“I had to go out of town unexpectedly and had never used a pet sitter before. Jaden responded almost immediately after I messaged on Tuesday, came for a meet and greet on Wednesday, and was sitting with my dog and cats on Thursday. My dog is very suspicious of everything, and not having used a pet sitter before, I was concerned on how she would react. Jaden was very patient with her. He also kept me updated with pictures and messages on how things were progressing, which made me feel much better. I couldn’t be more pleased with how he cared for my pets and would definitely contact him. Thanks Jaden!”

“Maddie was fantastic- great communication, asked great questions, left our house spotless and skillfully cared for our three somewhat needy cats! Would highly recommend to everyone! Thank you again Maddie!”

About: I have several pets of my own. Over the years I have volunteered with shelters as well as taking care of my own animals. I have dealt with bigger dogs, small dogs, and lots of cats! I love animals and will do whatever I can to ensure a happy and healthy environment! I currently work part time over the summers in Pennsylvania and go to school in Ohio over the rest of the year. I can work in both places, it just depends on what time of year. My account will have my area provided for which one for whichever time of year. Normally I have a 8 hour shift, I do have a couple days off a week and still have plenty of time before and after work to take care of animals. I also have my lunch break. I will follow whatever instructions are provided by the client. I will stick to any dietary needs, exercise needs, and any attention needs the animal has. I am willing to clean litter boxes if it is a cat and obviously I will pick up after a dog on a walk. I keep a very close eye on the animal(s) and make it my primary focus when taking care of them.

About: I've taken care of young and old dogs. I've watched family pets for years and have spent a lot of care on specialized research around animals to ensure I give them the best care I can. I love to play with them, never get bored of watching them and ass I started I pay a lot of attention to detail. I can pick up on all those little details in dogs that many sitters will miss. You could not leave your dog with a safer host. I have a very flexible and open schedule right now. I am willing to work whenever and can plan around caring for your pet. It will be my number one priority. I have an apartment that is free of pets right now so I have the space give your pet some extra room without disruption while they stay with me
“Cristy was wonderful with our very energetic lab mix! We truly appreciated the photos and updates. It gave us peace of mind during our night away. We came home to a happy, tired pup.”

About: Whether they’re a couch potato or a ball of energy, I will match their energy! I have grown up with a zoo in my house with past experiences with ducks, goats, cats, dogs, parakeets, and even a hedgehog! We’ve always had big dogs in our house so I am very comfortable with larger breeds but I can work with pets of all sizes. I also have experience with working with senior and geriatric dogs including those with dementia. I am a graduate student which means I am often extra available during academic breaks when you might be on vacation! As a student, I have class and clinicals 2-4 days a week but will often have a pretty set schedule. It also means that I am usually extra available during academic breaks! I build trust and take things slowly with the animal so that I don’t stress them out. I can find ways or take suggestions on ways to get them to feel relaxed and safe with me. Your pets’ safety and health will be my number one priority.
“We’re so grateful we found Kalea. She stayed in our home and took amazing care of our two Labs while we were away over the 4th of July. She stuck to their routine, which really helped keep them calm and happy, especially during a stressful time. It was obvious they got tons of love and attention while we were gone. We came home to two very content pups! We’ll definitely be booking with her again — highly recommend!”

About: I treat every dog and cat as if they were my own and aim to provide a stress-free, loving experience for both pets and their owners. I'm currently working full time but have the availability to check in on your pet(s) in the morning and then in the evening when I get off work. I do not work weekends so I can even spend a little longer with your pets doing whatever needs to be done. I have nothing but respect for your home and your pets, therefore your pets will be taken care of and your home will be as you left it.
About: I’ve taken care of dogs since I was 5 years old. I have always had a love for dogs. I currently have two dogs and they’re both rescues. It makes my heart happy to have rescued both of them. I treat all dogs as though they are my own and I want the best for all of them. I am now retired and available during the day on weekdays to walk your dog and play with them. I’m available all day on weekends and holidays, depending on my schedule. I’m able to pet-sit in the client’s home. If you’d prefer I watch your pet at my house, I would have to first introduce them to my two dogs to see if they’re compatible.
About: I’ve enjoyed taking care of pets and house sitting since 1998. I’ve had multiple pets at one time including cats, dogs, fish, and guinea pigs. I work remotely, with flexible hours. My down time activities include reading, which makes keeping an eye on furry family members easy and fun. I enjoy getting fresh air and walking which most dogs usually enjoy as well. I can work from most anywhere, so there’s no problem fitting right in to your pets familiar environment. I do need a desk to work from and somewhere to sleep if overnight care is requested.
“Tori is an amazing dog and house sitter. She gave us daily health updates and pictures as well as obviously being devoted to our little fur babies. Our house was in perfect shape when we returned, as were our dogs. They were clearly sad to see her go. You won't do better than Vitoria C!”

