“Kathleen did a great job taking care of our old beagle. It really gave us peace of mind to have her checking in with us to let us know how our old guy was managing.”

“Mariah has been a responsive and reliable sitter for my kitties. I can always be sure they'll be taken care of, mentally stimulated, and have a clean environment when she comes around. Thank you Mariah!”

“My husband and I used Rover for the first time and Patrick & Bahiya made our experience a great one. They were professional and great communicators. I highly recommend them.”

“I’ve had Samantha’s help the last few times I’ve went out of town and she’s fantastic! Pays attention to detail and takes great care of my babies. Makes it so I can relax a bit knowing I can count on her! Thank you!!”

“Allison did a great job caring for my cat, Babe. The day I was to leave town babe had to go to a special vet appointment where she got prescribed liquid medication. Allison handled administering that medication to her for part of the week with great care and did a great job doing it. She was very thorough in communicating with me and sending me pictures of Babe enjoying her visits. She was great.”

About: My own senior dog is a rescue who has had special needs throughout her life, and caring for her has taught me so much about patience, compassion, and really paying attention to what an animal is communicating. I’ve learned to recognize their needs and boundaries and understand that every pet has their own personality and way of communicating. I’ve also pet-sat for friends and family over the years, and one of the best compliments I hear is, “Our pet seems to really love you!” I genuinely enjoy getting to know each animal and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their people are away. I treat every pet as an individual and give them the patience, attention, and affection they need. I am available for pet sitting, drop-ins or walks around my work schedule - my shifts are between 6-8 hrs Mon-Fri, so your pet will never have to wait too long for me to get back for a walk, feeding, or play time :) Weekends are typically more open and flexible. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. Having cared for my own rescue dog with special needs for many years, I understand the importance of patience, consistency, and paying attention to an animal’s individual needs. I want every pet in my care to feel safe and comfortable. I’ll follow your instructions and routines, keep a close eye on your pet, and communicate with you so you know how things are going while you’re away.
“Kelly was a fantastic sitter for my two cats! Now, one of them is a social butterfly anyway, so it is not hard to win over one of the cats, but she was successful in befriending both knuckle-heads. She provided attentive care for every visit, and provided excellent reports. She even cleaned up after the glass from the storm door that broke due to not so good gardeners. Kelly made sure that no glass got in the house. The best!!”

“This was our first time having someone come to our home to check on our dog. He is 15 years old and we can’t board him anymore. I was very nervous but Sarah made it such a pleasant experience for us and our dog. She gave great information on how and what he was doing. She also took pictures during each visit which really kept us at ease. She took him for walks and applied frequent “spa” treatments with his favorite itchy skin ointment. I’m relieved to know that if we need to go away again, our dog and home will be in good hands! Thank you so very much Sarah!!”

About: Ive spent most of my life caring for dogs of all sizes and ages, growing up with family pets, sitting for friends and family for years, and volunteering with BARCS. Today, I’m the proud parent of my two hound “dawghters,” Willeaux and Scarlett, so high-energy breeds, strong prey drives, and active routines are second nature to me. Because one of my girls is dog-reactive, I am highly experienced in reading canine body language, spotting potential triggers early, and calmly de-escalating high-stress situations during walks. I genuinely love working with dogs at every stage of life and of any size; whether providing high-energy exercise for active pups or offering the gentle, patient attention and mobility support that senior dogs need. Additionally, managing daily medication and food allergies for my own dogs has made me extremely diligent about administering medicine on time and strictly monitoring specialty diets. Whether your pet needs high-energy exercise, reactive dog handling, attentive senior care, or precise medical adherence, you can trust they will receive the exact same level of dedicated care I give my own! My schedule offers great flexibility for early morning and evening care! Monday through Friday, I’m available early in the morning before 7:00 AM and again in the afternoon and evening after 3:00 PM; making me a great fit for early morning walks, dinner feedings, or evening drop-in visits. On weekends (Saturday and Sunday), I have full, open availability all day for walks, drop-ins, and extended sitting. Safety, trust, and structured care are my top priorities for every pet I watch. As a hound parent, I am well-accustomed to boisterous personalities and dogs constantly inventing new, creative ways to test boundaries; so practically nothing surprises me, and I’m fully equipped to handle whatever energetic antics your pet brings! I maintain a secure, dog-proofed environment, double-check all gear before stepping outside, and stay fully attentive to our surroundings on walks. To ensure your pet receives the absolute best care possible, I always prefer written or texted instructions. Having everything in writing allows me to follow your exact home routine, dietary rules, and safety preferences down to the smallest detail while keeping you updated with frequent photos and check-ins throughout the stay.

