“Pamela quickly became like part of the family. Elliott was so excited to see her each day. She gave him plenty of entertainment, and was attentive and appropriate in her care. We were able to leave Elliott with her with perfect peace of mind knowing he was in competent and caring hands.”

“Dixie and her husband took care of my 5 mos old puppy for 7 days. They took care of Kirby like he was theirs. At one point Kirby had a bad night( anxiety from his parents leaving) and her husband stayed up with him most all night just trying to keep him happy and make him feel safe I will definitely use them again. Dixie stopped by a few days later to pick up something she had left and Kirby went crazy when she came in. He was very excited to see her and was jumping all over her so I would take that as his seal of approval too.”

“First time I used a house sitter to take care of our pets. Our cat needed a medication and Lillie got her to take it which is not an easy feat! Lillie is easy to communicate with and I felt comfortable leaving our pets and my house in her care.”

“Elizabeth doesn't just sit your dogs she adopts them. Our Ella got very sick while we were gone and Elizabeth took such good care of her and kept us informed. I really can't say enough about how Elizabeth went out of her way to take care of our sick girl, her genuine concern and compassion was matched by actions.”

“Leandra was an amazing sitter for our many dogs! We had lots of instructions and she followed them perfectly. She took photos and videos, and she communicated with me very well! I’d be happy to book her again.”

“Darby and MK are an absolute delight. My Mishka is happy, well fed, loved and enjoyed tons of walks!! My house is better than when i left it! I really appreciate the communication and pictures. I 100% recommend them for all your pet needs.”

“Our experience with Mary as our dog sitter was first rate. She took excellent care of our Havanese, Gucci. She stayed at our home overnight and she was exceptional. She is very kind, trustworthy and our dog didn’t even realize we were away due to Mary’s sweet demeanor with her. We will call on Mary again when the need arises. We highly recommend her without hesitation.”

About: I grew up with a house full of dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, birds - you name it and we had it. I was always the neighborhood kid who took care of the neighbors pets. As an adult, I’ve had cats and several breeds of dogs, including several who have not been dog-friendly, some who were runners, and one Shepard who I couldn’t ever fully trust with other humans. I’m clean, quiet, and super respectful - full introvert - and I work from home with a relaxed schedule - so all of these things kind of line up for me to pet sit! I’m very professional, I own a company and do all of the work from home and we have a very high reputation for professionalism, which starts with me. I’m also an EMT (I pick up shifts on occasion but never when I’m pet sitting), which means, I take safety and healthy very seriously and you have to pass an intense background check to stay certified (at the FBI level) and so you can rest assured I don’t have a hidden background. I’m also involved in my communities and am on the board of a nonprofit and volunteer for others. My main job is very easy going. I own a company and can work from anywhere I have good wifi. I rarely have virtual meetings that last more than 60 minutes and so I am able to closely monitor and/or walk/bathroom pets. I have EMS commitments on Mondays and occasionally other days- so just reach out and I’ll confirm my schedule. Safety, trust, and respect are some of the most important principles in this line of work and it has been a core part of my life and profession. The company I own is a travel company and we take customers to 35 countries around the world and so I fully understand how valuable safety and trust is. I could go on-and-on about how EMS is rooted in safety and trust, but I think this much is evident. I also take and send pictures daily and know how important good and open communications is.
About: I have always loved animals both dogs and cats. I have lots of patience with puppies and training all the way to senior dogs with limited mobility. I am skilled in understanding the personality of dogs and cats and how to best adapt my energy to make sure they are attuned to in a soft, gentle way. I am fit and in shape for those puppy and energetic dogs that need a longer walk as well. Would be honored to take care of your fur babies while you are away. I have had dogs for over 30+years :) Available to help your pet 7 days of the week! For House Sitting - I can be there the full amount of time as I work remote making sure I can take your fur baby out at all intervals throughout the day! I offer sweet energy to meet and greet your pet so that it feels comfortable going as slow as needed for your pet to feel comfortable. I am tuned in to your pets needs and respond with love and affection.
“Jesse is great with our 3 dogs. We have an older dog who he's even had to carry up and down stairs. He's had great communication with us and left the house clean and the dogs are very happy!”
“Sketcher did great housesitting our anxious 2 yr old dog and 11 yr old indoor cat. She was good at communicating promptly during booking and during the stay. We came home to happy pets and everything was as expected.”

“It’s wonderful to go away and not worry about the members of your furry family ! Ginger, is mature, intelligent and I think would know what to do in any emergency. Do not hesitate to call upon her.”

About: Growing up I’ve always owned dogs and I love taking care of my own dog who has high needs. I love walking dogs and always enjoy seeing new dogs roaming about. I have a very open schedule, and that is why I was ready to start with Rover to kind of control my own scheduling. My week is open for plenty of dog walks or dropping visits for pets. I am excited to start working with you. I have one dog and two cats. I walk my dog at least five times a day. She is a terrier and needs extra exercise. I have two cats who are indoor. I change their litter box weekly and scoop it daily. Keeping a good hygiene for cats is extremely important for your home so I value that very much. My pets names are Oreo for my dog Millie and pumpkin on my cats.
“Kelly did an amazing job watching my pup while we were out of town. It was a last minute request and she was so accommodating. Our pup loved her too and she even administered her medication like a champ. Will definitely use again!”

“Yolanda did an excellent job keeping Evan at the very last moment’s notice. I felt assured and comfortable with her and knew she would take great care of my fur baby. She was wonderful and I will definitely use her services again.”

“We are so happy to have found Diane! We were very comfortable trusting her with our doggies care. She not only took great care of our dogs but also our place. We appreciate the frequent updates and pictures she sent. We highly recommend Diane”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Highlands walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Highlands maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Highlands choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Highlands. On Rover:
- 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 94% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
