Iví was a fantastic pet sitter while my wife and I were away for the weekend! They were able to accommodate us on short notice, and were communicative, friendly, responsible, and left the house in tip-top shape. It was clear that they are a big animal person, and I felt at ease knowing that my pets were well cared for and having a blast. I would absolutely recommend Iví!!!

Maggie did a terrific job with our 5 mo. old Westie, Archie! She came at the last minute when our original sitter did not show up. She said she enjoyed meeting Archie and that he was always near her. She was patient with a feisty, semi house trained pup from Wed. afternoon till Friday a.m. She really accommodated us at the last minute so we could get away as planned. She sent us updates and photos and reassured us that though we were leaving Archie for the first time, he was well taken care of. We will ask her to be Archie's sitter again. Thank you, Maggie!

I am very friendly with them and know my way around taking care of them! I strive to be the best and most responsible pet parent | can possibly be, and when your pets are in my care I will give them the same dedication. I will provide your pets with all of the unconditional attention and love that they need while you are gone. Whether you have a fenced in yard or not, I will keep them safe with me! The safety of your pet is my number one priority. I always use the best practices, I believe in positive reinforcement, and do not use any cruel methods. I would like to know if your dog or cat has any behavioral issues such as reactivity, aggression, a bite history, etc. I would also like to know of any specific medical conditions that your pet has. We felt very comfortable with Colin coming to look after our doggies. We had a very good meet and greet. Colin was thorough in asking about our needs for our pets. He was willing to adjust our schedule for a slight change. We received a cute photo of Milo while we were away. A wonderful experience with a delightful and thoughtful care giver!

About: Experienced pet-sitter with a widely flexible schedule available for any needs you may have for your pet! On top of pet-sitting and day trip/walking experience I have experience as an assistant groomer from working for The Green Groomer in Northampton, MA which you are welcome to get in touch with as a reference. I also worked at a Dog Daycare in the Boston area before moving to Western MA, where I was involved with many responsibilities surrounding the pups including providing their meals, pick-ups/drop-offs, de-escalation of conflict, and general moderation of behavior. Working in this field has granted me the opportunity to work with dogs of all temperaments, ages, and sizes and has taught me how to interact with pups from all walks of life. On top of that I have experience with bathing, nails, and ear cleanings from my time at the Green Groomer. My schedule is extremely flexible, with open availability during the week before 3PM, making check-ins during the work day hassle free, and my shift never getting out later than 10:30PM, so overnight boardings are still not a problem during my work week. I also have Friday-Sundays off so long weekend boardings are always an option. Please let me know in advance of any house rules for your pup (i.e furniture rules, dietary restrictions, routine scheduling) and I will be sure to follow them with the same consistency you would. In regards to boarding with me they would be boarded in a pet-free, smoke-free, child-free condo with a large unfenced yard in the back for leashed outings when needed!

About: I have experience in veterinary clinics as an assistant, technician, and at the front desk for a combined 3+ years. I have done petsitting for 16 years. I am well-versed in animal body language and I have experience handling pets of many temperaments, including anxious, reactive, senior, and medically complex animals. I’m comfortable administering medications, monitoring for signs of illness or stress, and helping pets feel safe. My background in veterinary medicine has taught me the importance of patience, reliability, and attentive care, and I treat every animal as if they were my own. My schedule is very pet-care friendly, and I’m used to building my daily routine around animals’ needs. I’m experienced with feeding schedules, walks, medications, playtime, enrichment, and monitoring animal behavior and health. We’ve had quite a few sitters over the years, and Kendra is the best! So professional and easy to work with. I booked our travel (flights, rental car, everything!) for the wrong week, and she was still able to work with us even though I realized it last minute and had to make changes. So grateful to have found her!!

About: I’ve had pets since I was about 4 years old, and am experienced with caring for cats and dogs. Any needs they have, I will take care of them all - from simple company when you're at work, to walks, giving meds and overnight stays! I have experience training puppies too, from potty training to the classic "stay", "sit", "come", "leave" etc. commands. I have a large dog myself so size of your pet is no issue. Anything you're unsure about, shoot me a message! I work full time at a school but am free weekdays after 2pm until around 10pm. On weekends I am free from Friday afternoon until Monday morning so I can do overnight stays too if needed. Depending on the care required, I will feed pets, give them meds, take them outside, play games/fetch/etc., brush them, empty litter boxes and so on. I have had several cats and dogs of my own and cared for many more, so I am comfortable with adjusting to their different personality types.

We have an elderly and blind jack russel terrior who has a bit of an attitude and can be reluctant to get out and about but needs it. After meeting Bree I felt assured that she would do a great job taking care of our dog and the house. I was not disappointed. She sent me text updates and pictures which reassured me while I was away and asked questions as necessary. Most importantly, my dog was happy and content in the photos and when we got home. I will be a repeat customer.

During the semester I can do most weekends, and can do morning and night shifts during the weekdays. Once the summer starts I can do all days. I am good at following owners instructions. If dogs need crated or need training I am capable of doing that. I also can walk dogs and keep them safe.

About: I am an active human and love the companionship of dogs for walks and hikes, as well as a snuggle on the couch. I have cared for puppies as well as senior dogs. I am currently unemployed and have a lot of flexibility in my schedule as well as appreciate the routine of pet care to help me build routine of my own in this moment of unemployment. It is important for me to learn before caring for a pet about their quirks and it is my goal to build trust both with you and your furry friend

FAQs for House Sitting - Leyden

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 415 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Leyden. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Leyden walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Leyden maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Leyden choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Leyden. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 93% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
