“Caitlin was amazing! She provided a ton of updates and pictures. My dog adored her! My dog can be a lot and she never complained about him! I felt very comfortable leaving my dog alone for the first time with her for an extended period of time.”

“Timothy was awesome with my sweet boy Dozer! He did everything as instructed including medication administration and followed his special diet. We will be booking with Timothy again in the near future. He even sent photos!”

“Jacob did a good job with our boys and they definitely didn't make it easy on him. I was impressed with his patience in dealing with our excitable puppies. I will definitely book him again. ?”

“Elaina was a great dog watcher. My dogs loved her and it was obvious they felt comfortable with her. She provided a ton of photos and updates about our animals. She even went above and beyond as my pest control had to come by the house and she was willing to coordinate with me for them! I’d definitely use her again!”

About: I have had pets my whole life, including presently having 6 cats and 2 parrots in my home. I also have extensive experience volunteering with parrots of all sizes. I have also done some pet sitting on the side for some friends and family. I am open to various frequency of visits depending on you and your pets’ needs! I work full-time. My schedule is flexible, but I typically start at 9 am and clock out at 6 pm with an hour lunch. I try to let my birds out every day, and my cats are fed twice a day on a consistent schedule. I will follow whatever directions are left for me. I am comfortable providing medications, cleaning enclosures or litter boxes, walking, brushing, and a variety of other tasks.
“Nicole did a great job. She gave me updates and informed me that she took the time to get to know my pups before entering the house. My husky can be very cautious with new people, but she knew how to handle the situation. She sent pics and was very professional.”

About: I’ve taken care of and worked with a variety of animals since I was a kid. I grew up with dogs and cats as well as farm animals. I raised horse, pigs, and goats for 4-H in my hometown. In high school, I volunteered at my local pet shelter, working with cats and dogs. I also began pet sitting in high school and loved the experiences I had getting to know clients and their amazing pets. I currently work part time and have a flexible schedule. I am a university student living in Athens over the summer. I am willing to fulfill your and your pets’ needs any way I can. If you have any specific questions just ask! I am an active individual who loves walking and playing with dogs. I have reliable transportation and respond quickly to messages. I will work with you to provide the best care and attention for your pet.

About: Caring for pets has been a lifelong passion of mine. As a teenager I took responsibility for my own cats, dog, and fish and became comfortable working with larger animals spending time with a friend's pit bull. When I pursed further education I was put in charge of raising animals for Historic Robbin's Crossing and learned about animal care and rights. Since then I have gained experience taking care of elderly pets and doing daily check in's for people in the Athens community. I am currently working a night shift position, but am happy to try and schedule to your needs. I am available seven days a week, especially Sunday, and with some heads up am always happy to come by to check in and go for walks. I am always happy to report in on how pets are doing and am comfortable in managing medication for animals. I do my best to be as accommodating as possible and meet pets where there needs are.

“Laura helped us out last minute and took such good care of our little Oliver! She even stayed some extra time when we made an error with our booking. We will definitely book her again in the future!”

About: Iv had dogs for the last 12 years and have been pet sitting for 5. I have experience with special needs dogs, dogs between 6-75 pounds, and puppy’s. I also have completed a 3 week dog intensive course on their behavior and training. Im currently off for the summer so I have lots of availability. I take courses online so I can stay with your pets for most of the day. I have taken a course on dog behavior and training so I’ll always know how to read you dogs body language. I don’t try and force them to like me. I follow all directions given to me.
“Shelby was awesome for our dog Dewey. She kept us constantly informed and asked questions whenever she was concerned about him or needed clarification. We'll definitely be using her again and would recommend her to a friend!”
“Schuyler was an absolute life-saver. The first day of our vacation my mother fell and broke her hip and I was extremely stressed and spent my entire vacation in a hospital in Charleston, SC. Schuyler continued to check on me daily and sent pictures and updates about Crosby and Murphy. She managed my house, checked my mail, and made sure everything was running smoothly at home so I could focus on my mother and her care. When I got home, the house was perfect and the pups were healthy and happy. I cannot recommend Schuyler enough. She was absolutely awesome!!! Jean Scott”

About: I grew up on a farm in Appalachia, where I tended to sheep, chickens, rabbits, ducks, cats, and dogs. I’ve also pet-sat for neighbors’ cats, dogs, and horses; last summer I travelled throughout Ohio petsitting for various families. I’ve also pet-sat for a handful of alumna from Wellesley College, my alma mater — if you’d like references, I can absolutely provide them! I’m a grad student and adjunct professor with a flexible schedule; I’m free most afternoons/evenings and am happy to tailor my schedule to best suit the needs of my clients. I make sure to be attentive to all my clients’ cats/dogs and carefully read over all feeding + care instructions as soon as I receive them. I’m communicative with my clients, and intentional about ensuring their pets remain happy and healthy. I keep my clients’ home clean and in good order, and I make sure to spend lots of quality time with their pet(s) so he/she/they don’t become lonely! 🐾
“Moki was well and lovingly cared for in my home. Maryrose kept me updated daily with pictures of their daily trail runs and walks. Maryrose’s has a special connection with animals that put Moki at ease right away. I will continue the trail runs as Moki is more energized and feeling like a pup again! I would highly recommend her.”

About: Student Affairs professional for OHIO and love all furry animals. I had an amazing Norwegian Elkhound Mix and 2 cats. Now I have 9 month lab mix and 1 cat. Both very friendly and good with everyone. I'm very patient, optimistic, and kind. I have experience with pups & senior dogs. I'm comfortable administering medication, including injections and promise to love your pet unconditionally while they are in my care. Depending on the needs of your pets they'll enjoy at least one walk a day, potentially a hike, and get plenty of attention throughout their stay with me. Before rescuing my current dog, I trained two Great Pyrenees from 6 months to 3 years for a friend. I'm comfortable with all dogs and cats and hope I can help provide care for you soon! During the school year I work from home 2 days a weeks and in the summer 3 days! This gives me plenty of flexibility to check on your pets as needed. Additionally, I have the flexibility to check during my lunch break if needed when I'm in the office. I have a fenced in backyard and will gate off sections of our home until we know the dog is comfortable in our home and with our dog & cat. We block off the stairs to keep them on the ground floor with us.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Athens
Jacob was great at keeping us updated with pictures of our fur babies. He was very communicative and we were thrilled to find him through Rover when our usual house sitters were unavailable. Jacob even earned the trust of one of our more antisocial cats! Highly recommend!
Stefania was great. She watched Theo for a week. We live out in the country and it was when there was a really, really bad snowstorm and she was able to make it work. She even came back an extra time on the last day because I was running later than I thought I was going to.

Jane did an amazing job watching our three pets! During the meet and greet, she was so knowledgeable and asked great questions. While she was watching our pets, we got a bunch of positive updates and could tell that she definitely took the time to get to know our fur babies. We felt confident and assured that she would do a great job, and she surpassed our expectations. She also took great care of our home. We definitely recommend her!

Moki was well and lovingly cared for in my home. Maryrose kept me updated daily with pictures of their daily trail runs and walks. Maryrose’s has a special connection with animals that put Moki at ease right away. I will continue the trail runs as Moki is more energized and feeling like a pup again! I would highly recommend her.

The average cost for House Sitting in Athens on Rover is $43.29 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Athens walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Athens maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Athens choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
