So pleased with my first experience having Lila dog sit our one-year-old Australian Shepard for 2 days in our home. She is very organized, asked good questions to taylor her care, offered good training tips and was successful in getting her to "settle". Most important of all, she formed a lasting bond with her as evidenced by Echo wanting to go into the guest room for several days in a row to look for her, sniff where her belongings were layed, and making me open the closet doors to make sure she wasn't in there! I look forward to having Lila care for our pup again.

About: I’ve been around dogs my whole life, I’ve loved learning how each dog is different and what kind of care they need. I care for my own dog and family friends dogs as well. I am currently unemployed, while doing online schooling full time, I only have zoom meetings Monday and Wednesday from 1:30-2:50 but I am available anytime! I make sure to follow all the owner’s instructions carefully, provide fresh water and food on time, give lots of attention and play, and keep their home clean and safe for the pets. I also watch for any signs of discomfort or health issues and make sure the pets feel comfortable and loved while their owners are away.

While we were a bit apprehensive about leaving Maia for a week (she has rarely been away from us), we left with the fullest confidence that Maia and Itty Bitty would be in great hands. Maia loves Haley, which also made us feel good. Haley sent us photos every day, and shared things that Maia would do. Haley was very flexible on our return time, since our flights home kept getting delayed. When we arrived home, we were welcomed to a sparkling home, and a happy pup! I would have absolutely no worries about leaving Maia if we were to need Haley in the future.

Susan did a wonderful job taking care of our dogs and cats for the weekend. They were well cared for and well loved, as her adorable pictures showed. She was extremely trustworthy, a great communicator and went above and beyond caring for the animals and our house. We are so lucky to have found her and can’t wait to have her come again!

Chris ( Chappy) is amazing. We have two giant (120 and 150 lbs), complicated dogs—one of whom can be aggressive. Plus seizures. This is not an easy situation and we have rejected most sitters. Chappy had the right experience and feel to handle them both. He is also extremely conscientious. He is an experienced dog handler and we are relieved to have found him.

About: Hello I’m a dedicated, honest, and reliable pet sitter/walker. I have loved animals my whole life, my family has always had multiple dogs at a time. I was 16 when I started working at a doggy day care (called stay and play dog care), where I got to work around no less than 15 dogs at a time and I absolutely loved it. I was in charge of walking, feeding, training, playing and occasionally staying the night with them. I have the ability to walk up to 8 dogs at one. I left that job for schooling to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant, I am currently working in the veterinary field but I would love to pet sit in my free time. I have crates and a fenced yard for any time dogs will have to be left alone but I try my best not to leave them while they are in my care. I will care for your pet like one of my own. I am currently home full time so I have all the time in the world to spend with your pets while they’re in my care! While your pets are in my home they will have lots of toys to play with as well as fresh water in several different locations. I do recommend that you bring the food your pet is used to as the less change the better for your animals stress levels.

Tania did a great job taking care of our senior pup who suffers from separation anxiety and doesn’t like to take her meds. Tania was prompt, easy to communicate with before and during her stay, sent lots of pictures, and left our house immaculate. We will definitely use her again.

Peter was very attentive to our Rhodesian Ridgeback, Hijo. It was very clear that he made Hijo his priority and Hijo was so comfortable with him that Peter got to see some of his antics usually reserved for folks he knows well. We felt very confident Peter had everything under control while we stepped away. Jen

Cecelia is awesome! She stayed at my house with my dogs for 4 days, and the house was exactly as I left it when I got home. Her communication and response time were A+. I hadn't ever left my dogs overnight in the 11 years I've had them, so I was an anxious fur momma. My dogs immediately took to Cecelia. In fact, one of them didn't even get off her lap to say goodbye to me! I got daily pictures and updates, and she graciously put up with all my questions. They were happy, healthy, and relaxed when I got home. I highly recommend Cecelia and will definitely be booking her again.

We are so fortunate to have found a capable, confident, positive, ready-for-anything companion for our handful of a dog! Andrea met our dog’s needs and handled his quirks with aplomb. Her daily photos and our dog’s happy, healthy appearance on our return confirmed our initial impressions of Andrea. She is a timely and forthright communicator who provided us with peace of mind when we were far from home. We are grateful!

She's super responsive, sends updates and pictures, and takes care of everything around my house...and always leaves it very clean! Lauren also seems to genuinely enjoy spending time with my furry friends, and for that I am very grateful! I always feel 100% comfortable and confident when Lauren is my pet and house sitter! Thank you, Lauren!

First time to use Rover for in home dog sitting. Rissa stayed with our finicky dog for 10 days and quickly won his heart. Rissa was flexible and quickly solved the unexpected issues. Her dog care background benefitted our dog and she added to his toy collection with toys he greatly appreciated. Rissa also took wonderful care of our house and garden in the midst of a heatwave. I fully appreciate and recommend Rissa and Rover.com.

About: 🐾Why I love pet sitting I love that pet sitting allows me to combine companionship, responsibility, and a slower, more present way of living. Every animal has their own routine and personality, and I enjoy learning what makes each one feel comfortable and happy. Whether that means going for a walk, spending quiet time together, playing, or simply keeping them company, I want the animals in my care to feel at home and well loved. I also understand how important it is to feel comfortable leaving your pets with someone else. My goal is to provide dependable care while respecting the routines and instructions that each pet parent has established. ✨About me I have worked for myself off and on since 2015, with a background in fashion design and printmaking. My creative work has always given me an appreciation for detail, patience, and working independently. In my 20s, I lived in a meditation community, where I practiced daily yoga and developed a deeper appreciation for mindfulness, simplicity, and being present. I eventually found my way into pet sitting in 2022 while living in Phoenix. Since then, caring for animals has become a very meaningful part of my life. I have since moved back to California and now dedicate most of my time to caring for animals. I genuinely enjoy getting to know each animal’s personality and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their people are away. My pet care & house-sitting routine When I house sit, I like to keep your pets’ normal routine as consistent as possible. My days typically include: * 🐾 Morning: Feedings, fresh water, potty break, and a morning walk or outdoor time. * 🐾 Throughout the day: Potty breaks, playtime, enrichment, cuddles, and plenty of companionship. * 🐾 Evening: Dinner, another walk or outdoor time, and settling into their usual nighttime routine. * 🐾 House care: Bring in the mail and packages, water plants as needed, take out trash, and keep the home clean and tidy. * 🐾 Updates: I’m happy to send photos and updates so you know how everyone is doing while you’re away. I’m flexible and always happy to follow your pets’ specific routines, needs, and preferences. When I stay in a client’s home, I treat it with the same care and respect I would my own. My priority is keeping your pets comfortable and maintaining their normal routine as closely as possible. I make sure they receive their meals on schedule, fresh water, regular potty breaks, walks, play and enrichment, and plenty of affection and companionship. I pay attention to their individual personalities and needs, whether they want lots of activity and attention or prefer a quieter, more relaxed day. I do leave the house periodically for my own errands, walks, or activities, but I make sure your pets receive dedicated one-on-one time throughout the day and aren’t simply left alone for long periods. While I’m there, I also keep the home tidy, bring in mail and packages, take out trash, and take care of any agreed-upon household tasks. I’m respectful of your space and routines, and I’ll keep you updated with photos and messages so you can feel confident that your pets—and your home—are being well cared for.

FAQs for House Sitting - Middletown

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 671 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Middletown. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Middletown walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Middletown maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Middletown choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Middletown. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