About: I am great with all different kinds of dogs or cats! I am also good with medication if needed for the animals. I am also very attentive to animals. I currently do not have a job so I will have a lot of free time for your animals needs! I Usally am a little busy between 12-2 but if needed can push my other stuff back! I am great with dog walking and love taking long walks with animals or just playing with them outside or giving them attention inside also.
“Amelie truly came in clutch when another dog sitter canceled 5 days before my trip. I couldn't have asked for a better person! She was amazing with my HUGE grumpy older dog and my HYPER younger 2 year old...and did I mention they are Rotties?!! She was amazing from start to finish. This is truly the first time I came home from a trip and the dogs seemed well loved and taken care of, no anxiety from them at all. Thanks, Amelie! Rover friends, look no further and book her now...just not when I need her ; )”

About: I’ve had considerable experience with cats and dogs — over 50 years of being around them — and I now share my home with three cats. I’m now starting to offer pet care as a way to earn money, and I’ll come to your place for drop-in visits, overnight stays, and house sitting. I’m also open to caring for other pets. I’m a calm, patient person, and animals really respond to that energy. When I arrive, I make enough noise so pets aren’t startled, then I spend a minute talking with them and reading how they’re feeling before feeding, litter breaks, potty breaks, or play — whatever they need at that moment. I’m comfortable giving shy pets the time they need to warm up. I don’t have much experience with special needs care, but I’m happy to handle meds or anxiety with a steady, reassuring approach. If a dog barks, I’ll soothe them with a calm voice; if they pull on the leash, I’ll pause until they settle; if a pet’s shy, I’ll let them come to me. My schedule is flexible and I can work around your dates, including weekends and holidays. People often tell me they appreciate my calm, thoughtful approach — it helps my pets feel safe and at ease. I’d love to meet your cat or dog! IMPORTANT- I am flexible. 😊 I will do my best to accommodate reasonable requests. We will discuss details when I come to meet your pet(s). My schedule is flexible since I’m retired. I can work around your schedule, or adjust my own to fit what your pet needs. I do have a couple evening meetings each month, and I’m busy on Sunday mornings. About: Ever since I was a very little girl, animals have been the object of my attention. My parents still love to tell stories about how as soon as I could walk, as little as 2, I would walk into pet shops and ask to hold snakes and other “scary” animals. I love them all and have had the luxury of either owning or taking care of every kind of pet. I truly mean every— dogs, cats, fish, turtles, lizards, birds (ducks, rescues, etc), tarantulas, frogs, newts, axolotls, rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, moles, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and I’m sure I’m missing some. I’ve also taken care of an extensive array of bugs. Just ask! While I mainly and primarily care for furry friends— I have lots of experience with other pets. :^) I’m currently only working with Rover and with Wag Caregiver, so I am always at home! I spend all of my time at home with other’s people pets. I am almost exclusively at home. I leave to go to the store and run errands, but otherwise, I’m a complete home body. I don’t have a fenced in yard, but I have a very safe and pet friendly neighborhood to walk your dogs. I do plan to move into my first home within the next 6 months, and will have a fenced in yard then. Aside from that, my home is perfectly equipped for your furry (or maybe not so furry!) companions. They are allowed on almost any and all surfaces. Beds, couches, floors, all.
“Barbara took care of my senior dog while I camped overnight. My pup gets a little stressed when I’m away. I can tell that Barbara took great care of her because she wasn’t anxious when I got home, just happy! She was very friendly and you can tell she really cares for animals. I’ll definitely be booking her again!”

FAQs for House Sitting - New Buffalo
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of June 2026, there are 489 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New Buffalo. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New Buffalo walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New Buffalo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New Buffalo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in New Buffalo. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
