About: I have had many dogs in my family in the past and currently have three. I grew up in a dog obsessed family and I enjoy spending time with all sorts of animals. I have experience administering medicine, puppy care, all sorts of cleaning, and senior care. I currently am job searching so I am available all times of the week and day! If last minute pet care is needed then I am the one to call! I have a fully fenced yard and three friendly out going dogs that are also well around cats. I also have specific areas in my home blocked off to avoid any inside accidents!

Brittney was fantastic! She communicated well, followed all instructions and requests, and most of all my cats liked her. She spent time to play with and groom them and clearly loves animals. There was even a little mess while I was away and Brittney wasn’t fazed. She informed me, made sure she knew how to handle it, and took care of everything. Would highly recommend!

Jennifer was great. My cats are shy, anxious and hide when I leave the house for a long time. Jennifer was able to get them out of their hiding places, which reduced their anxiety. The cats were relaxed when I returned.

About: I've always loved animals. I have a psych degree, and learning about positive re-enforcement and and training pets to do tricks is my favourite thing. I'm self employed so my schedule is flexible. I am also nomadic, so I'm happy to travel to a new place to care for a pet, and be somewhere new I take time to get to know each animal, their wants and needs, and most importantly, their personalities. My goal is to make any separation from their persons as easy as possible

I focus on calm, consistent handling and clear expectations, which helps dogs settle quickly. I’m attentive on walks, respectful of training cues, and comfortable supporting puppies as well as senior dogs. I follow care instructions closely, keep environments safe and structured, and pay attention to behaviour or health changes. You can expect reliable communication, thoughtful updates, and care that prioritizes your dog’s wellbeing while you’re away. Although I work full time, I have flexibility to work from home when needed, which allows me to build pet care smoothly into my daily routine. When working in the office I commute to Nanaimo, which means I can provide home care to pets from Shawnigan Lake to Nanaimo. I focus on creating a safe, calm environment for pets, both in my home and in clients’ homes. I stick to routines, follow instructions carefully, and pay close attention to safety on walks and at home. I’m respectful of clients’ spaces and keep things clean and secure. You’ll receive regular updates so you can feel confident your pet is well cared for.

Jamie is an amazing pet sitter! We had peace of mind while travelling because she sent us pictures and very thorough updates on the birds every day. We could tell that during her visits she took the time to bond with them and make sure their needs were fulfilled. Jenny and Jiraiya are pretty timid when meeting new people, but they warmed up to her so pretty quickly. Highly recommend Jamie for any pet sitting needs, she'll certainly be our first choice when we need pet-sitting services again.

About: I grew up with dogs and cats as a child. As soon as I moved out to Canada, I got my own dog. My kids grew up with all kinds of animals in the house, the animals helped make my house a home. I’ve looked after friends and family pets most of my life and occasionally got paid for it. I took semi retirement early to enjoy life more and work less. I don’t consider caring for a pet a job. I work less the 30 hrs a week so lots of time to care for your pets in your home Lots of exercise, stick to the routine already set up by the owner. Lots of patience as the animal gets to know me and plenty of cuddles along the way. I have experience with seizures and epilepsy

I contacted Dorothy months ahead about a drop-in type visit while my husband and I were to be visiting Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, from California for a family wedding. I scheduled with Dorothy to come to our travel trailer in the Living Forest Campground and RV Park for the Meet n Greet to not only meet us, but how to get in our trailer, all about the dogs and their needs. Dorthy listened to all that was needed and then contacted me by text during the scheduled evening when we were gone to let us know she’d been there and handled everything. There were three dogs to walk in two trailers and Dorothy fed each one and took them for walks to get their business done; what a lifesaver she was so that we could be gone for an extended time and all was handled. I recommend Dorothy without hesitation and will use her again if we ever come back to Nanaimo.

