“Katie is an exceptional pet sitter. We would 100 % recommend her. She asked good questions and listened well, taking the absolute best care of our dog Maeve. Kind hearted and knowledgeable, I wouldn’t hesitate to entrust any animal to her care. Well done Katie!”

“Gabriel was fantastic! After several attempts at a house sitter and watching our two dogs, one of them large, Gabriel took the stress off of us during our vacation. Great communication, lots of pictures, and the house was well cared for. Highly recommend Gabriel!!!”

“David was really great with our dog and two cats. He was very attentive, responsive and provided frequent and detailed photo updates which was very appreciated. David brought a very calm energy to looking after our pets, which was very helpful considering our dog can be quite anxious. I would highly recommend booking David for your petsitting needs. For us, it was our first time using Rover, so we were a little cautious to make sure we got the right person. I felt super at ease with David, and comfortable that he was taking good care of our animals. I will definitely look to him in the future!”

“Aileen did an amazing job taking care of Dolly! She took the time to learn Dolly’s habits and preferences, and Dolly was immediately at ease with her. We felt completely comfortable leaving for the evening knowing Dolly was in her care. Aileen was communicative, kind, and incredibly easy to work with—we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend!”

About: I’ve spent several years caring for pets as part of my work as a nanny and personal assistant, so I’m very used to routines, communication, and handling animals with patience. I’ve cared for high-energy breeds like German Shepherds and Dobermans, as well as small dogs, seniors, and puppies. What sets me apart is that I’m calm, dependable, and observant, I notice changes in behavior, appetite, or energy right away. I’m comfortable with crate routines, structured walks, feeding schedules, basic commands, and keeping dogs mentally stimulated. I’ve also handled senior-dog needs like slow walks, medication reminders, and gentle mobility support. When I house-sit, I treat your home with the same respect I treat my own. I keep things tidy, follow your instructions carefully, and send regular updates and photos so you always feel connected and confident your pup is happy and safe. Whether your dog needs long walks, quiet company, playtime, or extra patience, I adapt to each pet’s personality to help them feel secure while you’re away. I’m currently in nursing school remotely, which means my schedule is very flexible and I’m home the majority of the day. When I’m house-sitting, your dog gets consistent company, supervision, and attention, I’m not someone who will be in and out all day. If I ever need to step out for a quick errand or class requirement, I always communicate ahead of time. I believe in being respectful of your home and completely transparent about my schedule, so you’ll always know what to expect. Because my program is online, I’m able to structure my study time around your pet’s needs: walks, playtime, feeding, medication, and potty breaks. This setup lets me provide calm, consistent care while keeping your dog’s routine as stable and stress-free as possible. When I care for pets in your home, I keep everything calm, safe, and consistent. I follow your dog’s routine exactly: feeding schedule, walk times, crate rules, and any house guidelines you prefer. I’m especially careful with doors, gates, and outdoor time, and I handle strong or high-energy dogs confidently. I keep your home tidy, pick up after pets right away, and treat your space with respect. Throughout the stay, I send regular updates and photos so you always feel connected and comfortable while you’re away. My goal is to make your dog feel secure in their familiar environment and give you complete peace of mind.
“Kat was amazing with our pup and so respectful of our home! She is organized, professional and super caring. It made our weekend away super easy knowing our house and dog were well taken care of. Thank you, Kat!!”

About: I've fostered dogs in my home and cared for dogs and cats in other people's homes and am excited to do more of both! I got into housesitting several months ago and love getting to spend focused time and attention on animals while their people are away. While fostering dogs, I worked on light training - improving walking manners, comfort with strangers, and basic commands. I cared for my dogs for a few weeks to several months until they were adopted and loved getting updates from their new families about their progress. I make time for your animals as they need it! I work part time, which allows plenty of time for walks, playing fetch, cuddle sessions, and on-time meals. If temperament allows, I’ll take your pup with me to dog-friendly spots in town and along longer walking paths and trails. I'm new to California and settling in the area. I'm excited to explore different neighborhoods, meet cool people, and spend time with your furry friends. If I’m staying in your home, I’m in your best friend’s space. Whatever they’re used to, is what they’ll get, whether that’s permission (or not) to get on furniture, sleep with me in bed, and set our walking schedule.
“Melina came through for a last minute request to watch my dog Sequoia. She was extremely responsive. We did a meet and greet right away and she stayed at my house and watched Sequoia. She was totally fine with Sequoia's reactivity and they got along great. She left the house tidy.”

