Megan did an excellent job of keeping me informed every morning about Prada. She provided me with specific details that I was concerned about and even went above and beyond to check on things that didn’t directly involve my dog. I received daily pictures, and if she had any questions, she didn’t hesitate to ask. I will definitely be using her services in the future.

Ruxin is a 13 year old weimerener with loving energy. His disposition matched Natalie’s personality and there were no hesitations from either of them; they bonded immediately. Natalie is a natural. She is reliable, competent and confident. Your pet is in good hands with her. I cannot speak highly enough of Natalie’s communication and ongoing commitment to keep our loved one safe, happy and healthy while we were away. This was the peace of mind that made the trip so relaxing. Natalie can be trusted without doubt or hesitation. She is thorough and seeks clarification if she is unsure of something pertaining to the uniqueness of your pet-this is the assurance that I admire and respect most in her ability to provide exceptional care. I know that Ruxin enjoyed his stay-cation from us as much as we enjoyed our time away visiting family. This was evident through the photos that she shared throughout. In addition to the great care that she provided to Ruxin, Natalie took outstanding care of our home. Upon returning from our trip, we were very pleased to find our house spotless! Thank you Natalie for your ongoing dedication to the pets and their homes that you care for. Ruxin sends his ❤️

Salem was an amazing choice! It was my first time having someone stay in the house to care for my pets. But he put me completely at ease. Took such good care of the babies. We have pretty specific care instructions, and he followed them to a T. He spent so much time with them. He was very communicative. He left the house immaculate. I would 10/10 use him again. If you're looking for a trustworthy amazing sitter for your pets! Salem is your person!

About: This account is shared by two people! Alex and Hickory both have 10+ years of pet owning experience, including casual pets, breeding, and show animals. Animals are a large part of both of their lives, and one of the many things that bring them purpose in life. At 19 and 20 years old, both sitters have above average experience for their ages. Hickory is certified in dog training, animal husbandry, and herpetology. Alex is not certified, but has plenty life experiences and volunteer hours at animal shelters such as South Hills Pet Rescue. What animals can we care for? : Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, fish (both saltwater and freshwater), bearded dragons, geckos, snakes. What animals can we NOT care for? : Monitor lizards, birds, farm animals, bite risk pets, pets needing injected medication. Both sitters are working part time, and have plenty of time to care for your pets. If anything were to come up, owner and calendar will be updated. We own two dogs with PTSD, and are currently in the process of adopting a stray cat with dead tail. Our pets are fed breakfast and dinner, given oral medication, and are given ample time to play outside. Our aquatic pets are fed once daily with fasting on Sundays, and their water is tested and changed weekly.

About: While I am currently unemployed and staying at my parents home, our family dog (Havanese) of 17 years recently passed away in February 2026. Now that my mother is retiring this summer, we wish to fill the empty home, and our combined newly gained free time, with some furry friends! For in-home boarding we will be a mother-son team with pretty wide open schedules to care for our furry guests, and will provide a great big house and yard in a great pet-friendly neighborhood for them to enjoy! I can also sit at your home if that is more convenient for you and the pet. My parents dog recently passed away at the age of 17. While I was living with them I helped to raise and care for her throughout the years. I thankfully and gratefully have always had dogs to care for throughout my entire life, from as a young child all the way to just recently with the passing of our most recent dog in February 2026. Your pet will have our full attention and their health and happiness will be the priority. We don't live very busy lives and have lots of extra free time now to care for them.

About: I’m not just someone who “likes dogs”. I grew up with a Golden Retriever. From puppy energy to senior comfort, I’ve been around it all. I’ve also cared for larger, strong-willed breeds like a Rhodesian Ridgebacks and cane corsos…so I’m comfortable handling dogs of all sizes, temperaments, and personalities. Whether your dog needs structure, patience, or just someone who can match their energy, I adapt to what they need. I treat every dog like they’re my own. I pay attention to routines, behavior changes, and making sure they feel safe, calm, and genuinely cared for while you’re away. I have been a caretaker and dog sitter for a few years. Needless to say, taking care of people’s loved-ones comes second nature to me. My night shift schedule at the VA allows me to be available all day to give your pet the attentive care that he/she needs including keeping them company, letting them out for potty breaks, walks, feeds, etc. With house-sitting, I will leave your home the way you left it. I will ensure that your pets are safe, comfortable, and well-fed. I will observe your pets closely. If I notice anything “off” about your pets, you will be notified immediately so that appropriate action is taken if needed.

About: I have taken care of two large breed dogs for over a year. I brought them into my home when they were puppies, and cared for them as they grew into adult dogs. For dog walking, I am able to walk one or two dogs at one time. When walking my own dogs, sometimes I would like to go for a little run just to make sure the pups get the exercise they need. For dog sitting, I like to let the pup(s) out for plenty of bathroom breaks. I will do everything I can to ensure that your pet is well-taken care of. I will be sure to provide a good amount of playtime for your pet to make sure he or she is having a good time! I'm currently working a shift evening schedule on Thursday-Saturday, so I have plenty of time during the traditional work week to look after your pets! I have a fenced yard and would love to spend time with your dog or cat! I would love to play games with your pet, take them on walks, and will be incredibly watchful over them to make sure they don't get into trouble.

There is no rating high enough for Sarah. From pre-booking to the home visit, to watching our home and our fur babies while we were on vacation, Sarah was amazing. Her situation was unique that in addition to taking care of our adult cats, we asked her to take care of a (somewhat friendly) mama cat and her 5 week old kittens. Sarah graciously offered her time for 24/7 care. And of course, just when we thought all was going smoothly, a hornet appeared in our finished basement which is unusual. This is where mama and babies are located. Then another one appeared - VERY unusual. When the third one appeared, not so far from the kittens, Sarah sprang into action and, together, we figured out a safe solution to draw any potential bees inside the home to outside the home. Sarah was a real trooper and took care of the home and pets like they were her own. No more bees appeared and life returned to “normal”. Well, as normal as can be for a home with cats and kittens. I can vouch for Sarah and she will be our first choice for future house and pet care needs. Sarah is friendly, trustworthy, and an excellent communicator and our fur babies loved her.

FAQs for House Sitting - Elizabeth

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 1,423 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Elizabeth. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Elizabeth walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Elizabeth maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Elizabeth choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Elizabeth. On Rover:

  • 86% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 91% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
