About: Ive been caring for pets for many years. I had a dog walking business over a decade ago. We taken care of our own and others elderly dogs. We like taking dogs on long off leash walks in groups if possible. Dogs are always welcome to cuddle up on the furniture. Im a stay at home-mom, homeschooling. We go to play groups and trips but we can plan our day around dog walks. We take the dogs out first thing in the morning on leash as our yard isnt fenced. We are happy to come feed kitties and water plants. We love taking dogs out on walks and caring for them in our home. We love going on long walks mid day out in nature
About: I’ve always loved animals and have spent many years helping friends and family take care of their pets. It’s something that brings me a lot of joy. Over the years, I’ve looked after all kinds of pets — from energetic pit bulls and bulldogs to small dogs like Shih Tzus and even cats. Sometimes I’ve stayed in people’s homes for a week or two, and other times I’ve just stopped by for walks or check-ins. I’ve also welcomed pets into my own home when friends needed someone they could trust. I have a calm, friendly personality and get along well with animals, even if we’re meeting for the first time. I’m always careful to notice when a pet might be nervous or needs some space, and I do my best to make sure they feel safe, happy, and cared for. My schedule is very flexible since I work a per diem job and can choose when to take shifts. This gives me plenty of time for pet sitting, walks, or overnight stays. I’m usually available on short notice, too. The only thing I plan ahead for is care for my own cat while I’m away, but that’s easy for me to arrange — so it won’t affect my availability or reliability. When I’m caring for pets in their own home, I do my best to keep their routine as normal and comfortable as possible — feeding, walks, playtime, and cuddles just the way they’re used to. I make sure they feel safe and cared for while their family is away. If a pet stays in my home, I treat them like one of my own. I create a calm, cozy environment with plenty of love, attention, and playtime. I also make sure to follow any specific instructions from the owner so each pet’s needs are met. I’m gentle, patient, and understanding of different personalities — whether a pet is shy and needs space or energetic and ready to play.
“John was great with our nervous Velcro dog. John is definitely a dog/animal person who can quickly read them and see what level of interaction they’re comfortable with. We plan to book with John for future dog-free trips.”

“I feel so lucky to have found Sofie and Teryn! They took such great care of my two dogs for the whole day. I was thrilled to get pictures right away and throughout the day while I was gone. I hope to use their services many times to come. Javi and Rocky were happy and very well-cared for at the beautiful home. Thank you!”

About: I've been around animals my whole life and currently have two pet goats who we spoil like dogs. We have 30 acres of beautiful land surrounded by woods, which is a perfect haven for running, fetch, and all sorts of outdoor shenanigans. I work remotely from home with a flexible schedule. I typically work a few hours in the morning, and then am outside working on projects and playing with the animals all day. We have a large property (about 30 acres) surrounded by woods with lots of room for your dog to run and explore. We also live near some great hiking trails.
About: Parents Jessica and Philip are the responsible adults guaranteeing that your dog will get everything they need, but 13-year-old Josie is the primary caretaker of our dog guests. She is a very attentive, loving and engaged pet pal! Since we started on Rover as a summer job for Josie in 2023, we have hosted dogs of all sizes, energy levels and needs and she loved every single one of them. She gets up early every day (whether or not she is caring for a dog) so she often gives the pups their first walk of the day before anyone else has gotten out of bed. In spring of 2023 Josie rescued an Eastern Phoebe (songbird) that was pushed out of its nest and injured; she fed it dry cat food soaked in sugar water and set it free a week later as a robust young fledgling (see pictures). On weekends and school vacations, Josie has little to do other than care for your dog! We are early risers. Our calendar has school days blocked off, but we would consider boarding a dog during the school week if its needs match Josie's availability so please inquire. Both parents work mostly or fully from home and could manage a midday walk for a quiet dog. Jessica is an elementary teacher and education administrator who is accustomed to carrying great responsibility for the safety of precious smaller beings. She closely supervises Josie as the primary caregiver. Our home is in the woods with access to Mt. Toby trails so your pup will get to enjoy the outdoors several times a day. Sometimes dogs who are anxious in the busy neighborhoods of their homes are much calmer when they come to our quiet, wooded setting. We have a flock of chickens in an enclosed outdoor area.
“Our dogs had a blast at Nicole’s place. They got to run around in her nice fenced in yard, played a lot of fetch and got to cool off in the kiddie pool. Nicole and her family are obviously dog lovers and I was so happy we left our girls with them. I would highly recommend Nicole to care for your pups as if they were her own.”

“I’m so glad to have connected with Gabi (and so is my pup)! I could tell right away that she loves and genuinely cares about any dogs who are lucky enough to hang out with her. And Sadie, my slightly nervous/sometimes hyper girl settled right in. Thanks Gabi, we’ll see you soon!”

“We can't say enough good things about our dog walker! Otis was taken such good care of. He absolutely loved his walks and especially playing ball. She even cleaned him up after he got a little muddy and brushed him to make sure his fur didn't mat. We're so grateful for her excellent care and attention to detail!”

“Amanda was so good with my dog Freddy who has a high level of separation anxiety. Freddy ended up having a great day at Amanda’s house. She sent me pictures during the day. I highly recommend Amanda to watch your dog.”
“Giannina came through at the last minute to watch my dog for the day. I prefer when sitters send photos and videos because it helps me feel reassured that he is content. She is busy with her children so I didn’t receive any. Anyway, I’m happy he was taken care of.”

About: I took care of dogs growing up, and now dogs are part of my family. My children have also grown up with dogs, helping with training, feeding, brushing, bathing, and playing with our dog. I am a middle school teacher who is home with my family during the summer. My 10 year old son and I are available to welcome your dog into our family life during the summer weeks and on weekends during the school year. We have a large yard with a stream and conservation land behind our house. We enjoy walks in the woods, running around and playing catch in the yard with dogs who stay with us. Inside dogs are allowed on the couch. We are home all day during the summer. We are excited to meet your dog and welcome them into our family life.
“Erica was so awesome! We had a reunion event in Easthampton which required someone to watch our fur baby while we were out and about. Erica was great to communicate with and was so kind to help coordinate drop off and pick up for our pup to make the logistics easier. We loved seeing the Rover card with all the pupdates and great pics. Most importantly, we knew Sugar was in good hands and we could enjoy our event stress-free. We’d definitely recommend Erica any time!”

“Thank you Forough and Amir! We were nervous at first how Russell would do and how he would get along with other dogs, so we were so relieved to hear that he fit right in! We would definitely feel comfortable leaving him with Forough and Amir again and look forward to scheduling another visit!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 256 sitters on Rover offering Doggy Day Care across New Salem. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your New Salem commute.
If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.
Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.
A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.
Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in MA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, Rover is well-suited for finding sitters who can care for your pet within 24 hours. With 256 sitters in New Salem, 86% respond to messages in under an hour.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
