Leslie is great. She checked in on my dog while we were gone all day and our regular person was unavailable. She came out beforehand to meet us and I knew she would be great. She obviously has a lot of experience and is prompt and professional. She sent photos and reassurances that all was well. I would definitely use her again.

About: I am comfortable with all kinds of dogs and needs. I personally care for a GSD and a Heeler mix, and am comfortable with rambunctious and large dogs. Both of my dogs practice loose leash walking, and I love using our walks as time to tire their brains as well as their bodies. I can give medications, including subq and other injections. And I’m working on becoming a certified trainer, but for now I do not offer training services. I work a few part time gigs that change with the seasons. I have lots of flexibility to meet the needs of your pets. I generally do not go out of town during major holidays. I have lived on estates as a property manager, and ran my own home repair business for several years. I’m good at handling emergencies, and enjoy fixing things when I have the opportunity

Dakota met us and our GS before we left town. We were very pleased and comfortable leaving our pet under his care. He didn't just drop in to feed and walk him, he also played with him. We will never use boarding. We will differently use Dakota again when needed.

About: I grew up with dogs, cats, goats, chickens, pigs, peacocks. You name it. I’ve been a huge fan of animals since I can remember. I’m super active outside and love taking pups out on hikes or walks. My last dog had to take meds so I’m also extra sensitive to pups that may need more present care. I’ve dog sat and house sat for many years before and just recently decided to give rover a try. I’m also a photographer so pics of your sweet pea will be guaranteed! I’m a photographer so my schedule varies. Sometimes I’m on a shoot or at home editing. I work part time at a restaurant wed-Friday so am unavailable those evenings. I am generous with my love with pets if they want that. If they are shy I will absolutely listen to what they need and let them warm up to me at their own pace. I am clean and respectful of others’ space and strive to make sure your sweet pup gets the activities they deserve.

About: I have experience caring for dogs in-home, in a pet hotel, and managing on leash fun. I also ample experience working with exotic pets, zoo animals, and wildlife! There isn’t a species I can’t lovingly and competently care for. Mediation Administration, diet management, and special needs care are my specialties. I provide written updates and pictures of your pet having fun after each visit! When I’m not working as a wildlife care professional, I set aside time to care for your pets! I am available on Tuesdays and Wednesday's, and some other mornings. I request a video meet and greet first to determine if we are a good match. Then, I will get detailed care instructions from the pet owner and will follow them to a T! Always making sure to allow some time for lots of animal cuddles.

About: I have had a dog my whole life. After my old family dog passed I decided it was time to get a puppy. After months of working closely with my pup she has succeeded in recall, leash walking, show tricks and more! She is great with other dogs and would love to hangout with your pup! I am home for the summer from college with no other interfering work plans so your dog will be at the top of my list every day!! I am always alert of other dogs around, I stay away from the street, I always have a plan so you’ll know where I am and when I’ll be back with your furry friend

About: I’ve had pets my whole life. I love dogs and cats. I love animals and have no problem spending my free time taking care of and playing with some fur babies. I have a pug that I've had since she was 6 weeks old. I also have a cat who I took in after his old owner abandoned him. I currently work full time Monday-Friday 8-5pm in Charlottesville. I am more than happy to stop by after work if needed or if you want me to stay at your place I can take care of the babies before heading to work to make sure they are fed and worked. Can work with a lot of schedules. I do make and sell jewelry so there may be a few weekend days where my availability is limited due to already committed to a craft show In my house I try and take my dog out every 2 hours. In the summer my pug is sensitive to heat so we do short walks around our driveway. She is a bit spoiled and will not go outside in the rain so I do also have experience cleaning up puppy pads and encouraging their use. My cat is both indoors and outdoors so he goes to the bathroom outside but also have a litter box inside I clean every few days for him.

About: Hi, I'm Laura! When I was a kid I completed a gauntlet of tasks laid out by my parents to demonstrate that I was responsible enough to care for a pet, and I wish I could do the same for you! I frequently dogsit for friends, and it continues to be a joyful task and a responsibility I'm always honored to bear. I have lived with and loved dogs my whole life, from Logan, the chow mix who was my constant childhood companion, to Nora, the heeler mix who is my shadow. I am also the proud custodian of a barn cat and two horses. I express gentle confidence, reassurance, and guidance through my voice and body language, observe and empathize with what a dog communicates to me, can keep up a calming one-sided banter, and understand that the companionship goes both ways! I hate the feeling of leaving my own animal friends behind so I will do everything possible to relieve that for you. I work with animals full-time! I am available in the morning, at noon, and in the evening, and I have a lot of flexibility on the weekends. I am great at reading your dog's energy and responding accordingly. Sometimes it is super important to tear around the yard, and sometimes a curb simply must be thoroughly sniffed for several minutes.

Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in North Garden. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