About: I’m lucky to have two amazing dogs in my life, Luna ( a lady of a certain age! ) she belongs to my son and when she comes to me for her “holidays” we enjoy long, leisurely walks and/or a lovely swim in the ocean! And lots of cosy, curled up on the couch time. Then there’s Molly- who is a sweet golden retriever puppy belonging to my daughter. I spent a wonderful summer with Molly in tow, at just 10 weeks old, everything was new to her and delighted her. Although our walks were short, we went often and Molly made many friends in the neighbourhood! My daughter lives in the Okanagan Valley therefore, sadly I don’t get to spend nearly enough time with “our” Molly. Having said that, I do have lots of time to spend with your precious canine! I love walking and believe I would be a great companion for your dog when you can’t be there. I will strive to walk in different areas to provide visual interest to your dog and take the utmost care of him/ her at all times. I prefer on leash walks but am more than happy to play off leash games in your back yard. If your dog requires medication, I’m quite confident with that - recently Luna needed a course of injections and I was able to do that with no problems and obviously, I can feed your dog if required. At the moment I provide 2 kitties with regular overnight care and drop in visits. One of whom is diabetic & requires daily medication. I have lots of flexibility at the moment. I can offer week day and weekend service and am happy to tailor the length/ type of walk to suit your dog. I prefer to offer one on one care to deepen my bond with your dog. I am excellent housekeeper & live “lightly” in my clients homes.

About: Hi, I’m Jaimi! I bring several years of hands-on experience in both clinical and behavioural settings. I’ve worked in veterinary hospitals for three years across Toronto and Vancouver Island, including at James Bay Veterinary Clinic, where I assisted in appointments and procedures, handled dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments, and supported overall patient care. Alongside my clinical experience, I spent four years volunteering as a dog walker with a rescue, working with dogs of varying backgrounds, energy levels, and behavioural needs. This gave me a strong foundation in reading body language, supporting nervous or reactive dogs, and handling a wide range of temperaments safely and calmly. I’ve also raised and trained my own dog, Rue, and have a strong personal interest in canine behaviour. I’ve recently been accepted into the University of Edinburgh, where I’ll be continuing my education in canine behaviour and training, with the long-term goal of becoming a certified clinical animal behaviourist. I’m based in the Cowichan Valley (near Duncan) and love getting dogs out on local trails, river walks, and quiet nature spots. My approach to care is structured, attentive, and tailored to each individual dog. I offer both one-on-one walks and small, well-matched group hikes, with a focus on calm handling, safety, and positive group dynamics. I typically start dogs one-on-one to get to know them before introducing them into a group setting if appropriate. I’m also happy to reinforce any training you’re currently working on, whether that’s leash skills, recall, or general manners — consistency is key, and I’m mindful of maintaining your dog’s routine. If you’re looking for thoughtful, reliable care with a behaviour-focused approach, I’d love to connect. Jaimi 🐾 I currently have a flexible schedule that allows me to dedicate consistent, focused time to pet care throughout the week. I typically structure my days around morning and afternoon walks/hikes, with availability for drop-in visits and additional care as needed. I aim to keep a steady and predictable routine for the dogs in my care, while still being able to accommodate different schedules when possible. Whether your dog thrives on consistency or needs a bit more flexibility, I do my best to work with their individual routine. My goal is to provide reliable, consistent care that fits naturally into your dog’s day. Safety and trust are always my top priorities. I aim to provide calm, structured, and attentive care so each pet feels secure and well-supported. In your home, I respect your space and your pet’s established routine. I carefully follow all instructions around feeding, medication, and exercise, and I pay close attention to behaviour and body language to ensure your pet is comfortable and not experiencing stress. For walks and hikes, I use safe, positive handling techniques and make decisions based on each dog’s individual needs. Dogs are kept on leash unless they are in a safe, appropriate environment and have reliable recall, with owner approval. I’m mindful of surroundings, group dynamics, and safety at all times. With my veterinary background, I’m comfortable administering medications, monitoring for any changes in health, and responding calmly in unexpected situations. I also take the time to build trust with each dog through patience and consistency, creating a safe and positive experience.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