About: As a dog owner myself, I understand that every dog has their own personality, routine, and little quirks that make them special. I have two dogs of my own—Tucker, my Goldendoodle, and Oliver, my Bernedoodle—so caring for dogs is already a big part of my everyday life. Having Tucker and Oliver has given me plenty of hands-on experience with different personalities, energy levels, and needs. I’m very comfortable with medium and larger dogs, energetic pups, and multi-dog households. What sets me apart is the level of attention and patience I give each dog. I know how much trust it takes to leave your dog in someone else’s care, so I take the time to learn their normal routine, personality, walking habits, favorite activities, and any special instructions you have. I’m comfortable with dogs of different ages and energy levels, from younger dogs who need plenty of exercise and reinforcement of good walking habits to older dogs who may need a slower pace, shorter walks, and a little extra patience. I’m also comfortable handling larger dogs and understand the importance of staying alert and in control during walks. Most importantly, I’ll treat your dog the same way I’d want someone to treat Tucker and Oliver—with patience, attention, affection, and respect for their individual personality. You can also expect dependable communication, photos, and updates so you know your pup is happy and well cared for while they’re with me. I have a flexible schedule that allows me to make pet care a regular part of my daily routine. I’m available throughout the week for walks and drop-in visits, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings, and I can often accommodate weekends as well. Since I have Tucker and Oliver at home, caring for dogs is already built into my everyday schedule. I’m used to planning my day around walks, feeding times, potty breaks, and making sure they get the attention and exercise they need. I understand that pet parents don’t always have a traditional 9–5 schedule, so I’m happy to work with different routines whenever my availability allows. Whether you need regular weekly walks while you’re at work, an occasional drop-in during a long day, or someone dependable when plans come up, I’d love to become someone you and your dog can count on. When caring for pets in a client’s home, my goal is to keep their routine as normal and comfortable as possible. I’ll follow your instructions closely when it comes to feeding, walks, potty breaks, medications or special needs, playtime, and any house rules your dog is accustomed to. Safety is always a priority. On walks, I stay aware of our surroundings, keep dogs securely leashed, and pay attention to their body language and comfort level around other dogs, people, and unfamiliar situations. During drop-in visits, I make sure your pet gets more than just the basics. I’ll spend time playing with them, giving them attention and affection, refreshing water, handling meals when needed, and making sure they’re comfortable before I leave. I also understand that you’re trusting me with both your pet and your home. I’ll always treat your space with respect, make sure doors and gates are secure, and keep you updated with photos and messages so you can feel confident that everything is going well. Every dog is different, so I’m happy to adapt my care to your pet’s personality and routine. Whether they’re energetic and ready to play or happier relaxing with some company and attention, I’ll meet them where they are and make sure they feel safe and cared for.
“I have been using for a couple of times now. She is 💯 reliable and I can always count on her to giving loving far to my cat Rin. I wanted a sitter that can give lots of cuddles and love in addition to providing care ( cleaning litter, water etc). She is the person.”

Providing him with this experience by helping to care for animals and the life around you at such a young age is beautiful to me.
“Bridget is great with our dogs, she takes such good care of them! She was able to help us out on very short notice, and did a wonderful job taking care of all 4 of our dogs, and followed our instructions to the tee. Very quick to respond, and good with communicating during the check ins as well, we got lots of photos so we could see the dogs were doing well. A+ sitter, will be booking again!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Chase
If I could give Tiffany 100 stars I would. I have moved recently and was not sure if i would be able to find a sitter who would take care of babies as well as I do. I can confirm Tiffany is that person, she went above and beyond my expectations and my babies were extremely happy when I returned. As long as Tiffany is available I will continue to book her!

Sarah has been just so incredible from start to finish, I truly couldn't be happier with the level of service she provided for my fur babies. I had some last minute longer work days scheduled and was super frantic about finding help on those days so that my pups weren't left for longer than they should be, and Sarah made the entire process so smooth & helped alleviate any anxieties I had about getting care from someone other than family or friends. I truly could not recommend her enough to anyone seeking first time care for their animals.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet .
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
