even more nerve racking for the owner then the pet... I am that owner! My husband Alex and I live in Oakland, Tn with a gorgeous fenced in yard as pictured. I work from home and usually never leave the house unless I go to Walmart up the street. We do not have any children and do not plan on it anytime soon! We are totally content with fur babies for now! A typical day at our home for your pet would include waking up in our bed, breakfast, mornings outside pending on weather (I have an outdoor desk), playing with millions of toys we can't seem to stop buying and of course when Alex comes home a walk around the neighborhood. We can't wait to meet you and your sweet fur baby! Dogs and cats are my whole life I care for them just as children. I love exercise and getting outside so pet care has come as a joy to me not just a chore. Dog walking, bathing, playing, co sleeping, cooking for pets if needed, taking them to groomers ect.. I am available to your pets needs as well as yours!
“Natalie is the best! This was our first time leaving our dogs with a sitter. She made us feel so comfortable and stress free. So professional and truth worthy! I didn’t worry about my home or dogs at all while on vacation. I love the daily video and photo updates of our dogs! I highly recommend!”

“Adel is the best! He has watched our pups numerous times and always does an amazing job. The dogs love him and we feel good knowing that we can travel without stress because we know they are happy and well taken care of. He also takes great care of the house and even did laundry! Would recommend him 100%”

About: Hi! I'm a pre-vet student with hands on animal care experience and a genuine love for animals of all kinds. I know how important it is to leave your pet with someone you can fully trust, so I focus on providing attentive, dependable care while making sure your pet feels safe and loved! Whether its walks, playtimes, feeding, or just keeping them company, I treat every pet as my own. My goal is to give owners peace of mind while creating a fun, calm, and caring experience for their pets. Pet care fits naturally into my weekly routine and is something I prioritize and plan around. I have a flexible schedule that allows me to provide consistent care, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some weekends depending on the day. I’m able to accommodate regular visits, drop-ins, walks, and feeding schedules, and I make sure to build my commitments around each pet’s needs. I’m reliable with timing and communication, so pet parents can feel confident their pets are being checked on and cared for as planned. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize creating a calm, safe, and familiar environment by following their normal routine as closely as possible. I pay close attention to feeding instructions, medication schedules, and any specific behavioral needs or preferences each pet has. I make sure doors are secured, litter boxes are clean, water is fresh, and the space is kept tidy and comfortable. I also focus on building trust with each pet by moving at their pace, especially with shy or anxious animals, and giving them gentle attention and reassurance. I treat every home with respect and care, keeping everything clean and leaving things exactly as I found them. My goal is always to ensure both pets and owners feel safe, comfortable, and confident while I’m there.
About: From my experience in shelter care and veterinary medicine, I am very comfortable with caring for dogs of all sizes, ages, and medical needs. I have dealt with strays and owned pets from every imaginable background, and I believe every animal is worthy of patience, respect, and affection. I’m currently unemployed so I have a very open schedule for watching your dogs and cats! I typically let my own dogs out about 4-5 times a day, and they each have their own feeding schedule that I attend to as needed. I am very flexible right now, and would also be available to do fluids, injections, and other specific medical and behavioral needs (e.g., extra walks, extra play time, etc.). I have a fenced in yard and three friendly dogs, and two sweet cats, to keep your furbaby company. I am comfortable crating dogs and have an extra crate for a small-medium dog. One of my dogs is a senior dog with special needs, so I am perfectly comfortable housing and caring for dogs who have their own special needs. I also have a dog with epilepsy so I am very used to dealing with seizures and the safety precautions that go along with them. These dogs have also never met a stranger, and our home is an overall very welcoming environment to all creatures (I even have a pet spider!).
“Dimecia was wonderful with my girl Darcy! She came for a meet and greet before even on a last minute request! She sent pictures of her visit and updated me about my girl. She spent time snuggling and giving belly rubs in the evening just like my baby loves! I could tell Dracy felt the love and made a friend for life! I will definitely be using Dimecia again in the future .”

“Daniel was very punctual and answered all our questions. She immediately clicked with our dog and our dog liked her very much. She sent photos during the dog sitting and we always knew how our dog was doing. Our dog received an overdose of scratches with Daniel and she loved it. We will hire her again, and We definitely recommend her services. HAPPY CUSTOMER and HAPPY DOG.”

About: Growing up in a heavily animal-oriented household, I fell in love with caring for animals of all kinds. With a mother who is a professional groomer and previously a vet tech, I was exposed to dogs and animals of all breeds, temperaments, ages, and more. I have been taking on animal sitting “gigs” for as long as I can remember, and love every animal I meet! I am versed in different medical care and always willing to learn anything to help. I currently work full time with dogs on a daily basis, but love to fit in extra care when I can. I am often available for house visits, overnight visits, and more! Ideally for overnight visits, the pup/pet would be okay for 8 hours at a time due to work, but always willing to be flexible or work around as best I can. I love getting to care for pet’s in their own home, as it adds an extra level of comfort for them. I love learning their routines and following a structure that is familiar to them to make things a little less stressful!
“Hannah was amazing with my 2 girls!! She updated me, sent pictures, and communicated great. My girls absolutely loved her and I was able to enjoy my trip knowing they were taken care of. Will definitely rebook with Hannah!”

FAQs for House Sitting - Oakland
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 450 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Oakland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Oakland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Oakland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Oakland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Oakland. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