“Melany pet sat my four animals for me for an overnight. She was easy to communicate with before the sit, took lots of cute pictures during, and left my house very clean. I came home to happy animals all around. Would highly recommend for any of your needs on Rover!”
“Victoria was wonderful to work with. She took great care of my dogs and house while I was on vacation. She communicated often, sent pictures and fulfilled the needs of my dogs. She’s warm and lovely and I plan on using her again in the future.”

“I recently had Madison house sit and pet sit for nearly two weeks, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She took wonderful care of my cat, playing with him multiple times a day and regularly sending pictures so I always knew how he was doing. It's clear she genuinely loves animals. I came home to a happy, relaxed cat, just as I had left him. Madison was also incredibly responsive throughout the stay. Any time I had a question, she replied quickly and put my mind at ease. She also left the house in great shape, which I really appreciated. Leaving your pet with someone new can be a worrisome experience, but I never felt anxious once with Madison. I was completely at ease knowing my cat and home were in such capable, caring hands. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, attentive pet sitter, and I will absolutely be hiring her again without hesitation.”

“We couldn’t be more thankful for Suzy who came in on an extremely short notice situation when our normal sitter wasn’t able to make it. She was amazing with our puppy and just an amazing person and a truly nice and caring addition to our puppies small little world. We will most certainly be having her back into our home to take care of our little guy diesel. We are so looking forward to booking with Suzy again and wish we could give her six stars. Also her communication was excellent within five minutes of submitting a request she called and we talked on the phone and she made me feel comfortable and safe with her in our home and with our fur baby.”

About: I’ve taken care of animals for as long as I can remember, through every stage of their lives. Growing up with dogs, they have always been like family to me. I’ve had experience with all different kinds of dogs and cats and have also worked at a doggy daycare / boarding center. Spending time with furry friends never feels like work to me. I am fortunate to live at home where I know my own dog is always cared for when I am away, so I can confidently care for yours too! I always enjoy being able to go for walks and make visits during the day in between managing my other responsibilities. As a student, I typically have more availability in the afternoons and evenings. I am happy to visit and walk with your pups during the day, providing them each the individual care that they deserve. I am open to doing group walks as well, depending on your pet’s preferences. I am also able to pet sit, where I can care for your fur babies in the comfort of their own home!
“Xaniah took wonderful care of our two dogs, Ella and Mia, while we were away on vacation. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing they were in good hands. We especially appreciated all of the photo updates throughout our trip—they made it so much easier to relax knowing our girls were happy and doing well. Thank you for taking such great care of them! We wouldn’t hesitate to book with you again and highly recommend Xaniah to anyone looking for a caring and reliable pet sitter.”

About: I’ve had dogs my whole life, but I’ve had experience taking care of dogs on a dairy farm which got a little rowdy at times. I’m currently starting a job that will hopefully be full-time But might be a little shaky for a couple months so I’ll have a lot of free time to walk your dogs! I have a fenced yard and two dogs that are friendly for your puppy dog to play with. And if they just need a walk I will make sure that that puppy will have the best sleep after.
“Tania is fabulous. I came home to a tidy house and happy dogs. She kept me up to date with photos and news on the pups daily. I will hire Tania again. This was also very last minute and I was able to trust her right away. I am very thankful I took a chance with Rover. It worked out well.”

FAQs for House Sitting - McGill
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 7,024 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across McGill. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred McGill walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in McGill maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in McGill choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in McGill. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
