“Amber did a great job caring for our two dogs and cat. The dogs took to her right away. We know the cat approved because she slept with her! Amber kept us updated on how they were doing with texts and photos. Amber was with our ‘kids’ for 3 days and we noticed that the dogs were happy to see us but not crazy excited as they would get when boarded. That in itself was a good sign. We’ll definitely have Amber back.”

“Shannon took great care of my dogs and house. She communicated well with us while we were gone. We were provided pictures of our furry babies. My dogs were happy and healthy when we got home.”

About: Animals have been a huge part of my life since I was young—I love critters of all kinds and I am willing to learn how to care for any animal who needs a companion. Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, rats, fish, you name it! I have owned pets of my own since I was about 10—fish, hamsters, cats, even ant colonies and pillbugs—and I began to petsit for neighbors as a teenager. I'm generally capable of regular house visits, keeping a punctual schedule, engaging in play & enrichment any way I can, bathing animals of any size, and adapting to the needs of any animal in my care. I am not able to consistently walk very high-energy dogs, but if you have an enclosed yard I'm more than happy to let your pet(s) get his or her energy out there. I'm great with low-energy animals who need a cuddle buddy or somebody to simply share a space with. I'm willing to do overnights, week+ long stays, and jobs with multiple pets. My schedule is very flexible to the needs of your pets, but I do have animals of my own to care for at home. I typically do not like to leave clients' pets alone for more than 4 hours at a time during the day, so you can expect regular visits within that time frame. I like to have lots of options for play & exercise with your pet. I don't take pets home, but I'm happy to supervise your pet in a fenced yard or a nearby park! I enjoy snuggles & handling small enclosure pets like rodents, and I'm willing to learn how to provide enrichment for any animal. I'm very strict about sticking to a feeding schedule, but I do like to give plenty of treats throughout the day if health allows. I try to keep clean as much as possible—bathing pets, regularly vacuuming/mopping, emptying litter, brushing fur and teeth, etc.
About: Between growing up with cats and dogs, a parrot, horses, rabbits, and a tortoise, working with dogs in 4-H, showing my dog at the fair in the highest level of obedience, loving and caring for puppies, senior, blind, and deaf dogs, pet sitting for my neighbors and community members growing up, and working with clients through Rover doing drop in visits for walks, play time, feeds, and overnight house sits as well, I've become a well rounded animal caretaker and lover. Back at home after 9 months of traveling Asia, I am currently a free bird when it comes to scheduling, so please reach out with any requests for assistance meeting your pet care needs. With much TLC, tender loving care is how I care for pets. Additionally, I love for animals to be outside and so do I. My old dog and I used to go on so many hikes and swim in all of the creeks, having so much fun playing in the mountains. Despite enjoying dogs free of leashes, when I am walking dogs, I like to walk them on-leash as risk management to prevent unpredictable bad situations from arising.

I am free on weekends and am willing to stay the night with pets any day of thr week I can accommodate your pet in whatever way or capacity is needed. I am well versed in animal care and am willing to do whatever is necessary to give your pet the most comfortable experience while you and your family are away

“Cassy was amazing! From the initial meet-and-greet, it was clear how experienced and caring she is with animals. While I was away, Cassy kept me completely at ease with updates, photos, and prompt communication. My dogs (Ellie, Theo, Delano) instantly warmed up to her and they were treated like royalty. She was also willing and able to accommodate the medical needs of one of my dogs, applying eyedrops several times a day as is needed in their care routine. Needless to say, I came home to happy, relaxed pets! I cannot recommend Cassy enough and I will definitely be booking them again in the future!”

About: For the past 10 years of my life, I have cared for multiple different breeds and sizes of dogs ranging from 5 pounds to 100 pounds. I give the upmost care possible to ensure that all dogs are happy, healthy, and having fun. I have experience, caring for senior dogs as well as different energy levels. Under whatever level of care you require, you will come back to a happy pet and a safe home. I currently work part-time between 20 and 30 hours a week but I have a very flexible schedule, and I am free for most of the day and night. I’m currently saving money to be able to go to university in one to two years so during my time in your house I’ll most likely be studying or knitting as a way to decompress after work. I’m dedicated to safety and comfort of pets and owners so as long as I have instructions and a quick conversation, I will be able to follow any guidelines you set for me. I do have experience caring for senior dogs and will be able to follow a medication schedule if needed.
“Jason was wonderful with our dogs! He came and stayed in our home so the pups could be in their own environment while we were away, and they loved every minute with him. We got so many videos and pictures from him too! And I think my house was cleaner than when we left! Jason is trustworthy and we will definitely be using him again in the future. Jazzy and Junior say thanks Jason!!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 124 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Lakehead. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Lakehead walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Lakehead maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Lakehead choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Lakehead. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 92% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
