About: I’ve taken care of my family’s animal since I was a kid. Looking forward to taking care of of your pet’s needs in the future. I work remotely and can be flexible. I can do same day care if needed. Let me know how best I can serve you today. I will show the utmost respect for your home and your pet while at your home. I know it can be difficult to trust someone with these things.
“It was such a lovely experience—everything went so smoothly. This was my first time having a dog sitter come to the house, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Levi was so excited to see Dustin, which said everything. You can tell he genuinely loves dogs. Overall, a fantastic experience!”

“Stefanie is the first house sitter I've ever had in my long history of being a dog Mom. I am wondering what took me so long to choose home comforts over a kennel for my dog Rosie because Stefanie is all that I wanted in a house sitter. When I had to change the reservation last minute, Stefanie was completely understanding and accepting of the change. I know that Rosie was in the best of care and I loved Stefanie's daily pictures and updates. I didn't worry about my pet at all. Stefanie is very neat, respectful, and responsive. I will definitely ask her back.”

About: I had a dog as a child. I have had dogs for over 35 years. They are great company and a great addition to any family. I am retired. My time would be totally devoted to spending time with your pet(s). I look forward to giving you the comfort that your pets are well-cared for while you are not home. My pets at home are pretty spoiled. They are not crated and we play inside and outside. Whatever the owners require is what I will do. Unfortunately, my most recent dog died of cancer. I miss her; but look forward to taking good care of other people’s pets.
“Amy did a super job taking care of my two Yorkshire dogs. She sent me pictures each day and let me know how they were doing. I appreciate they were able to stay at home and play each day in their own yard. Amy also brought in my mail and a package that was delivered and let me know it arrived. It was great to have her services so I didn't have any concerns while I was away. I highly recommend her.”

“Kaitlyn was amazing with Melvin! She came in very last minute to help care for him when I had multiple competing priorities. She kept him calm and happy and took him on a great walk. Very happy!”
“Kat was greet watching our 3 dogs! Completely put my mind at ease knowing they were taken care of for the week! And we got pictures everyday! Would highly recommend Kat and our dogs would too! I think they miss her already!”

About: Hi, we’re Eric and Cassie! We’re passionate animal lovers and proud pet parents to a loving, goofy Golden Retriever. We understand that pets are family, and we know how important it is to find someone you can trust with their care. We would love the opportunity to provide your furry friends with the attention, affection, and care they deserve while giving you peace of mind. Whether it's walks, playtime, cuddles, or sticking to your pet's routine, we’ll treat them as if they were our own. We look forward to meeting you and your pets! 🐾 Eric is currently only taking grad classes over the summer so his schedule is very flexible. We are both very active individuals so we love going for multiple walks daily and would love to fit your pet into our cadence. Eric am 6'4 and able to handle dogs big and small on a leash. As a Special Educator (and dog owner), I am familiar with positive reinforcement and use it when walking dogs. Cassie has grown up taking care of her neighbors animals while they were on vacation and loves to spend time playing with them, sitting with them and getting their energy out.
“Caitlin was fantastic! Our pets absolutely loved her, she shared plenty of photos and updates during the short stayl Couldn't ask for more and we'll definitely be using her again.”

About: I am new to Rover :)) I have taken care of dogs since high school. I graduated college in 2023 with a degree in Health Sciences. I am currently working as an aide at a physical therapy clinic, and looking to make extra money. I love pet sitting and caring for animals is one of my strong suits. I am always willing to accommodate you and your dogs needs and I will always care for them like they are my own! I am currently working part-time so I will have plenty of time to care for your fur babies! I am a home body, so I am always at home and also have my mom and grandmom in the home to help if need be. In a clients home, I will leave it completely up to you, how I walk, feed, crate, etc. your dog. But I will always care for your dog as if they were my own! For pet sitting at my home, I do not have a fenced in yard but I usually walk the dogs on leashes around my yard or take them to the park by my house to walk them. I can crate them anywhere in the home if needed. I also have plenty of dog toys/crates/ dog accessories from my own dog.
About: I have taken care of many dogs and cats before. Pets are man’s best friend and I believe they deserve getting excellent care. Dogs and cats of all breeds, shapes and sizes will get above and beyond good quality care. I do have a full time job, my hours are Monday-Friday 7AM-3:30PM, and I have church obligations on Sunday mornings, but I am happy to coordinate availability outside of those times. I work a consistent weekday schedule from 7:00am–3:30pm, which allows me to provide reliable evening care, walks, and overnight house sitting. I am also available most weekends and can accommodate advance scheduling. I focus on building trust with both pets and owners by maintaining clear communication, consistent routines, and attentive supervision. I respect each pet’s personality and adjust care to their individual needs.
About: I have cared for both small dogs and medium sized dogs. Have implemented special diets (Farmer's Dog) given medications through food or a treat. Assisted in foster care. Can follow leash and harness preferences and always have poop bags on the ready. I have slept beside puppies who are needy throughout the night. I am a full time K-12 art teacher so I would be available for any pet care services mostly on the weekends and few selected nights throughout the week. I would stay in the areas of the home that the pet is residing and or whichever areas that the client feels comfortable with. Example being the living room or dining room.
About: I’ve worked at 2 doggy daycares and actively watch 4 families dogs/houses I watch multiple times a year, varying from 1 day to 10 days depending how long they decide I am a direct care worker of a man with Parkinson’s 6-2 during the day, so I usually take care of the dogs first thing, then when I’m back from work, I have the rest of the day to hang out and play with them or take care of whatever is needed to be taken care of I have a fenced in yard, I won’t be able to bring your dog to my house, but as I’m taking care of your dog and house I will make sure to abide and follow any rules you’ve set for me

About: I’ve had pets since I was 7, trained my first dog at 3 months to sit, paw, lay down, and use the doggy door. For about 5 years I had 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a bird who were all loved *nearly* equally. As they have got older, I have experience with senior dogs and cats as well as pups. I am a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago and I volunteer at a local no-kill animal shelter/adoption center, PAWS Chicago, where I socialize and care for puppies and kittens. I am a college student currently home for the summer so I have loads of downtime to care for pups! For walks and house visits, I am available after 8am any day of the week. In any new environment, I approach new animals calmly and slowly to gauge their feelings or stress-level to earn trust. I can leash dogs with ease for walks and cleanup any mess they may have made. If needed, I can crate before leaving or complete feedings/give medicine if given instructions.
“Highly recommend! Responsive, proactive and pleasant to work with. She stayed at my house for 10 days with 2 dogs and a tortoise :-) will use Brooke again for sure!”

“Eva was amazing! She sent me pictures morning and night of my dogs. When I came home, my house was in perfect shape and my dogs were happy. I highly recommend Eva! Thanks so much for taking such great care of Oreo and Jackson. We will definitely use you again!!!”

“Jarris was great with our two pups. One of them stops eating when we leave and he did everything possible to make her feel comfortable. He communicated well and often about how they were doing.”

“This was Morgan’s third stay with our Jenny. We had a flight delay getting home from Europe and Morgan was able to help us out so we did not have to worry about Miss Jenny with all the flight chaos that was going on. Highly recommend her.”

FAQs for House Sitting - Mainland
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of July 2026, there are 5,691 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Mainland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Mainland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Mainland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Mainland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Mainland. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
