“Emily was great! She watched my lab for 6 days while I was out of town and she sent plenty of fun updates and photos during the stay. I appreciate that she did a meet and greet before to make sure it would be a good fit.”

“Samantha and her family were incredibly kind, helpful, and flexible with our move to Roanoke. Our cats and dog seemed to do great with them for a few days. We will definitely have them stay with her next time we need help!”

“We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Shawn! We left our two Yorkies, Brooklyn and Charlie, in her care, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. From the beginning, Shawn made us feel completely comfortable and confident that they were in great hands. She was incredibly caring, attentive, dependable, and treated Brooklyn and Charlie as if they were her own. It gave us tremendous peace of mind knowing they were with someone who genuinely cared about them and made sure they were happy, comfortable, and well looked after while we were away. Leaving your dogs with someone else can always be a little stressful, but Shawn made the entire experience easy and worry-free. We came home to two happy Yorkies, which says everything! We would absolutely trust Shawn with Brooklyn and Charlie again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, compassionate, and exceptional pet sitter. She truly went above and beyond, and we feel very fortunate to have found her. Five stars without question!”

“Wow! I hit the jackpot of pet sitters when I found Theresa! Not only did she agree to keep both my small dog and cat, she even kept them together during their stay! It was evident from the daily texts and pictures that she sent that she truly enjoyed them both. Theresa was attentive to their needs and made sure they had the best boarding experience ever! We will definitely be booking her for all our future boarding needs!”

“Kevin is very knowledgeable about dogs and was very patient with my American bulldog “Goose”. It was his first time being away from home and was scared and was being aggressive. Kevin worked with him and made him feel comfortable and part of the family. I feel 1000% comfortable leaving my dog in his care.”

“Eve was fantastic with my nervous dog Howard and took great care of him and sent regular pics and updates to let me know he was doing well, and even took him for a few walks with her dogs. Her communication was great and her own dogs and cat were sweet and accepting of Howard too. Eve is very friendly and made me feel comfortable that Howard was safe with her. I'll recommend her and will use her services again myself!”

“Ashley and her family were great! My pup has endless energy and I was concerned about leaving her for an extended stay. They are very gentle and sweet with all their guests, both human and canine! Their pup Delilah gets along with pretty much any dog, it would appear. I'll definitely be recommending them and using their services when the time comes again.”

“Sidney did an incredible job with my German Shepherd! She sent pictures and checked in regularly to put me at ease. If you’re in Roanoke, Sidney as your pet sitter is the best choice you can make!!”

“She is someone who is incredibly devoted to animals; her dedication and love are boundless. I had the absolute best experience knowing that Mia was staying in a home filled with plenty of attention, patience, and love. Karlie is always in constant communication, too. She has dogs of her own, and they truly made Mia's stay much more fun, as Mia is super friendly. Mia returned home ready to sleep and rest after days filled with fun and endless running around—in fact, she didn't even want to leave, given how wonderfully she had been treated at Karlie's house!”

“Meeting Gretchen I knew right away she was willing and committed to taking care of our Daisy Lucille as we are!!! Daisy is 9 years old and has medications to take for CCL injuries that require her to be on a leash for potty breaks and being outside and can take short walks. She kept us informed of their days and shared everything Daisy did in her care. We are so lucky to have her help and so convenient where we live.”

“They were able to take my Dog and Cat on short notice and took good care of both. A little out of the way but lots of land in wooded area for you dog to explore.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Alpine Hills home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Alpine Hills.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Alpine Hills sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
