Lauren did a phenomenal job with our fur babies. From the time she replied to our request she took the time to listen and understand our challenges. Then she came over and took the time to familiarize herself with both of our babies ensuring there wouldn’t be any issues. Great job and great person.

Kayden was great! You can tell she has a way of getting pets to quickly get close with her. My pup Roman is battling isolation anxiety, and was very happy to have Kayden come by. Not only that, but she went above and beyond with updates and even keeping my house very tidy! She goes above and beyond. I am super grateful for her and will be rebooking :)

About: Hi there! I’m Justine — a super friendly, animal-loving pet sitter with 8 years of veterinary assistant experience. 🐾 I am new to Rover. Just moved here to North Carolina recently! I have a deep passion for caring for pets of all shapes, sizes, and ages — from playful puppies to senior companions needing a little extra love. I share my home with 3 dogs and 2 cats of my own, so I truly understand how much your pets mean to you — they’re family, and I’ll treat them like my own. With my vet background, I’m very comfortable giving medications (oral, topical, or injectable), handling special needs pets, and understanding animal behavior. Whether your pet is anxious, high-energy, or shy, I’ll make sure they feel safe and cared for. You can count on me for: ✔️ Reliable, loving care ✔️ A calm, experienced hand for nervous pets ✔️ Updates with photos and messages to give you peace of mind ✔️ Lots of playtime, snuggles, and personalized attention I look forward to meeting your furry family and being someone you can trust again and again! I do currently work full time throughout the week in Huntersville and generally have weekends off. I am off Tuesday’s as well. I am flexible and starting to save for radiology school. When caring for pets in their home, my goal is to keep them feeling safe, loved, and comfortable by maintaining their regular routine as closely as possible. 🦴 For drop-ins, I’ll make sure your pet is fed on schedule, has fresh water, gets a potty break or litter box cleaned, and gets one-on-one attention through play, snuggles, or quiet companionship — whatever they enjoy most. 🐾 For dog walks, I focus on safe, fun, and enriching walks that match your dog’s pace and energy level. I always watch for signs of stress, avoid unsafe areas or encounters, and make sure they come home happy and tired. 🏡 For house sitting, I provide full-time love and supervision, keeping your pet’s day-to-day life as normal as possible — meals, walks, play, medication if needed, and bedtime routines. I also respect and care for your home like it’s my own: clean, secure, and neat when you return. With 8 years of experience as a veterinary assistant, I’m very comfortable with pets of all ages and medical needs, including giving medications and recognizing early signs of illness or stress. I always send regular updates with photos so you can relax knowing your pet is in good hands

About: Hello Families! My name is Aaliyah, and I am a 20-year-old community college student transitioning from a career in hospital housekeeping to providing in-home care for dogs, cats, and babies. My passion for caring for all creatures runs deep, and I treat each one with the same love and attention as if they were my own. Over the years, I've gained valuable experience caring for a variety of dogs, from playful puppies to gentle pit bulls. Additionally, I have been babysitting my nephew since his birth, dedicating at least 18 hours a day to his care. He is now four months old, and this experience has enriched my understanding of infant care. I also have experience dog sitting for my neighbors while they were out of town, which has been incredibly rewarding. It brings me joy to know that I am helping families by providing peace of mind and comfort, knowing they can trust me with their beloved pets and children. If my skills and availability meet your needs, I would love the opportunity to work with your family. I am available seven days a week, from morning to overnight, and can adjust my schedule upon request. My pay rate ranges from $100 to $150 daily. I look forward to the possibility of working with you and providing exceptional care for your loved ones! Warm regards, Aaliyah I am currently looking for a job in the sitting community. I am available upon request. As well as being flexible to fit what’s best. Your fur babies will love my neighborhood. Every corner you’ll see someone with their own. If you animals don’t like others that’s okay because they’re welcome in my house as if they’re my own!

About: What sets me apart from other pet sitters is my natural ability to understand a dog’s demeanor and adapt to each dog’s individual personality and needs. As a dog owner myself, I have hands-on experience caring for and training two dogs. I successfully potty-trained both of my dogs and taught them a variety of tricks, commands, and skills. My patience, attentiveness, and ability to build trust with animals allow me to provide personalized, compassionate care for every dog I look after. Currently I am in school part time so I have plenty of time to play with pups and give them a happy, healthy, fun day away from their family. I have two friendly pups Oreo and Ozzie that loves all animals and caring for our pups is an important responsibility because they depend on us for their health, safety, and happiness. Dogs provide unconditional love and companionship, so they deserve to be treated with the same kindness and care they give to us. That’s how I care for all animals. I truly am a lover of all pets.

About: I have watched a friend’s mature dog in her home while a family member was hospitalized. I have always had rescue animals in my home it is always been a priority for me to love animals and treat them with the respect that is so well-deserved. I have two rescue kitties that I care for every day. I am semi retired, spend special time with my fur babies and exercise every day. I would like to rescue a dog, but if I could spend time and love other people's pets, it would be a very rewarding experience. Since I have two kitties, I prefer to care for pets in the clients homes. My one kitty is 16 years old and I don’t want to subject her to change an environment. Every morning, I am greeted by my kitties, before eating breakfast I give them their morning treats. After exercising in the afternoon, it is dinner time for them so I feed them, they nap and then we bond later in the evening, while one sits near me and the other one sits on my lap. Having cared for several dogs in the past, I take them for walks, engage in playtime and take time to bond. At one point in my lifetime I had three rescue dogs who all got along famously. They were an extension of my family and sadly, eventually passed from old age. I will love your dogs in the same way and treat them with kindness and respect. Their comfort and security are my main concern, along with your peace of mind, knowing that they are safe and secure.

Johnathan cared for Abby over Christmas and was absolutely amazing—we couldn’t be more thankful for him. He was incredibly responsive, extremely supportive of her needs, and his professional background working with animals really showed. Our dog normally struggles when we leave due to separation anxiety; however, it was clear she felt comfortable with him, as her routine—including her bathroom schedule—remained completely the same. He truly went above and beyond for us, and we felt completely at ease knowing Abby was in such capable hands.

FAQs for House Sitting - Long Island

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Long Island on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 1,990 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Long Island. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Long Island walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Long Island maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Long Island choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Long Island. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
