“Emma was so great! She always responded quickly to messages, and was very accommodating to our needs - she came over in advance so we could meet her and introduce her to our dog, and she dealt with some unconventional dog hand-offs while we were away. She also left the house just as it was. We will definitely be reaching out to her for dog-sitting needs in the future. Thank you, Emma!”

“Justine did a great job with my crazy crew and provided timely updates with super fast communication. I also appreciated her being available on relatively short notice. Would definitely reach out to her again for future needs!”

“Danielle was amazing! She watched my 3 month old pup and 1 year old shepherd/chow mix and they both loved her! She sent many updates about how they were doing! I will definitely be booking her again!”
“Alina is amazing! She is attentive and provides frequent updates that are detailed. I highly recommend using her. One of my dogs had a vomit issue and she handled it so well! Alina is also very sweet. I will definitely be contacting her again for when I’m traveling.”

“Sara was a lifesaver! She helped house sit our two greyhounds and a guinea pig on short notice, salvaging a family vacation. She was responsive while we were away and when we got home, everything was as we left it and it was clear the dogs (and pig) had been exceptionally well cared for. We'll definitely be requesting her services in the future.”

About: I have taken care of dogs, cats, bearded dragons and snakes for family, friends, and strangers over several years. “Owen was fantastic. Not only was he responsive but the dogs were well taken care of. They were walked, fed, played with, and given a lot of love. While he was watching the pups he also kept the house clean. I got daily pictures ands updates which helped to put my mind at ease about my pups while I was on vacation. I will use Owen again”

About: "Caring for pets has been a part of my life ever since I got my first dog as a child. Over the years, I’ve loved every moment. whether it's walking, playing, grooming, or feeding. I treat every pet like family, and I’m dedicated to making sure they feel safe, happy, and loved while in my care." Currently im only working part time 2 days a week at 5 below usually from around 2 or 4 to closing, so I will have loads of time to come play with or walk your pets! I'll leash them when we walk, and if we have to go somewhere they'll remain on the leash, and I'll keep an eye on them if they are in your yard
“Jamie is a wonderful pet sitter. He takes great care of our pets and home when on vacation. He followed all of our pups demanding instructions and gave updates during our trip. Highly recommend him for anyone looking.”

About: I have worked alongside my mom who has been with Rover for 8 years! I took care of my own dog in my college dorm for a year as well! I’m currently a student at AACC and I’m working on weekend at a restaurant! Most days, I work on schoolwork and hangout with my own dogs at home! I try to take my dog out every hour to two hours because she loves being outside! I try to give her fresh water every few hours and she is feed twice a day! We also go on walks when it’s nice out!
“Ella was able to housesit for several days over Christmas, which we were extremely grateful for as family from different locations were coming together in one location. The initial meet-and-greet went very well and I felt confident the sitting would go well as Luna was immediately very relaxed (and comfortable) with Ella. Ella was responsive to the dog sitting (and house) instructions we provided and communicated updates on how Luna was adjusting (including pictures) while we were away. Few days had to be tough because of the deep cold snap that hit the DC area on Xmas eve and day making it hard to get out for dog walks. That said, we came home to a relaxed dog. We definitely would consider having Ella housesit Luna again in the future.”

About: Ive been around, and taken care of pets for my family/other friends and family for as long as I can remember. I have been trusted with the tasks of walking, grooming, medicating, and making sure the well being of the pet is at its fullest, and if it’s not, I am keen to figure out the problem. I am also very good with pets under the age of 1, as I have assisted in raising 3 litters of dogs of my own. I currently work as a freelance musician, so I have plenty of time to take care of your pets! My availability is very flexible, as the shows I play are in town, and only take up a small part of the day or night, so I will not be away from your pet very long, if at all! I have 5 dogs of my own, who are on a feeding/bathroom schedule that we follow daily. When I take them outside I am with them to make sure they do all they need to do so there are no accidents in the house. When taking care of your pet I will always cater to their need/routine; give them as much space, and or as much love as they need!

About: I've taken care of both dogs and cats, including those with medication needs and I've managed to make connections with pets that had apparently never warmed up to sitters. My internal alarm clock has me awake before 7 on most mornings and I immediately feed my own cats Flower and Eevee and my dog Sprocket. After this my day is mostly open to fulfill your pets needs! I I always try to make the pet feel comfortable with me just existing in their space before care begins, I've found that the pets seeing me with their owner is a good way to start off establishing trust. I do my best to adjust myself and my activities to the pet's routine and their needs so that my presence is a minimal disruption.
“Keeara was honestly so great and gave me all the reassurance I needed for my two pups. It’s always hard for me to leave my dogs in the care of somebody else because I’m so particular and very paranoid about it overall but I definitely trust her and wouldn’t hesitate to let her watch my dogs again which says a lot. Her communication was a 10/10 even when an emergency in her own family came up she still prioritized the care of my dogs as well. Thank you so much again!! So grateful for her care.”

About: I'm a life-long dog owner and have had cats much of my life. Years of volunteering at animal shelters has given me real, hands-on confidence with all kinds of animals and temperaments, including the reactive and anxious ones who need a calm, patient hand. I also have advanced training for working with dogs with behavior challenges, training protocols, dog and cat body language, and I am currently in the process of getting certified in pet first aid and CPR. I'm comfortable administering medication, managing mobility limitations, special needs, and the kind of quirks that make pet parents nervous to leave instructions for a new sitter. No matter the animal, the basics stay the same: sticking to their routine, and sending updates and check-ins so you're never wondering how things are going. Your pet is in calm, capable hands. I work from home and am available for walks and drop-ins in the mornings and evenings, and midday as my schedule allows. I’m also available for house sitting. Have needs outside of this? Let’s talk! If the travel distance exceeds my daily service range, additional fees may apply. For walks and drop-ins, I keep things low-key: familiar environment, familiar routine, minimal disruption to their day. For house sitting, I stay in your home and keep your pet's routine exactly as you left it. I treat your space with the same care I'd want someone to treat mine. Got a weird routine, like needing to fake a 5-star meal, or finding the perfect blade of grass for a potty break? Tell me about it, I'll make it happen.
About: I have worked with animals professionally for 15 years straight but have had pets of my own my entire life. I have a soft spot for senior pets, and can administer medications and provide light grooming at an additional cost. I am comfortable working with dogs, and cats. I am a full-time employee but have the ability to take my pet sits with me to work. I keep my sits local so I can utilize my lunch-breaks to check on pets. I have pets of my own that I care for daily. I prefer to keep dogs crated if staying in my home while I'm out of the house to ensure their safety as well as my own pets safety. I do require a rabies vaccine and flea/tick/heartworm to be given if an animal is to stay in my home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Hickory Point walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Hickory Point maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hickory Point choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
