“Samantha was amazing! She took such great care of all our pets. Our dog was so relaxed when we got home. This was also a last minute booking since our sitter bailed on us and she really saved the day. She sent lots of updates and pics too so we could see all our babies being well care for. We’ll absolutely use her service in the future.”

About: Hello, I'm Katie! I helped my mom run a cat rescue for over 8 years (that includes waking up every 2 hours to bottle feed, giving medication, handling moody kitties, cleaning up constant messes, etc). Since then, I've been trusted to pet sit for friends, coworkers, and family members. I have more experience house sitting with cats than dogs, but I love all pets equally and would be so happy to meet them! I offer overnight stays/house sitting, drop-ins, and dog walking. I am currently pet sitting full time. I am available on weekdays and weekends however early or late as needed, and for as many drop-ins as needed. My schedule is very flexible! The care and safety of your pet is the most important thing to me. I make sure to keep human food out of reach along with plastic bags, cords, or other potentially harmful items. I always try to keep pets entertained, happy, and out of trouble. I am a very clean person and will never leave a mess behind, I can assure your home will be well looked after. I can provide photo or text updates as often as needed!
“This was the first time I have used Rover and had Eli as a sitter. He made us feel comfortable with having him care for our pets from the beginning. The night before we left our 12 year old shitzu had a small infection and was giving 3 meds. Eli took care of everything as prescribed and gave us several updates, easing our mind and allowing us to enjoy our trip knowing everything was fine.”
“Juliana was beyond great. She took care of my dog as if it were one of her own. My flight got canceled, and she happily took care of the dog for two more days. I don't know what I would have done without her help. I highly recommend her to others.”

“Allie was very attentive and communicated every time she stopped by the house to let the dogs out. She sent pictures every time as well as a couple videos. The dogs loved her company and they were well cared for!”

“Hi Rob, is a good person and a lifesaver. He came over and Housesat for me in an emergency with only 3hrs notice when I had a last minute cancellation. I would recommend him again to watch my pets anytime”

“Andrew is a godsend. We've had him to sit for our Rhodesian ridgeback and our Staffy twice, for 4 days and 10 days, respectively, and we have both times come back to 2 happy and healthy dogs, who looked at us like we had only been gone a short while. They had neither gained stress weight nor become too skinny, and we could tell Andrew had been diligent taking them out frequently. He had mixed in their favorite food toppers and given them their medicine as we asked. He is a kind person, and you can tell he thinks deeply about things, and people's and pets' feelings. He even swept and tidied up, got our mail from our mailbox, and had our packages all neatly inside. He is as the proverb says, a good traveler who leaves no mark, leaving our house exactly as, if not better than, he found it. I can't say enough about the peace of mind Andrew has given us, especially the second time, since we already knew we could trust him. We were able to go to Disney World and have a truly magical time because we knew he was caring for our dogs and our house as we would have done.”

“Sabrina was amazing with my pups. Sabrina was very professional. Sabrina was quick to respond to messages and work with us on such short notice. If your looking for the perfect sitter, look no further than Sabrina.”

“She was very responsive and easy to work with. Kept us updated on any issues or events that we needed to know about, and with the extra step to bring in our mail while we were gone. Our pups were greatly cared for, and we would absolutely book her again”

“David did a wonderful job taking care of our cat and dog. He sent pictures daily, and was attentive to our cat who his shy around new people. Would definietly recommend, and we have already rebooked !”

About: What sets me apart is I grew up with lots of pets so I know how to take care of them. At one point, my dog had puppies so I learned how to take care of puppies. And then had another point my cat had kittens so I also learned how to take care of kittens which that is both very cool. When I was we had a blind and deaf dog so we all had to learn how to help him. Pet care fits into my daily routine by taking my dog out into the backyard first thing into the morning. Then I go outside as well to enjoy the sun and to play with him. I also have to make sure that the dogs and the cats are both fed throughout the day. I would make sure that the pet have what is needed such as food , water, and that the pet has gone outside many times. I would also make sure if the pet and I go outside that the pet isn’t dragging muddy paw prints through out the home.
About: Hi! I’m a dogaholic. I have experience taking care of labs, great danes, staffordshire terriers, and my personal favorite: GOLDEN RETRIEVERS! My walks give dogs the structure and clarity they need to live better lives and lead to a better relationship between dog and owner. Let’s talk! I work at Chipotle in Portage but typically that doesn’t interfere with dog walking and visits. Contact me today for specifics and we can get you booked asap! Safety is my #1 priority. I am pet CPR certified, which I think all pet owners should consider getting (it’s a $25 course y’all!). Especially those with larger breeds, which are more susceptible to heart attacks. Know the signs of heart attacks, dehydration, and heat exhaustion. Finally, I ask all my new dog-owners if there is any medical history, allergies, disabilities, or medication I need to be aware of before caring for that animal.
“Emily was great with Daisy she was patient with her and gave me updates. My ole gal has her own schedule and Emily was great to understand it. Will definitely be calling her back if we need a sitter!”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Gary walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Gary maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Gary choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Gary. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
